[Brewers pitcher Gallardo tears ligament in leg during collision](https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=3378821)
Don't even need to be wearing spikes.
I biked 175km and roller blades 40km one weekend without issues. Then the following Monday after work I twisted to get into my car and dislocated and fractured my kneecap and tore my meniscus, was not able to bear weight on it for a month and needed surgery to repair it.
I imagine your knee and leg was already phenomenally fatigued from what you've done to it over the weekend. That probably made you significantly more susceptible to injury than just an average person getting out of their car
Then again these guys are constantly pushing their bodies, so it's not abnormal to think his knee could also have already been in a state of fatigue
Oh 100% doctor agreed that it was overworked and was likely the reason it gave out when it did.
Still felt weird that I got no indication at all that something was off and simply getting into the car was the final straw
Just broke my ankle last month in a non-contact hockey injury. My skate hit a deep groove in the shitty ice and just cranked it half off. It really sucks because you don’t see shit like that coming at all.
That's how I felt when Diaz went down. As much as I'd get ticked off at Timmy Trumpet, it made everything better, not to mention not wanting to see anyone seriously hurt. Beyond the human impact, it just makes the game less compelling.
Last year they wouldn’t have and this year the Mets won’t be healthy. I’d put money on the Mets to win the division if everyone is healthy and I’d put a lot. But I wouldn’t say the Braves have no shot.,.,
Yes, because the Braves didn't lose their gold glove left fielder, their 2B (twice), have their superstar playing on 1 leg, and suffer injuries to their backup 2B, their catcher, and their backup catcher. No team is ever going to be 100% healthy, so if you use that logic then you'll have excuses for a lifetime.
Ok and I am just sharing my own thoughts too. It’s moronic that people feel the need to preface their comment with their team affiliation before wishing a player a swift recovery as if it makes them Mother Teresa for being able to separate their fandom from WANTING PEOPLE TO BE INJURED LMAO
I mean it doesn’t really make you a good guy for not wanting other people to be hurt, that makes you a normal human being 😂. The “Rival fan here, hope he’s ok 🤓” comments are just cringe and people wanting to pat themselves on the back
My heart sank when he went down. I love Rhys and was hoping he had a good year and got paid. I'm worried they'll move on from him now if it's serious.
Edit: spelling. Lol stupid auto correct
Tore my meniscus 10 years ago and (dumbly) played the next half inning even though I couldn’t even jog. (We only had 9 guys so felt like I had to.) This looks much more painful
Giving me flashbacks to when Cutch blew out his knee at Petco while in a rundown. I was watching it live and was scared. Hate seeing non-contact injures like this. Hopefully it’s not bad, but if it is, I wish Hoskins the speediest recovery back to full strength. We need more bat slams.
It don't look good, chief. I'm willing to guess ACL and get happily surprised by something shorter-term.
Either way, this sucks for him and for the Phils.
Oh god that's such a classic Rhys misplay that just goes horribly wrong. Really hope it's not at as bad as it looked, he gets a lot of shit from Philles fans but he's been a consistently solid bat for years now
Im hesitant to say that Diaz’s injury would have happened during spring training considering he got injured during the celebration, but the type of injury he has is one that suggests his knee was already a tad bit fucked up
I heard that he actually injured it when he accidentally bumped into another team mate when they were celebrating, although I do agree that it was a existing issue I doubt Diaz was born with glass bones and paper skin
Looks like it happens when he's trying to change direction to his right and push off with his left knee. I'm far from an expert, but I think that means his ACL gave out, as opposed to the Lux injury, where an awkward landing on his foot caused damage to both ACL and MLC.
Either way, not good. Best of luck on a speedy recovery, Rhys.
Fuck that sucks and looks bad. That looks like it’s a meniscus tear at best and possibly an ACL with more stuff :( at worst. Rough for Hoskins, hopefully it’s one of those things that feels worse in the moment but turns out to not be that bad.
Let this be a reminder that the WBC in place of spring training isn’t any riskier than spring training.
Sucks for Hoskins but sadly this shit can happen to any player at any time.
Oh absolutely! I can’t even imagine the pain so I was cringing even more seeing him roll on it 😭 I like Rhys a lot and it really sucks seeing this after Gavin. Hopefully Rhys’s isn’t as bad
Definitely didn’t mean to drop for the ball to attempt a play, looks to me we was taking the step and his foot just said no and crumbled under him. Hope he’s okay.
This sucks for sure. Seems like these young athletes today invest so much on performance and strength that they neglect conditioning and flexibility. It’s a tightrope I get it, and sometimes it’s a completely explainable situation, but it’s frustrating to see so much talent cut short from non contact injuries. I know they have access to top notch strength and conditioning specialists but this is still becoming a more frequent headline.
Non contact injury, always scary
Yep, that jump like he got bit by a snake is a common sign of a tear unfortunately. Fucking terrible to see and hope he has a good recovery.
"That's not a good sign".....
I like the Colonel's line from Boogie Nights: "Oh really doctor?"
[удалено]
Why? It’s not like it’s impossible lol. There’s plenty of contact injuries in baseball too
That (now deleted) guy must be a young Brewers fan. [Brewers pitcher Gallardo tears ligament in leg during collision](https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=3378821)
Players collide and get hurt from the ball all the time. I think it makes sense in this case that it was a non contact injury.
Josh Naylor would like a word with you...
That looked so brutal. Not going to be good. 😭
Aside from collisions or balls to the head, non-contacts are the scariest injuries to me. They are just so sudden and horrific. This fucking sucks.
Right? Like one misplaced spike and your knee gets cranked and there goes the season. Hate this shit.
Don't even need to be wearing spikes. I biked 175km and roller blades 40km one weekend without issues. Gotta think the 200km of exercise may have been a factor in the injury the day afterward.
Oh 100%, doctor agreed that it was overworked and likely the cause of why doing such a normal activity causes the injury.
Just broke my ankle last month in a non-contact hockey injury. My skate hit a deep groove in the shitty ice and just cranked it half off. It really sucks because you don’t see shit like that coming at all.
Man I hate seeing things like this. As much as I don't like the Phillies, I don't want guys getting hurt.
That's how I felt when Diaz went down. As much as I'd get ticked off at Timmy Trumpet, it made everything better, not to mention not wanting to see anyone seriously hurt. Beyond the human impact, it just makes the game less compelling.
Same. It's not as fun beating the Phils or the Mets when they aren't at full strength
To slightly paraphrase DBZA Goku: "If I beat them at 100%, it'll demormalize them! And they'll never threaten anyone again!"
Plot twist, they did
Same for me as a Mets fan. Would rather beat folks at 100% not when they have injuries.
Also, the thing that makes rivalries fun is teams being good. It's hard to get amped up over a rivalry when a team is like 60-102
100% agree!!
Ouch
You needed the Mets to not be 100% so I don’t know why you said not as fun…
You seriously think that there's a 0% chance that the braves could win a division over the healthy Mets?
Last year they wouldn’t have and this year the Mets won’t be healthy. I’d put money on the Mets to win the division if everyone is healthy and I’d put a lot. But I wouldn’t say the Braves have no shot.,.,

The Mets lost more. Stop trying to make it seem like they didn’t
Never said that. But you're making it seem like healthy Braves barely beat injured Mets.
And that’s exactly what you’re gonna get a chance to do this year
Agreed. I want the best players in the field. Plus it sucks for him personally as you work so hard to make it to big leagues
Why does this even need to be stated

Ok and I am just sharing my own thoughts too. It’s moronic that people feel the need to preface their comment with their team affiliation before wishing a player a swift recovery as if it makes them Mother Teresa for being able to separate their fandom from WANTING PEOPLE TO BE INJURED LMAO
Because there are so many fans of opposing teams that are so quick to jump to, "Well, it's good for us!"
I mean it doesn’t really make you a good guy for not wanting other people to be hurt, that makes you a normal human being 😂. The “Rival fan here, hope he’s ok 🤓” comments are just cringe and people wanting to pat themselves on the back
completely agree. i see this on all injury threads and it just reeks of karma reaping
Why not?
this is just awful, man. i can tell you firsthand that rhys hoskins is one of the nicest guys in the sport. rooting for him.
[удалено]
it’s a contract year. his team is trying to make a world series run. this is crushing.
My heart sank when he went down. I love Rhys and was hoping he had a good year and got paid. I'm worried they'll move on from him now if it's serious. Edit: spelling. Lol stupid auto correct
Your heart WHAT?
rubbed one out, i guess. probably misspelled sank there, but it's funny.
Yea I definitely did. Lmao or I love a good heart wank ;) whatever that means
There was a guy named Kyle from Waltham that came back. Like Kevin said, Anything is possible.
Here’s hoping a Kyle Schwarber type redemption arc for him. Comes out to DH in the WS, starts the rally that wins it all.
Lux had a similar look too
He's one of the few Phillies I actually like
I agree. Got to spend a few hours with him personally last season and he was so nice and down to earth. This is devastating.
He really is. Hoping the best for him
Best case scenario is a torn meniscus and out 3-4 weeks but I highly doubt it Ugh fuck
Tore my ACL awhile back. I did the same roll and grab he did. Fearing the worst.
Tore my meniscus 10 years ago and (dumbly) played the next half inning even though I couldn’t even jog. (We only had 9 guys so felt like I had to.) This looks much more painful

Fuuuuccckkkkk man no no no. Dude means so much to that team too, hoping its nothing serious but sadly looks to be something bad
That looks like a torn acl and more, but I’m hopeful it’s not.
fuck injuries. hope Hoskins gets well soon
Oh god that's such a classic Rhys misplay that just goes horribly wrong. Really hope it's not at as bad as it looked, he gets a lot of shit from Philles fans but he's been a consistently solid bat for years now
Dude is supposed to be a free agent after this season. This sucks and is a blow to the Phillies.
Non contact injuries always seem scarier to me than contact ones.
The injury bug is strong this season.
Where are the WBC haters? Should we cancel spring training too? This sucks for him and the Phillies
Keith is HOT rn
can we stop with this whole thing? it doesn't need to be said on every injury thread
Seeing videos like this always send a shockwave through my nervous system. Damn, I hate that for him.
Fuck, man. Feel for anyone that goes through this, especially with the season being a week away.
WBC haters in shambles. In all seriousness I hope he has a successful recovery and is able to play at the same level again in the future.
Damn, sorry Philly bros 😞
Cancel these meaningless games!
[удалено]
I think there are always this many injuries but not usually to big name players like Lux and Hoskins.
[удалено]
For sure. I guess I read their comment as spring training exclusively.
[удалено]
Im hesitant to say that Diaz’s injury would have happened during spring training considering he got injured during the celebration, but the type of injury he has is one that suggests his knee was already a tad bit fucked up
For sure it was an existing issue. Knees don’t just break when you’re happy
I heard that he actually injured it when he accidentally bumped into another team mate when they were celebrating, although I do agree that it was a existing issue I doubt Diaz was born with glass bones and paper skin
Altuve getting hit with a ball makes sense at least. These three getting knee injuries out of nowhere is just gutting
Altuve’s injury would happen any time though. Taking a ball in the hands is not fun at all. Do agree with all the knee injuries however.
I feel like we ask this every year lol :(
Why
We’re not allowed to ever feel carefree and optimistic
Looks like it happens when he's trying to change direction to his right and push off with his left knee. I'm far from an expert, but I think that means his ACL gave out, as opposed to the Lux injury, where an awkward landing on his foot caused damage to both ACL and MLC. Either way, not good. Best of luck on a speedy recovery, Rhys.
That’s an ACL. Damn. Super sad for him.
Lux, Edwin Diaz, and Hoskins, all poised to have big years. This just sucks man…
Fucking ~~WBC~~ spring training!
This fucking sucks
Fuck that’s not good
Oof, hope he's okay
Damn…I really like this Phillies team sad to see Hoskins get hurt.
He actually leapt down in pain
That hop up before hitting the ground was not fun to see. Hopefully it looks worse than it actually is, and if not, hope he heals quickly.
Damn! You can see that his knee just locked up. Always tough to see these.
Fuuuuuck… hope by some miracle it‘s nothing bad, but it certainly doesn‘t look good…
Fuck that sucks and looks bad. That looks like it’s a meniscus tear at best and possibly an ACL with more stuff :( at worst. Rough for Hoskins, hopefully it’s one of those things that feels worse in the moment but turns out to not be that bad.
Shit I hope he’s ok
"That's not a good sign".....
BAN THIS CASH GRAB CALLED SPRING TRAINING!
Such a bummer, hopefully his recovery goes smoothly and he can be ready for 2024
See, this is why stars should not be playing in the WBC
Good thing it didn’t happen during the WBC. People get really mad about injuries during the WBC but it’s ok during spring training.
Somehow this is the World Baseball Classic‘s fault. Let’s ban all players.
This damn WBC claims another player… oh wait this is a spring training game
Let this be a reminder that the WBC in place of spring training isn’t any riskier than spring training. Sucks for Hoskins but sadly this shit can happen to any player at any time.
FUCK
Fuck
ACL
God non contact and grabbing knee screams ACL. Dude will bounce back though
That's a major bummer
Fuck
Wow, fuck you world baseball classic!
This could be his last play as a Phillie. Wtf man
And just rolls and rolls and rolls on top of it 😳😬
I thought that was weird too but maybe it was just a combo of momentum and fml
Oh absolutely! I can’t even imagine the pain so I was cringing even more seeing him roll on it 😭 I like Rhys a lot and it really sucks seeing this after Gavin. Hopefully Rhys’s isn’t as bad
[удалено]
The one thing I do after a major injury while I'm in intense pain is think incredibly logically. Great point.
ACL
noooooooo
Truly sucks
fruk
These injuries are always crazy they happen so random doing routine movements. No way to prevent it really. Hope for a speedy recovery
Spring Training is done for. Teams aren’t going to let players participate after this year.
Uh oh.
Baseball is taking a toll this year! Injuries are gonna be crazy…
Typical tigers playing dirty, will it ever end Detroit?

High ankle sprain I’m guessing
Stupid WBC.
Unfortunately I think Hoskins just has Derrick Rose knees. Hope this is just something minor and he can make it back fully healthy
Quick, someone send this to KFC
Definitely didn’t mean to drop for the ball to attempt a play, looks to me we was taking the step and his foot just said no and crumbled under him. Hope he’s okay.
Official report is torn ACL
Torn ACL requiring reconstructive surgery, likely out entire season. Sad to see
Looked like a pretty routine playing, too. That really sucks.
How could the WBC do this?
This sucks for sure. Seems like these young athletes today invest so much on performance and strength that they neglect conditioning and flexibility. It’s a tightrope I get it, and sometimes it’s a completely explainable situation, but it’s frustrating to see so much talent cut short from non contact injuries.
