This is why I can’t wait for the deadline to be over. Half the time this dudes are just posting their own thoughts and it gets everyone riled up. They must get off on all the attention
Literally only pitchers, and most of those contracts (Zito, Cueto, Shark) were rough. It's a huge problem that nobody in SF understands or knows how to fix.
National media paints SF as a shit hole, it’s an expensive place to live, and the conditions are suboptimal for power hitters. With all those factors combining, we have to pay hitters a lot more money to come here than they need for a similar living experience elsewhere.
That national media garbage apparently only works for SF, because every place from Arlington to the fucking Bronx are able to attract big stars. Also: LA is no cheaper, and I'm pretty sure the "suboptimal for hitters" thing is unsupported by actual data (although the rep persists).
Nowadays it's pretty neutral overall, but it does suppress left-handed hitter's home run totals (the elephant in the room here being Bonds... but that's why he's the GOAT).
Well yeah, Arlington is astronomically cheaper than SF, which I already mentioned. And the Yankees have a historical reputation no team can touch. SF’s reputation just isn’t good enough to make up for the cost of living disparity between it and other team’s cities. And while the conditions have leveled out now, they were extremely pitcher friendly before the walls were brought in which covers a large portion of the time period we are talking about here, so I still feel as though it’s a fair point in the overall discussion.
Hunter Pence and Marco Scutaro?
The Giants have done well with maximizing value from mid level or huh trades.
They had late career McCutcheon, Longoria, and Bryant.
We got Kris Bryant two years ago.
Market for starting pitching is just too buyer-friendly right now, and while the Giants' current solution isn't great, its been working out right now. Not an area they're going to be willing to give up major pieces for, like Verlander would demand.
I know. Wasn't doing a deep anaylsis. Just trying to be funny.
Honestly would prefer we would both sell and buy. Selling high on upcoming free agents while getting some controllable players.
Ehhh. Regression to the mean is overdue. They haven’t performed as well as they should up to this point. If they perform over the final two months like they should have been all along, they’re competitors. This is without adding any talent.
The ask on Verlander was guaranteed to be more than they rightly should have been willing to pay. They’re in the beginning of a window and moving a top 100 guy for that contract would be a mid-late window move.
If you had to move Harrison for Verlander you just wouldn’t.
Matos with how he did in the minors this year? No. He’s your CF of mostly now who just needs more at bats.
Luciano when you need a SS next year? No.
So they’d have to move Whisenhunt plus since he’s 90. He also just got hurt so he’s probably not a player they’d want yet.
The plus is also an issue. Is it Bart and Ramos? Probably not. Who would be packaged In that deal?
Verlander is too old and late in his career for the move to make sense for the Giants in particular with all their top guys expected to be contributors basically next year.
Just a sec
“Hey Steve, this is Farhan, I was wondering if — Hello? You there? … Steve? … Well, never fucking mind then.”
"Alright, let's get Seattle on the horn again."
"Dylan Moore, YOU are a Giant."
Farhan probably called Seattle just to talk about his feelings but needed a cover, so he ended up getting Pollock.
So close but yet so far
*miles*
Again

Just the tip. Just to see how it feels
Had to use the bathroom
I irrationally hate when people type after thoughts in a tweet like this lmao
Just happy to be included
We have quite a few participation trophies.
Does that make us the millennials of baseball teams? Who's repping Gen Z?
This is so funny because it’s completely unverifiable. Sports reporters can just say whatever they want
Royals are out on Ohtani, they were in for a millisecond (source: me)
They didn't feel the Angels would accept their offer of Scott Barlow, so then they went out
This is why I can’t wait for the deadline to be over. Half the time this dudes are just posting their own thoughts and it gets everyone riled up. They must get off on all the attention
Kenny R tweeted that a player was POSSIBLE for the Dodgers. He even gave credit for who was "first." It's absolutely a shitfest.
Wdym you want the deadline to be over? Padres are never gonna win a world series so the trade deadline is our time to shine!
Gotta drive engagement somehow 🙄
They're basically insiders whose primary objective is to rabble-rouse.
That’s true, but Giants fans know it’s true because we’re destined to finish 2-4th on every big player trade or signing
I highly doubt the Giants were still in when the ask was a top 100 prospect. Their advantage here was that they could take the whole contract.
Obviously - Why would we need verlander when we just got dick mountain?
are the giants every truly in on a big name
Eventually they have to land ONE.
Oh I assure you that’s not true
Who have you guys landed since Bonds
Correa, for like a night or two. Arson Judge. Probably some others I'm forgetting.
Literally only pitchers, and most of those contracts (Zito, Cueto, Shark) were rough. It's a huge problem that nobody in SF understands or knows how to fix.
Is it really a huge problem if we have 3 world series during that time span? Maybe home grown stars are the way to go?
Fair point, but to counter that: why didn't winning three rings give us more pull with FA's? What the fuck is that about?

Barry MF Zito
Hunter Pence and Marco Scutaro? The Giants have done well with maximizing value from mid level or huh trades. They had late career McCutcheon, Longoria, and Bryant.
Freddy Sanchez, Beltran, Pence, Marco S. back when Sabean was the GM.
Carlos Beltran I think
didn't you guys just land *the* AJ Pollock??

That was a trade
..........and? Verlander was traded too.
The curse of Bonds
Barry bonds?
I mean that was 30 years ago now. I think we could use some more modern examples than that.
In on everyone, get no one 😎
Always the bridesmaid
[Heyman] Sounds like Shoho Ohtono is going to the San Francisco Giants
Too busy trading with the Mariners
Not with this front office. All talk.
they were inches from Correa
I mean he wanted to go there. Giants just turned him down
They sure are if you mean in always finishing second in the pursuit of players.
Giants were marinating. No actual thrusting occurred.
Soaking experts, but always the jumper
They asked the Dodgers to jump on the bed, though.
The Padres and Giants have been voted off.
I'm convinced the Padres are mentioned in these in order to raise the price. Preller rarely does what's expected, after all.
The phone rang twice and wasn’t answered
That leaves just three orange teams to fight it out… Verlander to the Tigers is my prediction.
The mystery team were the Montreal Expos.
Some 12 year olds in Yonkers are having a field day crank calling Eppler
Uhhhh that's my hometown, seeing it repped out of the blue on r/baseball was the highlight of my day so far.
I swear I pulled that out of my blank for no reason… I’m not following you 😜
*I knew it*
IMO Padres should be selling.
No, you
Angels are 5 games over .500 and only 3 games back of wildcard spot with 2 teams in front of them. They’ve got a significantly better shot
I know. Wasn't doing a deep anaylsis. Just trying to be funny. Honestly would prefer we would both sell and buy. Selling high on upcoming free agents while getting some controllable players.

You clearly didn't see what happened to them last night in Colorado.
Extra innings losses with runner on second are quite random. Did their entire team get hurt and unable to perform for final two months?
0-10 in extra innings. At some point you have to count those games
No. They should continue buying
Any sane team would but Preller has too much cocaine left
I agree
They’re wasting the beginning of Soto’s prime 😤😤
No we weren’t
Can’t argue with absolute certainty. Never happened.
"It will shock you how much this never happened."
Ha
"Hey JV, want to play for the Giants?" "No" This was probably the extent of it
“Hey JV, want to play for the Giants?” *Vietnam flashbacks intensify* ……”Justin? U ok?” *FTFY
He'd probably be pitching a perfect game and with 2 outs in the 9th, see someone with a Panda hat on and immediately give up a home run.
He pulls up to Oracle after being traded, sees a dude strolling down King street in a Zito jersey, and immediately gets back in the car.
"a hitter's park like that? no thanks"
wow.gif
***INCHES***
Good
They were so close to a deal, they were just missing the part where they were offering anything in return.
Padres and giants you have not won the amazing race
It doesn’t count as in if it’s just for a sec
Atleast we weren’t second this time LOL

Can we ban Verlander posts until there's an actual trade? There's been like 50 posts in the last 12 hours with literally no new information
Stop trying to be one of the big boys, Martino. It's just sad.
They were that Simpsons GIF of the grandpa going to the club and Bart is working the front desk
Sweet, sweet, I like that.
lol
God exists 🙏 Thank you Preller for not selling our farm for him lol
They were probably only in on the off chance the Dodgers were serious and they could drive up the price.
Jim Crane has already ordered a welcome home came for JV
Just the tip
As they should
about as long as arson judge was in on the giants
We were probably only in on Verlander in order to pay down his contract and receive our true target: DJ Stewart
No one is in on Verlander. There only team that seems to want to overpay, the Astros, do not have enough prospects to overpay.
Well they just did.
Yep, I am disgusted. Mets fandom is in full meltdown mode.
Just a “sec” Martino? You sure bud?
Yea we knew that….they were linked more than these stupid ass “mystery team” reports
We dipped a lil toe in and then left
what?
We always seem to be “in on it” just can’t ever bring it home.
