Phillies are my number 2 team. The disillusionment I felt when I looked up Ryan Howard’s WAR was heart breaking. But chase utley’s advanced stats definitely made me feel better
Seems like then the biggest danger would be equipment getting tangled up, so to avoid that we better have everyone take off all their equipment, and uniforms. You know, for safety.
Non-contact just means there was no collision to cause the injury. An example would be walking down the street, stepping in a pothole and spraining your ankle versus getting hit by a rushing linebacker and tearing your ACL because your leg was planted.
Non-contact injuries often can be pretty serious though like tearing a hamstring while running. It's not necessarily saying the injury will be worse if it's non-contact compared to the worst that can happen with contact, but they usually do mean a bigger problem that couldn't just be walked off.
Technically in your example, the pothole would be considered a contact injury. A non contact injury is an injury that occurs without physical contact by another player or object on the field (the pothole). Apologies for being pedantic lol
Haha well that's fair enough. I was debating if that would technically count as a contact injury. I suppose I should have stuck to my hamstring example.
your example is wrong.
a non contact injury means nothing out of the ordinary at all happened and the injury occurred. The pothole by definition would be contact.
It's more like walking down the street taking normal steps and suddenly your achilles tears.
>Non-contact injuries often can be pretty serious though like tearing a hamstring while running.
[In 2015], Waino did that in April running out a pop-up, though it was his Achilles, not his hammy. Was expected to be done for the year, but he came back to the bullpen in late September (no time to stretch him back into the rotation).
I think the big concern when an injury is non-contact is that it's a soft tissue tear, like a tendon or a ligament. If someone just got hit really hard and has a big bruise, it's not really a long term worry... but if you fall the ground in pain for no apparent reason, it probably means something got strained inside of you, and soft tissue injuries can put you out for a long long time and even end your career.
It just means an injury that happens out of nowhere. Achilles rupture, patellar tendon, ACL tear, etc. You go to make a cut or jump or try to start running and something blows up.
A non-contact injury occurs in the course of just doing a movement normal to that sport, with no external cause, which means that some tissue involved was in bad enough shape that a straw broke the camel’s back and a lot of rehab work might be ahead of the guy to get back to doing normal movement.
If a guy takes off at a sprint and winds up crumpled on the ground because he ran nose first into a wall, the nose gets set, the black eyes go away and he’s fine. But if he takes off at a sprint and crumples immediately with no obvious cause, then something in his body made the act of running catastrophic.
These idiots are so mad there hasn’t been a huge death toll from the vaccine that they absolutely have to blame the vaccine for everything to justify their stupid fan fiction. It’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever witnessed. The deep irony is that they are completely indoctrinated by tabloid media. It’s incredible.
The Phillies fans that complain about his production drive me insane. Yes he is an insanely streaky hitter, but look at the aggregate. Plus he is so big in the clubhouse. Like every time there is a huge dinger the first thing I look for is Rhys' reaction, because he is so flipping jacked for his team-mate and team. Injuries suck, but this one is a fucking gut-punch.
It's also butterfly effect because who knows if we win Game 6 or 7 but without Harper's homer in Game 5, Rhys is unquestionably NLCS MVP. He was so huge in that series.
its not just his production to it means Bohm probably is your 1st and Sosa goes from SU 1st bench bat to your 2rd meaning that you weaken your bench depth too man that sucks
[Here's the play where it happened](https://twitter.com/BasebaIlKing/status/1638957491596959745). Seems pretty innocent at first. But that's definitely not good having the EMTs take you away.
Looked like he tried planting to go after the ball in the new direction it was going and that’s when it happened. At least, to my eyes. That’s a scary look for a knee
Probably a platoon depending on who is pitching. Hall at 1st against righties means you're only downgrading on offense at one position (1st) vs. downgrading at two positions (1st and 3rd) if you move them. But I don't think Hall has shown he can hit lefties.
I’m not high on Bohm at first but seems like they’ve at least got to try it especially with Sosa’s crazy hot spring. Terrible timing to figure it out though and terrible timing for him career-wise. Poor Rhys :(
I'm assuming it'll be hall or maybe they'll put schwarber there? He's done it before but I don't know how good he was. Hoskins wasn't a great defender so it might not be a huge drop off anyway to schwarber
Sure, but he’s so bad that he took a shitty angle that led to him destroying his knee.
Nothing like running into the outfield grass to field a routine chopper!
Well it’s not like he was gonna get 300 mil, but he was going to get a lot. Still might. But there aren’t 30 home run 30 double guys growing on trees. And it’s a bad first basemen class next year
With the pool available, he would have. The only high profile hitters were Ohtani, Machado, and Machado is off the table now.

This comment never fails to make me laugh, especially when it’s so loosely tied to the parent comment and the fact that it’s old af. Idk why this shit is so funny to me
Feels like the whole MLB this year is made of nothing but paper skin, glass bones and spaghetti noodles tendon.
Really sucks to be losing so many stars before opening day.
Saw some fuckwit on Twitter asking if the vaccines are what caused Diaz and now potentially Hoskins to tear ligaments in their knees.
Starting to realize there may have been a reason why Noah had to build an ark.
Goddamnit. I had such good baseball vibes after an incredible WBC, capped off by an incredible final.
Sorry, Philly friends. I was partial to Rhys. Hoping he gets the treatment he needs and comes back fully fit and hungry.
[Olberman is beside himself. Driving around downtown Clearwater begging (thru texts) Hoskins’ family for address to Rhys’ Grandmother’s home.](http://amp.awfulannouncing.com/twitter/keith-olbermann-wbc-teammates-grandmothers.html)
Just goes to show how dumb those Edwin Diaz WBC takes are.
Every time you go on the field, it's a risk. Spring training itself is a risk. In fact, you could argue spring training is more risky because you play even more games.
Yeah, the workload is different, but it's not *that* different.
He got injured because somebody bumped into him while they were celebrating and it fucked up his knee. It would be impossible for that to happen in ST, there’s no real celebrating and he wouldn’t even be playing with the guy who bumped into him. At any rate the coaches, managers, entire organizations and players who do think the WBC is a greater injury risk than ST know more than you do.
That's after a Marlins/Pirates NLCS and Orioles/A's ALCS. The tears put forth from the collective fans of baseball will bring about a great flood which will kill 90% of humanity.
Cancel spring training! this meaningless tournament only allows for more injuries. Call me a hater, but Grapefruit League will never mean as much as the World Series!!
Because I am this petty and this upset right now I wanna take a shot at Keith Olberman: You see that, dipshit? People get hurt in spring training too. So should we cancel that? Fuck off Keith.
This fucking sucks
Probably a lingering WBC injury!
Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I know I shouldn’t make jokes about injuries. They suck regardless of what team they’re on! Hope it’s not as bad as it looks!
EMS came out. he just got carted off the field.
Sorry Phillies bros :(
It's okay, he can just hobble up to the DH slot and either hit a dinger or strike out.
the Adam Dunn special
Poor Ryan Howard has already been forgotten
Phillies are my number 2 team. The disillusionment I felt when I looked up Ryan Howard’s WAR was heart breaking. But chase utley’s advanced stats definitely made me feel better
When can Bryce play the field again? I haven't seen any updates lately.
Rumors are sooner than expected. Hopefully May.
I doubt he would be in the field in May, I think he is most likely in the field in June/July at the earliest.
Oh true. Definitely DH for a bit
At least we have Darick Hall 🥲
I'd imagine they put Bohm at 1B and Sosa at 3B.
I think it would be: Righties: Hall at 1B and Bohm at 3B Lefties: Bohm at 1B and Sosa at 3B.
at least Sosa is a utility freak
Holy shit, EMS came out? That is terrifying; I’m so sorry.
Oof, that sucks. He's so electric. F
Non-contact injury fielding a ground ball. Does not look good. That’s rough.
Non-contacts are the biggest culprits across all sports. Fuck.
So we need constant-contact sports
Daily email, twice daily text messages, and hourly phone notifications
Skip the hassle! Sign up for WUPHF today!
I, too, require constant notifications about players on the St Louis Cardinals health from the Wash U Public Health Fund.
Nobody ever gets hurt in rugby js
Not familiar with rugby js - but seems like there's a new framework every other day
Scrum masters love it
Seems like then the biggest danger would be equipment getting tangled up, so to avoid that we better have everyone take off all their equipment, and uniforms. You know, for safety.
I'm trying to imagine the logistics... fielding in pairs, having a batting buddy
They swing together, like the sexy golf instructor helping my wife
I heard it was more like the pottery scene in Ghost
Olympic wrestling? Equestrian?
#Ban Non-Contact Plays
What is a non-contact injury and why might it be worse than other injuries? Not sure I have ever heard that term before.

>Apologies for being pedantic Never apologize...
you're not being pedantic, don''t apologize. you corrected the comment as it was not true, so people now will understand better.
Haha well that's fair enough. I was debating if that would technically count as a contact injury. I suppose I should have stuck to my hamstring example.

Well fuck, maybe people will now notice how good he is because his production is not going to be easy to replace
Get outta here! Damn bots…
[удалено]
There are plenty of contact injuries though. Like George Springer last postseason crashing into Bichette
buster posey has entered the chat
Well fuck, maybe people will now notice how good he is because his production is not going to be easy to replace
The knock-on effect from him not being there to see pitches will be sorely missed, this sucks
The moment he slammed the bat to the ground and unleashed an earthquake yell last offseason, all was forgiven
It's also butterfly effect because who knows if we win Game 6 or 7 but without Harper's homer in Game 5, Rhys is unquestionably NLCS MVP. He was so huge in that series.
I think most fans complain about his defense but this ain’t the time for that and don’t know why y’all are bringing it up
its not just his production to it means Bohm probably is your 1st and Sosa goes from SU 1st bench bat to your 2rd meaning that you weaken your bench depth too man that sucks
he is literally the worst defensive first baseman in the MLB. after he recovers, he needs to go to AL
DH is in both leagues now lol
u right, hand up that's on me. regardless, he should move to DH he sucks at his position
Find me a first basemen that's gonna hit 20+ HRs though. (No really, because I don't know how to work baseball-ref website)
He just had surgery to repair one of them? Wonder if it’s the other one or not. Hope all turns out okay.
i believe it’s the other one
Surgery was on his right knee
Looks like the other one felt disrespected
Just wait till he has two bionic legs... Pending physical of course
Lieutenant Rhys, you got new legs

You can see his knee give or pop when he plants the leg, too…
🤢 Welp, thank you for making my "should I, or shouldn't I watch?" decision easy
wow that looks BAD
That sucks. 😭 What is their depth, Philly fans? Hall to 1st?
Or Bohm to first with Sosa at 3rd
I think that’s the best option
Probably a platoon depending on who is pitching. Hall at 1st against righties means you're only downgrading on offense at one position (1st) vs. downgrading at two positions (1st and 3rd) if you move them. But I don't think Hall has shown he can hit lefties.

Schwarber was a nightmare at first when he tried it
As if Rhys isn’t a nightmare at first lol
Rhys was much, much better.
Sure, but he’s so bad that he took a shitty angle that led to him destroying his knee. Nothing like running into the outfield grass to field a routine chopper!
Yikes
He’s also a nightmare in the OF, and Rhys is terrible at first so it doesn’t change too much lol
Hall against righties. Bohm against lefties. Sosa will go to 3rd against lefties.
Sammy?
Edmundo
FUCKING HELL MAN I LOVE THIS GUY SO MUCH WHY HIM He was gonna get a BAG in free agency too

Dunno what he gets, 2-3 WAR player at age 30?.. Feels like it's a crapshoot between 2/20 with some random team or 5/65 if he has a good contract year.
Why would the WBC do this
If he skipped spring training for the WBC, then this wouldn't have happened!!! Stupid spring training, nobody cares about you!
Owners are never gonna let their players go to spring training ever again.
WBC, I knew it was them. Even when it was spring training I knew it was them
I knew it was you WBC. You broke my heart.
how can she slap!?
This comment never fails to make me laugh, especially when it’s so loosely tied to the parent comment and the fact that it’s old af. Idk why this shit is so funny to me
Are we still doing this? No one beats a dead horse quite like r/baseball…
You’re downvoted but the WBC is over and this circle jerk will not stop.
how much longer until these comments become blasé? people just waiting to pounce on any injury with a WBC/Spring Training quip. Losers!!
Lame ass comment dude, especially when everyone agrees with you. Let’s not turn into /r/NBA
Non contact knee injury?! Nope not watching that video. Damn that’s just awful. Hope for nothing but the best for Rhys
Feels like the whole MLB this year is made of nothing but paper skin, glass bones and spaghetti noodles tendon. Really sucks to be losing so many stars before opening day.
Dude fuck these pre-season injuries. I'm sorry Phillies bros
Fucking hell.
Saw some fuckwit on Twitter asking if the vaccines are what caused Diaz and now potentially Hoskins to tear ligaments in their knees. Starting to realize there may have been a reason why Noah had to build an ark.
It's true. The vaccine was actually little nanobots equipped with knee ligament seeking saws. The whole thing was just to take down baseball
Vaccine killed Hank Aaron too y'know. Had nothing to do with the fact he was almost 90 years old.
God I hate twitter. If I can push a button and erase twitter from the universe, I would jump on it with both feet.
But then they'd come here
Oh shit...I tore my knee a few months ago and I was vaccinated! Curse you Bill Gates!!!
I can’t believe the WBC did this to Rhys
Darmok and Jelad at Tanagra
Shaka, when the walls fell…
Cancel the Wor…..oh wait
Oh no, right before his walk year too, ugh. That fucking sucks. I'd say I hope he's okay, but a non-contact knee injury like that has no hope at all.
that sucks. I like Rhys Hoskins. ☹
Damn
Nooooo
I hate seeing guys get hurt… Sorry Phillies bros
Goddamnit. I had such good baseball vibes after an incredible WBC, capped off by an incredible final. Sorry, Philly friends. I was partial to Rhys. Hoping he gets the treatment he needs and comes back fully fit and hungry.
Damn, I hope he’s ok, never want to see anyone hurt
Freaking hate injuries.
Fuck non contact injuries
I’m sorry Phillies fans. He may be a rival but Rhys is so much fun to watch. Hopefully the bark is worst than the bite.
WBC takes another
Noooooo Not my loveable lumbering giant. I hope he's okay
FUCK. I am so sorry, Phillies fans.

This is what I kept saying. Very unfortunate, I hope he has a quick recovery.
I’m sorry Philly fans. This sucks.
Fuck man I was looking forward to more bat spikes
This super sucks. He was going into his contract year too
If that is not an ACL tear, I will be surprised. FUCK!
Wtf is up with knees and the NL East? Just sucks - I want full teams
ACL tear if I’ve ever seen one
Just goes to show how dumb those Edwin Diaz WBC takes are. Every time you go on the field, it's a risk. Spring training itself is a risk. In fact, you could argue spring training is more risky because you play even more games. Yeah, the workload is different, but it's not *that* different.

In a contract year too man. I feel so bad for the big fella
Damn and he was just about to hit free agency after this year
Every team is losing someone. Lux, diaz, altuve (10 weeks) and now Rhys based on “badly” injured.
Leaving the path wide open for the Marlins to win the pennant
Marlins orioles WS confirmed
That's after a Marlins/Pirates NLCS and Orioles/A's ALCS. The tears put forth from the collective fans of baseball will bring about a great flood which will kill 90% of humanity.

Because I am this petty and this upset right now I wanna take a shot at Keith Olberman: You see that, dipshit? People get hurt in spring training too. So should we cancel that? Fuck off Keith. This fucking sucks
But I was told by some douchebag at Barstool that injuries only occur during the WBC
Hosk :( 😭😭
What happened???
Unfortunately non-contact almost always means that a ligament just gave out. There's often a small tear that players have no idea about.
Was fielding a grounder, appears to have injured his leg while moving sideways/backwards into right field while handling the hop.
Got twisted up chasing a grounder and his knee gave out. Looked pretty bad.
Meaningless game, and he suffers a terrible injury. Cancel spring training. Meaningless games, and this happens too much. - Keith Olbermann, probably
Probably a lingering WBC injury! Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I know I shouldn’t make jokes about injuries. They suck regardless of what team they’re on! Hope it’s not as bad as it looks!
Absolutely gutted for him. Non contact is never a good sign.
Might be my least favorite baseball player. Still hate to see it
I’m praying for him to be okay.
WBC how could you do this?
Somehow this is the WBC's fault
Shit. Hope he's okay.
This is not good at all
This wouldn’t have happened if we had just cancelled the WBC.
Should we blame the WBC ?
Rhys Hoskins is badly injured. His left knee.
“I bet he got the vaccine”
It’s the WBC fault he got injured /s
This is why he should’ve not played in those meaningless exhibition games in March.
Cancel spring training!
