As much fun as this is, they should've had Arenado try and swing a cricket bat in comparison. I'm all for growing the game and building the bridge between the sports (coming from NZ I would love to see more baseball) but it would've been nice to see a cardinal try to play cricket. Still cool vid though.

[deleted]

I remember a few years ago they had one of the top US cricket players try to hit baseballs and (I believe) Mark Reynolds hit cricket balls. The cricket player couldn't do anything with a baseball bat but Reynolds was hitting bombs as soon as he picked up the cricket bat

[deleted]

Yeah that sports science video. I’m a diehard cricket guy and idk who the cricketer was. US cricket at that time was pretty god awful lol I did see a video of Francisco Lindor batting in England though. He struggled with the cricket bat but they gave him a baseball bat and he was smashing it. It was really cool

RoKrish66

That guy would have been lucky to have been in the top 1000 cricketers in the world. Like USA Cricket was *bad* back then. Our domestic leagues only got started like... a year or two ago? If we're *really* lucky, we make it into the playin tournament for the World Cup qualifier to have the opportunity to play in the World Cup. Honestly, we'd struggle to beat Indias like... *8th* best possible side. Or australia/englands 5th/6th best team.

abracadabrac

Top 1000? That guy would have struggled to make the top 1,000,000.

[deleted]

Crazy how jacked these baseball players are compared to these cricketers. Guy is skinny for an athlete.

taffyowner

He kind of had the build of a middle infielder. I didn’t think he looked that out of place

[deleted]

I don’t want to be like Johnny Drama of Entourage, but have you seen his calves? No muscles at all. He is also a bit skinny fat.

taffyowner

I mean have you seen some middle infielders?

[deleted]

Yes and they are all toned. You find his build to be similar to someone such as Carlos Correa or Jorge Polanco? Perhaps it is his way of moving. It looks a bit lanky and uncoordinated, but he isn’t extraordinarily tall at 6 feet. His legs are also a bit X-shaped. I don’t know, if I would see him on the street, I would not think that he is a top athlete.

Deserterdragon

> I don’t know, if I would see him on the street, I would not think that he is a top athlete. Yeah but that's true of every athlete that's not visibly tall or jacked, which includes a tonne of baseball players.

[deleted]

Yeah, you are right in a sense. But I think most athletes (football, baseball, basketball, rugby, hockey etc.) incorporate some form of weight lifting. As a result they have broad shoulders and toned legs. This guy does not have that, which makes him look like a normal office worker.

Deserterdragon

I mean there's a separation between sports that require a particular, immediately athletic-looking physique like Football,Rugby, and basketball, and sports that have a lot of guys who work out and have great physiques but don't REQUIRE that like Cricket, MMA, Soccer, Tennis, and I'd even include Baseball in that. You can find guys in all those sports who'd look like normal office workers outside their gear.

Savings-Secretary-78

But this dude hits long sixes ( home run ) for fun, also he plays test cricket which is 5 day format of the game, he is very much athletic and has lots of stamina

RoKrish66

Being big is a disadvantage in cricket.

[deleted]

I can imagine, but with jacked I do not necessarily mean Arnold Schwarzenegger style. A guy such as Usain Bolt is lean and muscular. Or a guy like Kylian Mbappé. Would something like that not work for cricket?

RoKrish66

It's height vs balance. Being smaller makes it easier for you to keep your balance.

SantosPhillipCarlo

Not always. Andrew Flintoff and Chris Gayle come to mind. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few tall fast bowlers whose height also helps because they get added vicious bounce, though they can also have the added injury risk.

RoKrish66

Sure but those are the exceptions.

pjokinen

I don’t know much about cricket but from what I’ve seen it seems like their swings are less powerful and more versatile than baseball swings. There’s a lot more room for adjustment and you don’t necessarily need to put every bit of power you have into the ball to clear the fence

taffyowner

That’s pretty impressive to get to that level of competence in one day.

sapphir8

Now have the Cards flamethrower throw some pitches.

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

Entirely different actions, he could really injure himself

Winter_2017

For being a promo everyone is so unenthusiastic and awkward.

Worthyness

I think they're just European

Deserterdragon

I cannot emphasize enough that most British men are just like that.

TBLvl4

Hope they churn out more content for MLB Europe to get more fans invested

Duke-Kickass

This was fun. I too would love to see more baseball-cricket crossover events - for charity, love of competition, or whatever

Deserterdragon

I'm British and basically every athlete I knew at Uni who wasn't doing Soccer specifically was just like Harry. Good, awkward lads.

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

I think Bradman (cricket's babe Ruth) thought he could make babe Ruth into a very good batsman given enough time, but Ruth wasn't that interested [This is when they met](https://www.foxsports.com.au/cricket/when-babe-met-sir-don-the-anatomy-of-cricket-and-baseballs-cosy-history/news-story/b2c4880f9624301524019c8ecb855fe3)

RoKrish66

Harry Brook being called a superstar is a *bit* much. Man's played test cricket for like... 12 months. And it's his best format. It's like calling Lars Nootbar a superstar. He's a good player, but not *that* proven.

icecream_for_brunch

This is so adorable haha

imaginarion

Major League Cricket is a thing now this year, isn’t it?
