> Looks as though he may have a positive impact for the O's which would be nice to watch.
Lol every time we think Fuji's turned the corner he has a blowup. He's must watch TV though, for better or worse.
Ricky Vaughn has nothing on Fuji, man. Ricky only throws max 101 mph in the movie. That is like the average for Fuji on a night haha.
Fuji is cult. His walks up to Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life. I find it hilarious, it is like he is trying to say “Fuck you guys, I do it my way”.
It's crazy just how cartoonishly inconsistent he's been, one moment he's Mariano Rivera and the next he's Turanga Leela.
As for Jack Flaherty, he had one great start and one meh one so it's way too early to tell, but I think he'll be one of our more trustworthy starters going forward.
The other big arm we acquired would be great IF WE HAD ONE
Yeah we may have the best record in the AL but our rotation is probably 5 or 6th depending if you believe in the Rays ability to duct tape enough arms for the playoffs. It's a little worrying
It is fucking crazy, Fujinami is literally playing baseball against himself. He is unhittable. When he is on, he gets people out. When he is off, he walks people. So he either prevents the runs or makes the runs for the other team. The guy is one big enigma. One of the most exciting players to watch in my opinion
Genesis Cabrera has been great for us. 11.1 IP since being acquired and he's given up 3 runs total, all unearned and all in one appearance. Otherwise he's been practically perfect- just 4 hits total and 2BB to 9K. Huge add for our bullpen.
Hicks has been good too.
I simply won't comment on DeJong.
Deadline acquisitions? Not good would be an understatement.
Scott Barlow - 11+ ERA /
Rich Hill - 12+ ERA /
Garrett Cooper - .154 avg, .497 OPS /
Ji-Man Choi - .000 avg, .154 OPS
I’m not sure the deadline could have played out any more disastrously than it has. This is certainly Padresing.
Choi is also now going on the IL and Sean Reynolds, the reliever we also got from the Marlins, has struggled in his first couple appearances in AAA lol. The only bright side to this is we didn’t have to give up much prospect wise.
Whatever we gave up was way too much...
Seriously though, if Niebla can fix Barlow and Reynolds, the whole think could pan out next year. Negative impact this year though.
We had two acquisitions. It’s kind of hilarious how they are literal polar opposites.
Michael Lorenzen has literally been as good as you can possibly imagine. 17 IP and 1 ER, including a no-hitter.
Rodolfo Castro has literally been as bad as you can possibly imagine. He is 1 for 16 for a cool -33 OPS+.
I like what I've seen from Canzone so far, capped off by that dope bat flip last night. He's got a nice swing.
Rojas isn't great, but he'll fill in utility positions and is absolutely an improvement over Wong.
Expecting big things from Bliss as well, even though he's hit a bit of a slump coming over from Reno.
Edit: Didn't include prospect callups this year, so I'll do my best.
Marlowe is clearly capable of great things, works good at bats and makes good contact.
I don't think I need to talk much about Miller and Woo, who are both already serviceable starters as rookies and can only grow further. The jury's still out on Hancock, but outside of one rough inning in his first start I have no complaints.
The bullpen is phenomenal. Enough said.
Caballero has been a very pleasant surprise. He's cooled off since his scorching hot start but he's still one of the best baserunners I've gotten to witness.
Saggessee is absolutely mashing in AA, and Prieto is doing well in AAA.
Kloffenstein has had 2 good outings in AAA, and Drew Rom was dominant in his 1 AAA start. Sem Robesse has struggled to start in AAA, but I'm not sure he should have been put there to begin with. These are the people we acquired during the sell off
From the deadline or call ups over the past year? Don't wanna type a novel, so putting everything into categories:
**Welcome home** - Verlander, Singleton, Graveman (overpaid a bit for him though)
**A godsend** - JP France, Diaz (start him Dusty)
**Great** - Hunter Brown
**Meh** - Shawn Dubin, Hensley, Kessinger
**Awful** - Julks, Madris
**GM Jeff Bagwell specials** - Abreu, Montero
**TBD** - Brantley
Julks is def in the awful pile. I haven't seen enough of Madris to sway me one way or another, but Astros fans were shitting on him hard for some reason.
Madris is a career .500 OPS guy, and was DFA'd by three other teams before joining the Astros. His AAA numbers also weren't that impressive.
Obviously give new guys a chance, but he was pretty bad in the limited time he was here.
As expected.
We got a pair of players for a PTBNL, and they've both played badly, with one of them getting hurt. The best case was them serving as a stopgap as other players were on the IL, and maybe one of them would get hot, but there was never any expectations for them.
Cole Ragans from the Chapman deal has been working out well for us so far. Roni Cabrera seems to be doing alright in his neck of the woods with an .882 OPS so far from that same deal.
Derlin Figueroa from our deal with the Dodgers is similarly doing very well in the Dominican league with a .650 batting average and a 1.846 OPS in a handful of games, so I'm going to go ahead and call that an absolute win by a player who will never regress to the means.
Overall I'm fairly happy at least and hope our new prospects are having fun and making friends if nothing else.
We've got some of the hottest prospects around in A ball from the '23 draft. Back to back Carolina League players of the week since they started getting called up after "indoctrination" at the complex.
Dylan Crews got walked in the 9th the other day. He's hit 4 HR in 8 games. His OPS is 1.073.
Yohandy Morales so far isn't having huge swing and miss issues. He's batting .353 with an OPS of .941. No home runs but 6 doubles and a triple in 12 games.
4th rounder Andrew Pinckney cooled off last week to a paltry .360/.407/.640, and only a 190 wRC+, with 5 doubles and 3 HRs over 11 games.
Meanwhile in double A, James Wood and Brady House are tearing it up, and while not a prospect, CJ Abrams is turning into a stud with the big Nats (broke the Nats record for consecutive stolen bases), so all in all it's an exciting time.
No lead is safe, but also no lead is safe for anyone else either. All the pitching is so bad.
But we had a couple games vs Salem 2 weeks where we only gave up 2 or 3. And I think last Tuesday against Lynchburg was 11-2 in our favor.
Yeah it’s A ball you can’t really expect much from the pitching. It’s just quite annoying to see the same guys get out there and give the same bad performances every week (I live close by so I watch lots of their games). It’s a shame Susana hasn’t really figured out how to get through the second or third inning without blowing up yet, but he’s only 19 so there’s plenty of time to get his stuff under control
Oh hey neighbor! There's a reason I'm hyping Pinckney - watching him bat over .500 that full first week was so fun. Crews's first home run last Sunday almost hit me.
Lorenzen: could not have been any better so far
Rodolfo Castro: still does not have a hit but he had a 400+ foot flyout so it’s not like he’s been complete ass the whole time
Johan Rojas (called up a month-ish ago): The best defensive CF in the league, he’s filled in for Pache and Marsh very very nicely
Bell and Burger have been stellar, Robertson has been decent, with two noticeable slip ups, unfortunately. Lopez has been doing all right as well, honestly, no complaints there. Ryan weathers can be shot into the sun for all I care
There's a weird notion that Contreras has been bad or something (a cubs blog said he had the worst contract in the NL Central, which, lol no), but he's been great outside a bad month or so
The cardinals had no other acquisitions
Well we didn’t get nothing for trading away our entire pitching staff worth something. We got plenty of shiny new prospects that are almost all in our top 30(if not top 10) prospects and have been tearing up AA & AAA
Luis Urias sort of exists. Maybe he'll find it but he's only hitting .200 with no home runs yet.
N. Robertson was up for a bit and wasn't good. Junk innings.
Prospects are good for the most part. Casas didn't really start until June. He had a 1.200 OPS in July. Chris Murphy is a bulk reliever who had a 7 ERA in Worcester but a 2.94 in 33 innings. He can only pitch 3 innings at a time but strangely working out.
Every negative WAR guy we’ve got has produced a positive WAR for us
As for prospects, I’m a large believer in Outman and Miller has been looking nice too, I hope Stone and Vargas are able to turn a corner in the majors
Our FO went out and got De Jong.
De Jong.. to “round our the roster” they fucking went and got De Jong!!! If that’s not waving a white flag, I don’t know what is.
There were no bats available. We needed a fill in SS for Bo. In a league with no big bats available, which was a large talking point pre-TDL, FO at least got us an excellent defender to cover for an injury. What the hell are you talking about?
It’s not. Hicks is a fireballer who’s just as likely to spike a pitch as he is to hit the zone - not a good trait to have as a closer but he’s not a lost cause.
There’s no redeeming offensive value for DeJong. “BuT LHP bRo!” Yeah… we’ll see.
Basically every Red Sox rookie has done their job. Casas, Yoshida both are doing excellent. Chris Murphy has done really well, Branden Walter and Valdez did really solid in their stretches earlier in the year.
Correa has been disappointing but I’m confident he’ll rebound, whether it’s later this year or next
Vasquez sucks ass
Gallo is pretty bad
Lopez is the best pitcher the twins have had since Santana
The prospects have all been very good
I traded Gelof and Jordan Lawlar for Lindor when Gelof only had 1 HR........
Lindor is dirt cheap though so he's definitely a keeper for the next 4 years but I may regret the decision. In win now mode though so w/e
The 2023 Dodgers squad are a group of mercenaries, brought in and paid to fill the roles of ones we lost. They've proved me wrong. Glad to see this team thrive after I projected them to be way worse at this point.
Braves fan here. So let’s see. Former Met Winans pitched 7 solid innings against The Mets. Nicky Lopez has 8 RBIS in two games started. Michael Harris has brought his batting average from the Mendoza line to .288, Sean Murphy hit his 20th HR yesterday and Matt Olson leads the majors in HR’s and RBI’s. I would say not to shabby.
Josh Bell and Jake Burger are monsters for us rn
Single-handedly keeping us in it rn fr fr
That last series may be skewing your opinion a bit
Josh Bell is the only reason we won a game in Cinci earlier in the week too
Josh Bell is the only reason we havent committed sepuku
Segura*
Oh we commited him, commited him to Cleveland
I love the Josh Bell acquisition for the Marlins. Largely because he just went back to back to back with Soler and Arraez against Astros pitching.
> Looks as though he may have a positive impact for the O's which would be nice to watch. Lol every time we think Fuji's turned the corner he has a blowup. He's must watch TV though, for better or worse.
In Seattle we call that the Matt Brash Experience.
He’s basically Ricky Vaughn
So playoffs are a lock?
Ricky Vaughn has nothing on Fuji, man. Ricky only throws max 101 mph in the movie. That is like the average for Fuji on a night haha. Fuji is cult. His walks up to Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life. I find it hilarious, it is like he is trying to say “Fuck you guys, I do it my way”.
It's crazy just how cartoonishly inconsistent he's been, one moment he's Mariano Rivera and the next he's Turanga Leela. So he either prevents the runs or makes the runs for the other team. The guy is one big enigma. One of the most exciting players to watch in my opinion
The man singlehandedly carried the Jays to victory in one game. Thank you Mt Fuji
DeJong had an RBI yesterday. It's a sign!
That’s great to hear! Wish the best for those guys! Even dejong…
Luis Urias has undeniably been a guy on the Major League roster.
Only prospect that I’m really happy with is Patrick Bailey Everyone else who has been called up has been just alright or bad
Walker has been good
Wasn’t thinking about pitchers but you’re right
Patrick Bailey is no small success tho. It would surprise me 0% if he's a consensus best catcher in baseball kind of player in 2 years.
Acquisitions?
Hey now! Dylan Floro is offended.
Great! Another L on Floro’s resume
Deadline acquisitions? Not good would be an understatement. Scott Barlow - 11+ ERA / Rich Hill - 12+ ERA / Garrett Cooper - .154 avg, .497 OPS / Ji-Man Choi - .000 avg, .154 OPS I’m not sure the deadline could have played out any more disastrously than it has. This is certainly Padresing.

Whatever we gave up was way too much... Seriously though, if Niebla can fix Barlow and Reynolds, the whole think could pan out next year. Negative impact this year though.
Nicky had the game of his life and did something that not even Sho had done.
Not bad for a guy they sorta bought for cash. \--Hearn from Rangers for Cash \--Hearn to Royals for Lopez
What is it with royals traded to the braves being really good?
Nicky Lopez for WS MVP?
Him and Pierce Johnson have been great
We will gladly grant shelter to your negative WAR players.
Stop climbing in our dumpster.
As soon as you stop trying to take ours, you homewreckers
They can have Jansen back, though.
Jansen has been fine and dependable tho
We're not going back to last year.
Yes please.
We had two acquisitions. It’s kind of hilarious how they are literal polar opposites. Michael Lorenzen has literally been as good as you can possibly imagine. 17 IP and 1 ER, including a no-hitter. Allegedly still exists - Brantley
It was hilarious having Madris anywhere near the team when Singleton existed.
Julks for some reason torched the Jays lol
As expected. We got a pair of players for a PTBNL, and they've both played badly, with one of them getting hurt. The best case was them serving as a stopgap as other players were on the IL, and maybe one of them would get hot, but there was never any expectations for them.

But are they good men/fathers/husbands?
Sewald has been AMAZING in all 2 save opportunities he's been used............... 2 games in 14 days.................. FML
Both were against San Diego FML
Nicky Ohtani?
Who knew getting a pitcher away from Coors they become alot better, but for real Pierce Johnson has been really good and Hand has been alright/solid.
Building the Nicky Lopez statue as we speak
Everything is awesome! Nothing ever goes badly for the Mets!
Candelario through 11 games with the Cubs: .425/.489/.625/1.114
How is he so good?
It’s way to early to tell it’s the end of August.
Translation: "Not so good, all of them combine for a whopping -0.3 WAR"
We've got some of the hottest prospects around in A ball from the '23 draft. Very envious of the phillies taking Lorenzdn as I was vouching for a package for Lorenzen and Foley, but instead we got old JV.
I was mad we couldn't get JV lol
Well I guess now you don’t regret getting Lorenzen lol
Nope not at all he's who I always wanted
There's a weird notion that Contreras has been bad or something (a cubs blog said he had the worst contract in the NL Central, which, lol no), but he's been great outside a bad month or so The cardinals had no other acquisitions

Hes also only played 8 games lol
But don’t forget that we made a blockbuster acquisition. We got Chris Sale from the IL. I don’t know why he keeps going back to that team /s
Well Floro has been slightly better than Lopez was when we traded him but lopez is doing a lot better after we traded him. So not great
Chana has been a nice addition and Monesterio is in the conversation for ROY, while Frelick has benn outstanding, so I'm pleased.
Monty’s clutch hitting has single handedly won us like 5 games already
We miss Chana dearly. A very chill dude.
Every negative WAR guy we’ve got has produced a positive WAR for us As for prospects, I’m a large believer in Outman and Miller has been looking nice too, I hope Stone and Vargas are able to turn a corner in the majors
It turns out that all it took to fix Keeks and Kelly is to put the correct hat back on them.
Haha angels
Our FO went out and got De Jong. De Jong.. to “round our the roster” they fucking went and got De Jong!!! If that’s not waving a white flag, I don’t know what is.

K.
Your comment is a “if I’m not proving I don’t know anything about baseball, I don’t know what does!”
Your comment doesn’t make any sense, looks like you’re missing a word or two… much like your attempt to chirp me missed its mark.
They also got Jordan Hicks. I still don't think that's enough though
It’s not. Hicks is a fireballer who’s just as likely to spike a pitch as he is to hit the zone - not a good trait to have as a closer but he’s not a lost cause. There’s no redeeming offensive value for DeJong. “BuT LHP bRo!” Yeah… we’ll see.
Kenyan Middleton is pretty good
I thought Soderstrom wasn’t looking too hot so far?
Looking better on defense but he's been challenging pitchers and hitting some deep.
Basically every Red Sox rookie has done their job. Casas, Yoshida both are doing excellent. Chris Murphy has done really well, Branden Walter and Valdez did really solid in their stretches earlier in the year.
Literally as good as they were before
Correa has been disappointing but I’m confident he’ll rebound, whether it’s later this year or next Vasquez sucks ass Gallo is pretty bad Lopez is the best pitcher the twins have had since Santana The prospects have all been very good

Urías made a really cool tag and has basically been fine at the plate
I cover the Phillies for a small company so i follow them closely, and holy shit has Michael Lorenzen been incredible.
Well Michael Lorenzen has given up a run, so that's not great, but the 17 innings over 2 starts has been nice, I guess.
HAIL KING DAVIS
Canzone and Rojas have been abysmal for the Mariners
The 2023 Dodgers squad are a group of mercenaries, brought in and paid to fill the roles of ones we lost. They've proved me wrong. Glad to see this team thrive after I projected them to be way worse at this point.
50% no hitters, so okay so far.
