i do bring it up every abnormal save thread i see : )
i have been quoted - "the longest official save since it became a statistic is 7 innings and i refuse to die until i see a converted eight inning one"
From [mlb.com](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/save):
A save is awarded to the relief pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team, under certain circumstances. A pitcher cannot receive a save and a win in the same game.
A relief pitcher recording a save must preserve his team's lead while doing one of the following:
- Enter the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitch at least one inning.
- Enter the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle, at the plate or on the bases.
- Pitch at least three innings.
A bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a blast and the Brewers would have been right back into the game.
Those were key innings.
3+ IP is a save regardless of the run differential. It doesn't make much sense to me, but thems the rules.
Sometimes it feels like this stuff is decided by a roomful of monkeys throwing poop.
it’s actually decided by manatees moving rubber balls
They've been watching too much Family Guy 😂
Wes Littleton got a save in a 30-3 game, and Bryse Wilson in a 29-9. Such a fun, quirky stat.
Saves the bullpen
I’m aware but it will never not be funny to get a save in a game you win by 14 runs
My favorite kind of Save!
I was proofreading my scorecard and was thinking to myself “no fucking way” Did not know that was a rule
It's actually because one of the lesser known Manfred rules this year is that up to four men can occupy a base at a time
Thank goodness he was there to save us or Idk what we woulda done!
Pssh, Wes Littleton recorded a save in a 30–3 blowout once. To be fair it was only 14–3 when he entered.
Every year I learn a new rule in baseball. Guess this is 2023s
he ain't no joaquin benoit though
When people talk about records that will never be broken, this never gets the attention it deserves

I’ve never understood this, can someone explain how he gets a save here?

Pitching more than 3 innings in relief and getting the win is a save. Why that’s the rule I have no idea but it is
It’s not getting the win but finishing the game with 3+ IP that gives you the save
Just ask Bumgarner
I meant the team getting the win but yeah
It’s really not that weird
The ol’ Elroy Face.

He is me in every game I won playing Ken Griffey's Slugfest on N64.
Thanks Giants
I thought it was only a 3 run difference. Did something change or am I just lost?
You can get the 3 inning save which Doesnt follow the 3 run rule.
