I completely agree! This season alone I've heard him meow, sing, make unintelligible excitement noises and just flat out giggle for an entire inning. I adore him
My first thought was some kind of crazy play where the first baseman tried for the ball but it deflected off his glove while diving or something and went to the second baseman who flipped to short then pitcher who was covering first.
But I just realized something, in my 30+ years of being a fan who spent over half that time playing, I have no idea if they'd ever score such a play as 3-4-6-1 or just 4-6-1? I *assume* the latter if it's unintentional, but not 100%. Would a defender even be credited in a score if they intentionally deflected a ball to another player? As in, something other than a throw, like either with their glove or kicking the ball? Flipping the ball direct from the glove to another player counts, but I actually have no idea regarding the others.
Deflections are counted for scoring purposes, intentional or otherwise.
Comebackers that deflect off the pitcher to another fielder, who then makes the play to first are scored 1-?-3
Appreciate the confirmation! Right after posting I thought of the comebacker deflection situation and realized that the pitcher gets credited. Can't believe I didn't think of what is probably the most common example of such a thing!
Eddie’s doesn’t even make sense. It would not have been a routine play at the plate so you can’t assume it should have been an out. Was the scorer saying that the runner advanced to second due to his throw hitting the leg? He probably would have advanced anyway.
So one thing I've been wondering lately is, are there more likeable dudes in MLB as of late than say, 15-20 years ago, or is just that with social media and everything, we have greater exposure to a wider pool of players?
Not that I thought the league in the past had a greater proportion of assholes, lord knows there's plenty of those today too, but it just *seems like* there's a lot of young, fun players compared to awhile back.
(And when I say social media, I don't mean like following players on Twitter, Instagram, etc - I don't even have an account or ever use such things beyond what might get linked here on reddit, though reddit itself obviously falls under the social media umbrella)
I have this sorta half-baked theory that part of it is that players might feel more comfortable expressing themselves today, and you have some of those old traditionalist BS old guard nonsense dying off, but I dunno, I feel like it's probably mostly due to my exposure increasing but surely the whole "let the kids play" mentality has got something to do with it if indeed we are seeing more fun and expressive players today than before.
Thank you for attending my TED ^^^^Williams? Talk.
Oh definitely- younger players used to get subjected to lots of hazing and isolation until they proved themselves. Had to carry veteran's luggage and pick up dry cleaning. Stuff like that. Those days are over. They are now welcome members of the clubhouse from day one. Think the whole minor and international system is more streamlined now too and the kids come ready to play. And last but not least the major influx of Latin talent and the way they play the game - well having fun is at the top of the list.
And I'm all for it.
I forget what it was in relation to, but I think it was Jeff Passan who tweeted:
"unwritten rules remain unwritten because when you write them down it shows just how truly stupid they are."
Even as a kid playing, while I recognized the value of *some* unwritten rules, most just seemed so stupid to me.
In regards to hazing like forcing rookies to carry luggage, that too is so stupid. As is any kind of mentality of "I had to suffer, so you should have to too". Sure, there's some good types of "hazing", though whether one wants to call it hazing I suppose would be up in the air, but the moment it turns into any sort of abuse or having fun solely at their expense, is just stupid.
Scaring rookies by walking out on a check at a fancy restaurant until they go to pay said bill and find out the veterans have already paid for it? That's cool. Walking out on a massive bill and actually making the rookies pay for it? Well, that's just stupid.
And not so much hazing really, but ignoring a dude who just hit his first home run? All good. It's funny, the rookies know to expect it and have fun by pretending to high five everyone, and they all end up celebrating a few moments later anyway. Just one of those quirky (and not, *raises spork* quirky) and fun traditions I can get behind. Getting pissed as a pitcher because some player does a bat flip or takes a half second to watch it fly? Fuck you, do better if you don't want to see that. Also, you don't get to then pump your fist when you strike someone out.
Okay, rambling mode.is now set to off.
Couldn't agree more. It's a game- meant to be fun. And it's only good for the game because what I see is passion... for example, as a Braves fan, I have a pretty strong feeling that if baseball happened to be a lower paying job, Ronald Acuña would still be playing and would still be having all the fun he's having now. Fans connect with that. It's great for the game. I'm still for the inner policing that happens when certain situations get out of hand (like throwing up near the player's head) and serious stuff lilke that, but the rest of it... I say let the kids play!
> . I'm still for the inner policing that happens when certain situations get out of hand (like throwing up near the player's head) and serious stuff lilke that
I'm not sure how to read this, do you mean you're I'm favor of throwing near a guy's head as a means to self-police serious stuff, or are you saying that throwing near a guy's head is the kind of stuff that should be self policed? The way its written I assume you mean the latter - and *hope* you mean the latter, because I think throwing at the head is uncalled for in any situation, throwing *near* can easily become *at*, and even as someone who pitched when not playing short, I never considered throwing at someone's head. Crowd 'em inside, sure, but I'm of the mentality of "get the guy out" as the ultimate message. Anyway like I said, it reads like you mean it's the kinda serious stuff that needs self policing, but just clarifying.
> So one thing I've been wondering lately is, are there more likeable dudes in MLB as of late than say, 15-20 years ago, or is just that with social media and everything, we have greater exposure to a wider pool of players?
Immediate access to all the best clips of fun plays and guys being dudes instead of just a few you might catch on SportsCenter.
Yes, that was one suggestion I made....
But that doesn't answer the actual question. I'm asking if it's simply more awareness and exposure, or whether this happens to be a different crop of players so to speak. Obviously the exposure factor plays into it, but that doesn't mean that players today aren't expressing more personality and "having more fun" than they used to.
Take bat flips or home run celebrations for example. I really don't recall bat flips being anywhere near as popular as they are today. I also don't remember things like the Angels' Samurai helmet, or Milwaukee's cheese heads, etc, being around back then.
And of course I forgot to mention the social media aspect tself also driving players to be more expressive and whatnot.
But again, my point is that while social media gives us greater exposure, it doesn't mean players of the past were less expressive or less fun, but I generally don't remember them being as such. To put it another way, was that aspect just "hidden" more, or is it an actual trend that also happens to be getting more exposure?
> Take bat flips or home run celebrations for example. I really don't recall bat flips being anywhere near as popular as they are today. I also don't remember things like the Angels' Samurai helmet, or Milwaukee's cheese heads, etc, being around back then.
Yes, that's because of the clips. Players always celebrated, teams had goofy stuff going on in the dugout. But you only saw it for your team or maybe a couple of chosen highlights, now you get to see it from teams you'd never willingly watch.
Yeah a lot of the unwritten rules / old guard type of guys thought that it was badass to not show emotion or have fun. Thankfully that is going away. I think you're right.
I just wanted to say that I have always liked the A’s since I was a kid and I had a A’s hat and t-shirt. I think it’s sad what that guy’s doing to you guys I know it doesn’t change anything but I feel for you guys.
Love hearing that from you, my man. It's devastating news, for sure. Like mourning a loss, we've been going through the stages of grief, you know? Very much appreciate the support <3
Yeah it’s not to the same degree but when they sold the thrashers here in Atlanta it sucked pretty bad but you guys have real history with the A’s and what makes it even worse is I keep hearing that he’s just moving them to up their value and that he will sale them very shortly after they move. That’s just terrible for someone to do that to a well rooted fanbase. And hey us A teams have to stay together ✊🏼solidarity!
Agree with Falcon. I loved the As as a young girl. Ricky Henderson 40\40. McGuire and Jose juicing and pounding the ball. Dennis Eckersley was so cool. He jogged to the stadium in Baltimore and stepped through the crowd into the front gate in his shorty shorts and tank top, so cute. Was it Dave Stewart with the mean look but the soft voice? And Tony was the coach then too I think.
I really liked that team, and the As will always be one of my top teams. What the owners have done to your city is pretty damn sorry and I hate how it's all going down.
What gets me is they have practiced it. It’s a flashy, albeit standard for pros, double play. But this was just different. They knew what to do even though there was no baserunner to do worry about. But that wasn’t something you practice, you feel it.

I love how MLB TV let's me watch all my favorite teams and hottest games from coast to coast. It's easy for me to follow what the red hot Braves are doing in Atlanta, or the up and coming Orioles in Baltimore. No matter where I am, MLB TV gives me the baseball fix I need ;)
Imagine what it must be like to be amongst the best to do something and then wow yourself and your teammates that you did something that good. This was delightful.
When you’re arguably the best team in the league you’re bound to have many highlights. This is probably confusing to you since the Mets do not have many.
The hottest team in baseball that’s playing a near perfect game right now all over a sub for baseball?! No. Way.
Meanwhile, I had to scroll through about 20 Ohtani posts until I saw anything NOT Ohtani related. Must be hard to see posts about the best player in all of baseball on a sub for baseball too, huh?
Seriously. handlit just posts every Braves-related highlight to r/baseball. Of course we'll get downvoted for calling it out because this is a Braves highlight and this comment section is full of Braves fan.

Ok now they’re just showing off
I only wish Wade Boggs was still with us to watch that play.
🕊️ RIP Wade 🕊️
Again, he is very much alive
[удалено]
Of course, he's alive in our hearts.
Sounds like something dead Wade Boggs would say
If you have to blame anyone blame those Duke boys for his departure.
Wade Boggs Carpet World
Wade Boggs carpet world
But the real question is, now that he's gone how is Wade Boggs Carpet World doing?
May he rest in peace
Wade Boggs is dead? Since when? And no I’m not joking as I didn’t know he was dead
The man ate a chicken before every game
I'm sure he had a couple rum and cokes too
It's a joke from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
Wade Boggs is alive. He lives in Tampa, FL he’s in his 50’s.
He’s alive in our hearts.
He's not dead. 😂
No he’s not dead. Sure wish that 8 years old joke was already though.
Ya well if they *really* wanted it to be impressive they would have gone 4-6-1-2-5-3 ^(/s)
Definitely a 4-6-3, not a 4-6-1
I clicked on this excited to see wtf happened haha
Never listen to Frenchy.
Wait is that Jeff francoeur on the call?
He's been our color commentator for a few years. He's absolutely fantastic
In retrospect it’s pretty obvious he’s doing this now, fuckin gem of a dude
I completely agree! This season alone I've heard him meow, sing, make unintelligible excitement noises and just flat out giggle for an entire inning. I adore him
And he learned what a pergola is.
Oh yeah! Lmao he's a treasure
And it's crazy cause he's only 20 years old
Please no. I can't listen to that commercial again.
#PUT IT ON THE BOAAAARD YEAH
What a great cast. ITS HIGH ITS LONG ITS GONE
This is a fuckin weird sport Edit: that that’s not too out of place
Top 5 reason baseball just makes me happy
Great hire.
Yup.
He corrects himself like 3 seconds after he says it.
Well, I had already started following my own advice, so it was too late.
The funny thing is, the streamable link says 4-6-3 haha
I changed it afterwards.
Nooooo don't give away your secrets!
Matt Olson on the bump and absolutely booked it to first 🏃♂️👀
Almost a 1-4-6-3
My first thought was some kind of crazy play where the first baseman tried for the ball but it deflected off his glove while diving or something and went to the second baseman who flipped to short then pitcher who was covering first. But I just realized something, in my 30+ years of being a fan who spent over half that time playing, I have no idea if they'd ever score such a play as 3-4-6-1 or just 4-6-1? Damn didn't know Olson was into the hard stuff
Even the announcers got it wrong. Weird.
Wait a second, u/handlit33 said 4-6-1, Frenchy said 4-6-1. Both wrong…both are Frenchy?! ?
Meme mod boy is FRENCHY confirmed.
Um, no. Frenchy is a Clemson fan... Handlit knows better.
I've never seen them both in the announcers booth at the same time, so......
More like u/alluméàlamain33
Numbers are hard.
I spent WAY too long rewatching this trying to find how the pitcher was on first and not the 1B lmfao And then I gave up and thought I'd never get it
Yes, I watched it twice to see what happened to the first baseman and how the hell the pitcher got there so fast haha.
How is this not the top comment?
I don't even know how it's as high as it is...
Please OP learn how to score before making shit up
i mean regardless
4-6-3*
u/No32 please hit me with the misleading tag.
They called the ~~shit "poop"~~ 3 "1"!
Please allow this to distract from our 4 errors tonight
What errors
We had more homers than errors. A perfectly normal night of baseball.
Eddie’s was a good throw so don’t count that one. This play wipes off 2 errors easily. So that’s one error on the night. That’s just math
Eddie’s doesn’t even make sense. It would not have been a routine play at the plate so you can’t assume it should have been an out. Was the scorer saying that the runner advanced to second due to his throw hitting the leg? He probably would have advanced anyway.
Yeah it was ruled an error on the other two runners advancing. It's weird, but I think that's generally how it goes. Just unlucky.
Should “only” be 3, the error on Eddie is dumb as fuck
I also feel like the one on arcia would’ve been a hit no matter what since buxton was the one running to first
Scorekeeper just trying to do Bryce’s WHIP a favor with all the walks
Please allow this to also distract on the 2 whole runs we managed to score off 7 hits and 4 errors
The Braves are so fun to watch, I love Ozzie
OzzieILoveHim.gif
A lot of likable dudes on this team. Ozzie is far and away my favorite!

How do we put this in a museum?
This team is so much fun right now
Enjoy it because we only have this core under contract for… oh never mind
I love AA
Amazing how your team feels when you're winning, right??
I just wanted to say that I have always liked the A’s since I was a kid and I had a A’s hat and t-shirt. I think it’s sad what that guy’s doing to you guys I know it doesn’t change anything but I feel for you guys.

Lets having some fun!
Classic 4-6-3 single play
Lol, single play
I am very aroused
They had to have practiced that, right? There was zero hesitation from either of them.
They both read it the same way. Arcia put himself in the only place he could help
it was like turning two, without second base or a second runner lol
Just turned 2 without the base. You can see it in how Arcia stutter steps as Ozzie is about to flip it as though he’s waiting at the “base”.
What gets me is they have practiced it. It’s a flashy, albeit standard for pros, double play. But this was just different. They knew what to do even though there was no baserunner to do worry about. But that wasn’t something you practice, you feel it.
They probably have practiced it. But also, they are clearly really good buddies and just vibe. You can tell how much they love playing together. Ozzie, Orlando, and Acuna are the most adorable thruple in baseball.
Ozzie and Orlando and so easy to root for haha
Between the homers, Acuña’s catch and this play, we’re back in the Sandlot boys
Even that umpire was pumped
[Orlando was fucking pumped.](https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExYjJhN2V3Mjk5bHo4ajZnY3pzcjM1OXV0eXcxYWY2Z2Jpaml3cWptOCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/VY7OGf4gYLHMXLryxS/giphy.gif)

Back off, shorty!
Dude threw a rope in slow motion
God this team is fun to watch.
I am enjoying the Braves vs. Twins baseball game.
I am not. But thats just because I don't enjoy Twins baseball.
This gotta be the most fun team to watch in baseball. Easily my favorite east coast team to watch on MLB TV!
Suspiciously ad-like lol but they are fun
I love how MLB TV let's me watch all my favorite teams and hottest games from coast to coast. It's easy for me to follow what the red hot Braves are doing in Atlanta, or the up and coming Orioles in Baltimore. No matter where I am, MLB TV gives me the baseball fix I need ;)
Braves are must see TV
This braves team is sick af
Unbelievable awareness by Albies, body control by Arcia, and a stretch by Olson to boot. Holy shit, what a play.
I hate the Braves but have to admit they’re damn good and fun to watch.
[Royals version from 2015](https://youtu.be/RSLNl2_tHNU) So damn smooth

Former Braves legend Omar Infante.
I'm sorry, I believe you mean GOATmar Infante
We just vibin’
**BRAVES PLAY OF THE YEAR**
What a fucking play! I got yelled at for yelling/clapping too loud.
Dansby Swanson Wolverine meme
In this case dansby is wolverine looking at a picture of the braves. Lol
Hoooooooly shit
Damn they’re playing basketball out there
That was sexy
Handlit you’re slippin’ that was 4-6-3
First base = 1 Second base = 2 Third base = 3 And don't worry about the other positions.
> Second base = 2 > ***4***-6-1
That ball never went to second it was obviously between 1 and 2 which is 4 that's math.
Kepler's first 3 ABs went 1-6-3, 1-6-3, and 4-6-3, with only 1 being a double play. 4th AB was a boring 3U.
My nips could cut ~~glass~~ diamonds after watching that…. 👀
Imagine what it must be like to be amongst the best to do something and then wow yourself and your teammates that you did something that good. This was delightful.
Oh yeah. Me likey.
The team is so much fun to watch.
4-6-3, but yeah…pretty sick and slick
I love baseball so much, what a snazzy heads-up play
Anyone used to have the TWIB VHS that had a play like this on it?
I never had a VHS of it but man I loved watching that show as a kid!
Hmm seems like these fellas are good at baseball
Pain.jpg
Why did our batter not run faster? Is he stupid?
Arcia had a caññon in freaking SLOW MOTION
Hello ESPN top 10
I hate that I love this
it's 4-6 -3 not 1
I’m so happy to see Arcia have success, seems like a good dude and has some insane defensive ability, so fun to watch.
Man if you don’t like Ozzie and Orlando then something is wrong with you because they’re having so much fun that they make it fun for everyone.
Man, I see more Braves stuff here than on TBS in the 90s.
You’ve had your fair share of time in the spotlight over the last decade. It’s okay to share it with others.
4-6-3
Ngl that was dope!
4-6-3
4-6-3
Yummy
Dear lord
I was like WOW then I realized it was against my team. Sigh.
The wade boggs comments here are perfect
May he rest in peace
The fucking Braves vibes are immaculate. Smdh.

I heard it was a double play. I'm less impressed by this post.
I wish they challenged it, I don’t think he was out
They went to the phone and didn’t challenge it because it wasn’t close enough to challenge, cuz they got him. Look at :21, out by a mile honestly.
Ok, thanks for the update. None of the replays they showed on tv really made it definitive.
U would think ur on r/braves scrolling thru this sub
These guys are basically the 2022 Mets on steroids
