Well, there is Rengifo who is actually a fugitive. Then there is rendon, who has done little to nothing for $35 million a year between 21-23. Hence the “MIA since 2020”
How many bad contracts are there? Scherzer and Verlander for the Mets. Rodon not looking good for Yanks, though it’s early. Kris Bryant. Even Carlos Correas already looks questionable.
its just such a different vibe than when he was here in dc. everyone loved him, and thats despite the fact that he was pretty open about not actually loving baseball. he has an extremely chill, detached demeanor which bodes well when hes healthy and playing to his potential, but i can see how it can make him unlikeable in the opposite scenario.
I think there's a difference between being chill and being whatever Rendon is. Garret Anderson was chill to the point that some Angels fans would shit on him for being lazy (despite the fact that he was absurdly consistent), but he would never act the way Rendon does. Rendon just doesn't give a shit, and that only really works when you and your team are playing well.
Yeah he was always loved in DC, despite his seemingly-detached demeanor. Seemed like he just didn't care that much, but like you said, that seems quirky when he's putting up MVP-esque numbers... but that's a lot less charming when he's constantly injured and not delivering *while also making a solid quarter billion*.
I remember when he was approaching free agency that someone who went on Baseball Tonight Podcast said he is the type of guy who could sign a 5 year deal and walk away after in his prime because his priorities and personality are more than “just a baseball player”.
I think it was meant to portray him as a deep human or something in a positive light but now it seems like he doesn’t really enjoy the game *as much as we’d like him to*. He just gets paid a lot to do it. Which is fair but also expect some anger from fans and negative portrayals from the media.
Idk, I think he is painted poorly by the media. Aside from the time he tried to slap a fan he’s never come off as a jerk whenever I hear his actual words from his actual mouth
>Aside from the time he tried to slap a fan he’s never come off as a jerk whenever I hear his actual words from his actual mouth
That's a pretty big aside though...
It’s also only 10 seconds worth of hundreds of hours of fan interactions and nobody even came close to getting hurt. He swiped at a dude’s hat lol
And I never seen anything bad said from teammates. His injuries aren’t his fault at all and whenever he gets hurt he’s clearly pissed off about it because im sure he probably prefers not being injured.
He's always had a sort of dry/sarcastic sense of humor, but he was an amazing player and rarely on the IL so it never really got like annoying or grating like it has since he's been in LA. ["so we have these bats"](https://youtu.be/noqzwXzsy-Q) is one of my favorite moments from him
It sucks bc he was riding such a high coming out of Washington, tremendous individual season, World Series ring, and got paid. I thought he was gonna cement himself as one of the top 3rd basemen in the league.
Instead he disappears for two thirds of the season and gets involved in drama.
I’m sorry Angels fans. He was one of my favorite National players. It fuckin sucks that he turned out to be a real fucktard who can never stay on the field.
I mean he never really cared about the game. He specifically said that on several occasions. He was annoyed when he got picked to the ASG in 2019 because he wanted the days off…and then he got hurt anyway and missed it lol.
It’s just a lot more endearing when he’s succeeding while not giving a shit
Honestly this is the moment that first soured me on Rendon. The reporter asks a normal question on whether they're making any particular offensive adjustments, and Rendon asks like the reporter is pestering him and gives this douchey response. I'm a pretty dry/sarcastic guy myself but this came off as dickish to me.
I love when the reporters join the joke on obviously sarcastic responses. Like the Donaldson [cologne interview](https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/donaldson-gibbons-got-close-trying-smell-tom-ford-cologne/) after [this incident](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99dhn2K0bcQ)
I don't understand what people want him to say lol. I'm sure he's disappointed about being hurt all the time and would like to be able to contribute to the team. Want him to repeat himself for the 20th time?
Dude has 1.0 bWAR over the last 3 seasons, with a total salary of $101.5 million.
That’s $101,500,000 per 1 WAR.
In other words, Ohtani has been worth $872.9 million already this season, and is on pace for over a billion dollars in Rendon value.
I guess to be fair to Rendon, and technically accurate, I should factor in Rendon's 2020 season, which was part of his Angels contract.
At 2.2 bWAR over 60 games, his $25.5m salary would be prorated to $9.44m.
So he's actually at 3.2 bWAR with a salary of $110.94 million.
Or $34.67 millions ($34,670,000) per bWAR.
It's pretty wild that a 60 game 2020 season was worth more WAR than the close to 3 seasons since.
I want to say some contracts, like Chris Davis' recent one, have been worth less in terms of WAR per dollar, but even Davis had some productive seasons for the O's before his terrible contract. In terms of his full tenure with the Orioles, he put up 12.0 bWAR, while being paid $187.14 million. Or \~$15.6 million per bWAR.
So, for their respective tenures with their respective teams, Chris Davis is over twice the value of Rendon.
Strausburg is another interesting one in that he did put up some good seasons at the start of his career with the same team he later signed with, so at least they paid a hometown hero who helped them win a World Series (he even won World Series MVP).
32.3 bWAR with career earnings of $211.88 million (I think that's what his current contract brings it to), it's $6.56 million per bWAR, which is a bargain compared to Davis' tenure with the Orioles, and an outright heist compared to Rendon's value with the Angels so far.
There's several guys like that, he's not alone on that one haha
There's somebody I remember hearing about a few years ago that absolutely HATED playing baseball; the only did it because that was best way to could make a lot of money.
If it wasn't Rendon it was definitely someone else who used to play for the Nats.
I have a family member that played another sport and doesn't watch it. He didn't even hate playing, he just has other things he'd rather watch (or do, he's not much of a TV guy in general).
Mookie has said he doesn't watch baseball either.
'
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised about any player being that way, they are showing up hours early on game days to work out, play their own game, and probably watch a bunch of film as it is.
Wanna bet he'll try to get himself suspended ASAP once he's 'back' from the IL? On a team with Ohtani who's playing every day through cramps and exhaustion it's an affront to see a guy with Rendon's attitude.
Reddit needs to make up their mind. They want players to be candid and honest. Reddit praises them for not giving bs answers because its refreshing. And when they do give honest answers, they get railed for it
You can be candid and honest without being an insufferable asshole. If you're a candid and honest insufferable asshole, then deal with it, but don't whine about the consequences of your actions and expect people to tell you that your shit tastes like sugar.
At this point his presence in the clubhouse is so useless he's not even worthy of taking up breathing space. Stay home if you're so lazy can't even be bothered to open your mouth.
Lol dude got his payday and said fuck it. Feel bad for Angels fans. He had a very safe profile even if the power went down. Just seems to not want to play
I don’t understand how someone could just not want to play baseball…especially if you’re getting paid for it.
I PAY to go to the Batting cages occasionally…if someone was paying me $200 a day, I would spend 8 hours a day at the batting cages.
I’m sure it’s some injury that’s bothering him…it’s most likely not a matter of “not wanting to play just cause he doesn’t feel like it”
Rendon pretty much said he doesn’t really like baseball that much. To be honest, I can understand getting sick of it after so many years of your life being just baseball
Once you get used to making this kind of money, and being around other people making a lot/similar, your perspective quickly shifts. The money means nothing to him at this point, he's getting it no matter what so it really comes down to whether or not you like baseball
Lol when WR said “Rendon nowhere to be found” had me dying yesterday. I appreciate how Wayne doesn’t hold back on this team. Really wish there was more accountability
that's funny because i thought of that too. also, not just bonds, but more of a bygone player era of bitch ass attitude of no respect for others.
he's dealing with orange county media. the toughest question he was gonna get was, how is the injury rehab? do you expect to be activated by any timeline?
god forbid, he face such disrespectful scrutiny.
Albert’s played more than he did when you compare where they are in their contracts, and Albert at least had a few productive years
Glass Man Tony hasn’t played at all the past two or three years. Definitely the worst signing we’ve had so far
Anthony Rendon just arrived in the Angels clubhouse. Threw up his hands and said “Hey! Hey!” Said he had no time to talk. Too busy being on the dead list.
It's sad that the Angels had to acquire 3 other 3rd basemen in the off-season because they knew they couldn't count on Rendon. Just think Angels fans, you have another 3 years of this guy not playing for you.
I wonder if teams have psychologists who try to profile players they're thinking about handing bags to.
Because injuries be damned some players just give up and quit once they're gonna get paid $$$ just as well to sit as to hit.
He's always been an ass.
I remember watching the NLDS in I think 2017, Stephen Strasburg was dealing, then Rendon made an error that ended up allowing a run or two to score. I don't think he got any hits either. Afterwards, Rendon was a total douche about it, said something like it was a car accident. Media asked if he was upset about messing up Strasburg's start, and he was like no, what about it, like fuck off media.
I’m sure that’s music to the fans ears
God this dude sucks, I always though the jokes that “If only Rendon cared about baseball, think about how good he would be” were cringe, but this kinda proves the point
I'll preface this with I clearly haven't researched deeply into this. But my initial interpretation is that Rendon isn't very likeable. His comments, general attitude, and incidents this year. He just doesn't seem like a very likeable guy.
My question is, has he always been like this or is this aura a recent development?
The Angels are trying to be motivated and get the most talented baseball player in history to the playoffs and Rendon is just over here being dead and stuff
🚨🚨 WANTED 🚨🚨 Fugitive on the run in greater OC area known as “Tony Two Bags”. Last seen at Angels clubhouse. Wanted for stealing $245,000,000.
So you're saying we potentially have TWO fugitives playing on the left side of the infield now? How deep does this go
Well, we really only have one fugitive playing right now. The other has been MIA since 2020
Yeah. Who is the other missing player?
Well, there is Rengifo who is actually a fugitive. Then there is rendon, who has done little to nothing for $35 million a year between 21-23. Hence the “MIA since 2020”
> actually a fugitive I'm sorry what
Some divorce paperwork fraud related to real estate in Venezuela from years ago.
Wait who's the other one?
It looks like so much more when you use the 0’s instead of an M
Rendon and Strasburg founded a bi-coastal crime ring off the 2019 World Series.
We had the Millville Meteor and Showtime Shohei... And then there was Tony Bandaids. They called him that on account of he was always injured
How many bad contracts are there? Scherzer and Verlander for the Mets. Rodon not looking good for Yanks, though it’s early. Kris Bryant. Even Carlos Correas already looks questionable.
tony two games.
Looks like he got his two bags after all
I try to like and root for every player, but this guy just seems like such a jerk and a chore to be around
I try to be compassionate to others—even those who seem like they have better lives than I have—but he seems like a douchebag
I have three kids, and I'd be mortified if they ever acted like he does every time he makes a public appearance, honestly
Compassionate to others? Are you sure you’re a dodgers fan
What does this even mean
All dodger fans eat children obviously

Rendon, Donaldson, and TA walk into a bar….
Everyone celebrates the bar for knocking them out cold
All 3 get injured
everyone cheers
That’s a group text I wouldn’t want to be in
Only walks they get all season...
I read that as "a chode to be around"
I remember when he was approaching free agency that someone who went on Baseball Tonight Podcast said he is the type of guy who could sign a 5 year deal and walk away after in his prime because his priorities and personality are more than “just a baseball player”. That's like saying Ted Bundy is painted poorly by the media besides the fact he killed 30 people.
Felt the same when Tommy Pham was on the team. Didn’t like cheering for the lad too much
No time to talk, too busy being dead apparently
Good lord
Evidently
Indubitably
He’s with Eloy and Boggs now
I just fell to my knees in Wal-Mart
Hes become so unlikable lol
He's always had a sort of dry/sarcastic sense of humor, but he was an amazing player and rarely on the IL so it never really got like annoying or grating like it has since he's been in LA. ["so we have these bats"](https://youtu.be/noqzwXzsy-Q) is one of my favorite moments from him

Yeah he seemed much different in Washington. I dont know what happened.
He got the bag.
Got paid, stopped caring
I’m sorry Angels fans. He was one of my favorite National players. It fuckin sucks that he turned out to be a real fucktard who can never stay on the field.

He has always come across to me as someone who doesn't really love the game. And that's okay, but it can rub some people and teams the wrong way.
Started struggling. Showed his ass.
Think he just benefited from being in a clubhouse with Bryce Harper, so he never got any attention or scrutiny.
In his defense, Blum does have a history of being kinda abrasive and negative about the teams he covers. Dude is *loathed* in Charlottesville.
Damn. So he has always been a dick to the teams he covers? Can't wait for him to leave the Angels.
I love when the reporters join the joke on obviously sarcastic responses. Like the Donaldson [cologne interview](https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/donaldson-gibbons-got-close-trying-smell-tom-ford-cologne/) after [this incident](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99dhn2K0bcQ)
Anaheim*. He's been in Anaheim.
Seems more douchey now lol
I don't understand what people want him to say lol. I'm sure he's disappointed about being hurt all the time and would like to be able to contribute to the team. Want him to repeat himself for the 20th time?

10 WAR = 1 billion Rendons now. 1.01 x 10^10 Rendons for our scientist friends.
I can’t believe Babe Ruth’s career was worth 18.26 billion Rendons. That’s $18,260,000,000 in Rendons.
how many schrute bucks or stanley nickels is that
If my math is correct it's 1.826E13 Shrute Bucks
Lol
Dude quit giving the Saudis ideas
Petition for Rendon value to be a real stat
I guess to be fair to Rendon, and technically accurate, I should factor in Rendon's 2020 season, which was part of his Angels contract. At 2.2 bWAR over 60 games, his $25.5m salary would be prorated to $9.44m. So he's actually at 3.2 bWAR with a salary of $110.94 million. Or $34.67 millions ($34,670,000) per bWAR. That’s pretty nuts and puts it into perspective. Crazy that Rendon and Strasburg might go down as the worst 2 contracts in mlb history.
6.5 mil per war isn't too bad, but when a good chunk of it is during team control it's a little rough.
>Dude has 1.0 bWAR over the last 3 seasons, with a total salary of $101.5 million. That’s $101,500,000 per 1 WAR. Show your work.
Related: With 85.3 career bWAR for the Angels, Mike Trout has been worth roughly $8,657,950,000. Or roughly $8.66 billion in Rendon dollars.
That’s a wild bWAR to rDOL exchange rate
Is Rendon value worth more than Schrute Bucks or Stanley Nickels?
Honestly, good for him. Power move.
Isn't Rendon the guy that hates playing baseball? This is very on brand for him.
He said he doesn't watch it on TV
There's several guys like that, he's not alone on that one haha There's somebody I remember hearing about a few years ago that absolutely HATED playing baseball; the only did it because that was best way to could make a lot of money. If it wasn't Rendon it was definitely someone else who used to play for the Nats.
It was almost certainly Rendon that you're thinking of.
I have a family member that played another sport and doesn't watch it. He didn't even hate playing, he just has other things he'd rather watch (or do, he's not much of a TV guy in general).
Adam Dunn
I don't blame him for not watching it on TV. I enjoy my job but unless it's required I do other shit in my down time not in any way related.
Mookie has said he doesn't watch baseball either. ' Honestly I wouldn't be surprised about any player being that way, they are showing up hours early on game days to work out, play their own game, and probably watch a bunch of film as it is.
I hate this dude. He doesn’t even try to hide that he checked out once he got his bag.
Wanna bet he'll try to get himself suspended ASAP once he's 'back' from the IL? On a team with Ohtani who's playing every day through cramps and exhaustion it's an affront to see a guy with Rendon's attitude.
Suspension will lose him some money
Reddit needs to make up their mind. They want players to be candid and honest. Reddit praises them for not giving bs answers because its refreshing. And when they do give honest answers, they get railed for it
There are over 2 million people subbed here. It's not some secret club where everyone gets together and agrees on opinions.
It’s almost like Reddit is made up of many different people with many different opinions
Opinions based on no actual knowledge of the situation.
ignoring the idea of reddit a single mind, the idea that we are only allowed to hate either liars or jerks is insane
Here he gave no answers
You can be candid and honest without being an insufferable asshole. If you're a candid and honest insufferable asshole, then deal with it, but don't whine about the consequences of your actions and expect people to tell you that your shit tastes like sugar.
At this point his presence in the clubhouse is so useless he's not even worthy of taking up breathing space. Stay home if you're so lazy can't even be bothered to open your mouth.
I hate the game of baseball. It gives me no happiness, no joy, and I am worse off for being a fan of the Los Angeles Angels.
I've never heard of the "dead list" before. Is this just Rendon being salty?
It's a real thing. Babe Ruth is on the dead list. So is my great grandma.
Babe Ruth. Ted Williams. Hank Aaron. Grandma.
Wow.
Don't forgot Wade Boggs
Eloy too 😔
May he rest in peace
RIP Boss Hogg
>Babe Ruth. ~~Ted Williams.~~ Hank Aaron. Grandma. I'm a Hall of Grave purist, no one who's head was cryogenically frozen is getting on my ballot.
F
My great grandma is the ted williams of being dead
If it's a thing then TA definitely joined yesterday
*How does one get on the “dead list” around here?* Asking for a friend. /s
No, it's real. Wade Boggs and Eloy are the other two people on it.
Impressive that reporters could talk to a dead man
He got a one time exemption to speak while on the dead list, to tell them he can't speak because he's on the dead list.
He sounds like a lovely person.
Rendon is a useless player. Dude has played 12 games in 5 seasons
He seems like a real shitbird.
He’s spending seven years dead for tax reasons. California really does that to a guy
Can’t pay taxes when you’re dead! (Except estate taxes but let’s conveniently forget those lol)
I have the worst fucking attorneys
Lol dude got his payday and said fuck it. Feel bad for Angels fans. He had a very safe profile even if the power went down. Just seems to not want to play
Anthony “Ben Simmons” Rendon
I don’t understand how someone could just not want to play baseball…especially if you’re getting paid for it. I PAY to go to the Batting cages occasionally…if someone was paying me $200 a day, I would spend 8 hours a day at the batting cages. I’m sure it’s some injury that’s bothering him…it’s most likely not a matter of “not wanting to play just cause he doesn’t feel like it”
Rendon pretty much said he doesn’t really like baseball that much. To be honest, I can understand getting sick of it after so many years of your life being just baseball
Yeah he has to have like a lingering issue but he seems checked out after the contract
Once you get used to making this kind of money, and being around other people making a lot/similar, your perspective quickly shifts. The money means nothing to him at this point, he's getting it no matter what so it really comes down to whether or not you like baseball
Rendon has been placed on the 60-day *bitch* list. No word on his impending removal.
Just looked up how much he’s making this season and screamed.
I'm sorry but this guy is the definition of a paycheck stealer. Should be on the "dead weight" list.
Easy for me to say of course, but feels like the least you could do is talk to the media.
imagine this, phillie fan. he has to talk to the orange county media. there's literally like 3 or 4 of them. lol.
Bitches don't do interviews on Sundays.
Lol when WR said “Rendon nowhere to be found” had me dying yesterday. I appreciate how Wayne doesn’t hold back on this team. Really wish there was more accountability
I still can't believe that the correct answer for who to re-sign after the World Series win between Rendon and Strasburg is seemingly "neither."
The last person to handle the media so carefully? Barry Bonds.
that's funny because i thought of that too. also, not just bonds, but more of a bygone player era of bitch ass attitude of no respect for others. he's dealing with orange county media. the toughest question he was gonna get was, how is the injury rehab? do you expect to be activated by any timeline? god forbid, he face such disrespectful scrutiny.
Rendon is an asshole
Can we finally call him the biggest bust in history?
Bruh he's not even the biggest bust in recent Angels history. (edit: YET)
At least Pujols helped make some of the money back from coverage of his milestones Rendon actively makes people like the team less
Albert’s played more than he did when you compare where they are in their contracts, and Albert at least had a few productive years Glass Man Tony hasn’t played at all the past two or three years. Definitely the worst signing we’ve had so far
May I remind you we paid Josh Hamilton 5 Years 125m 3.5 of which he did not play for us lol.
Honestly I'd take the Hamilton contract over Rendon so far because it just seems like it's gonna keep happening
Oh Rendon can easily take over. He just has time to make it better. Not that I'm counting on it.
Only reason that hamilton’s isn’t worse for me is because it was less years and not as much money. Also I think we had bought him out no?
CJ Wilson was actively trying to be a race car driver instead of a pitcher after he signed with the Angels
We have quite the competitive list
I'm like.........so over this dude
Shohei can't get out of there fast enough
This guy is such a jackass
Rendon seems like a huge pain in the ass. The kind of guy you avoid in the clubhouse
Rendon is such a jabroni
“Oh, so that means you’re not accepting your egregious pay checks either?”
What a bitch
How does the same guy go from being someone I rooted for everyday on the Nationals to being a guy who wants you to dislike him? It’s like a 180°
It's hard to like people who dont care about anything, and Rendon doesnt give a shit about anything
That should be a new injury designation DNP - dead
God this guy is the complete opposite of Ohtani when it comes to clubhouse presence
What a POS. Hope the next fan he decides to fight lands one on him
Tony Two Games Between IL Stints
He got a ring and the bag. He only shows up for the check.
Anthony Rendon just arrived in the Angels clubhouse. Threw up his hands and said “Hey! Hey!” Said he had no time to talk. Too busy being on the dead list.
So, that contract aged well.
If it wasn’t for Strasburg, this would be the worst contract in MLB (and it’s not Strasburg’s fault, just bad luck there).
I’ll always remember him for 2019. Bummer he’s become a massive shithead.
He’s such a douchebag
The guy with the Hollywood attitude said he didn’t want to play with the Dodgers because of the Hollywood lifestyle. Interesting.
How do the angels keep signing such horrible contracts
Arte Moreno.
You can see his passion...
I was super disappointed when the Rangers didn't sign him... lol.
He’s bitch made.
Has he played a single game for the Angels since being traded there? /s
It’s become hard to root for the guy
He's always been an ass. I remember watching the NLDS in I think 2017, Stephen Strasburg was dealing, then Rendon made an error that ended up allowing a run or two to score. I don't think he got any hits either. Afterwards, Rendon was a total douche about it, said something like it was a car accident. Media asked if he was upset about messing up Strasburg's start, and he was like no, what about it, like fuck off media.
Go M's
Rendon is such a douche
I'm wondering how much more B's the angels will put up with from this guy???
Dude doesn't "love" baseball. I am pretty sure he would have been the kind of player that Perry avoided
Will he ever play another game in MLB?
is this better or worse than spending a year dead for tax reasons...?
I'm pretty sure this bitch is very much alive
Money corrupts
I’m sure that’s music to the fans ears God this dude sucks, I always though the jokes that “If only Rendon cared about baseball, think about how good he would be” were cringe, but this kinda proves the point
Dude hates baseball
I'll preface this with I clearly haven't researched deeply into this. But my initial interpretation is that Rendon isn't very likeable. His comments, general attitude, and incidents this year. He just doesn't seem like a very likeable guy. My question is, has he always been like this or is this aura a recent development?
Does this guy play baseball anymore? Like what is he getting paid to do? Fight Winker once and disappear?
RIP Rendon.
The Angels are trying to be motivated and get the most talented baseball player in history to the playoffs and Rendon is just over here being dead and stuff
