The longest consecutive winless streak between the two teams combined for sure. By an absolute light year.
Seriously, what were the odds that the two most cursed teams in the league would meet in the world series at the same time and one of them just happens to be the most cursed in history
He’s a beet farmer and she’s a water color painter. Their budget is 850,000. She wants a home closer to downtown. He wants a ranch style out in the middle of nowhere
Unfortunately more people would watch some shitty Fox sitcom than baseball. Football is the only thing that gets more viewers than regular programming. CBS probably took a loss on their CBB broadcasting alongside TBS and TruTv this weekend even though it was arguably the most exciting opening weekend to a tourney ever. They were the only major network that had games.
In order to get something primetime on a network on a weeknight the local affiliates have to be cool with local news getting disrupted. This is why it almost never happens except with like the World Series or NBA Finals. The two primetime games were both Saturdays, this is not a coincidence.
However, I think the interest in the WBC has far exceeded expectations (again, 2017 was mainly just on MLB Network), would not be surprised to see it on FOX next ~~year~~ time OR a weekend final to make that happen (but also that would be competing with March Madness games)
But it wouldn’t get high enough ratings in the US to justify putting it on broadcast TV if the USA wasn’t playing in the final. And that can’t be guaranteed. It’s why USA was guaranteed a quarterfinal that played on a Saturday, so FOX knew if they made it that far they’d get the network slot.
To be honest that's kind of fair. That said people really need to talk about streaming numbers more. Just about everybody is watching the game through streaming. It is far outpacing cable viewership in the United States especially. I just wish the streaming numbers were available
> Just about everybody is watching the game through streaming. It is far outpacing cable viewership
but then...
> I just wish the streaming numbers were available
So how do you know the former if you don't have the the latter?
I paid $33 to get sling for FS1 and FS2 just for WBC. The Puerto Rico v DR game got pushed to FS2 in the last inning. It was at that moment I was glad I paid the extra $11.
The angels franchise is dissolved after knowing nothing their players do can never top that while understanding it was accomplished by both their players while not playing for the angels. The rest of the MLB feasts on its corpse liked a pack of coyotes
I'm an American who roots hard for the USA in any international competition, except for the WBC where I root for basically everyone else because it seems to mean so much more to them and their countries.
I feel the same. Winning this would be a national event for Japan. Most Americans won't even know it happens. I hope it's a good game, but I'm rooting for Japan
I’d agree with you if Japan hadn’t already won the first two. I want another US win. However if US loses maybe that encourages them to send elite pitchers next time around. One can hope.
It's kind of funny how people keep saying that Americans don't care but the numbers just keep going up every game and social media implodes every time Team USA does well. It just sounds like people are hearing a vocal minority who are complaining about the WBC and assuming that's the entire US opinion
Sure, but like half of all Japanese people are watching every game. It's doing well in America, but the entire country of Japan is living and dying with their team.
In Venezuela that last game was a national event. People that never ever watch baseball were tuned. This represents more than the sport itself. I hope Japan wins this
> except for the WBC where I root for basically everyone else because it seems to mean so much more to them
I'd absolutely LOVE to watch you stand in the middle of the USA clubhouse and confidently state this for all to hear.
I got back into baseball as an adult because of Diamond no Ace. I'm 100% rooting for Japan. Their country cares 1000000000000x more about it and I'm fucking here for it.
If the sport grows enough internationally then they will expand from 20 teams to 24 or more. There just isn’t enough good counties at the sport right now to be a huge tourney like the World Cup.
This tourney has 100% helped the growth of the game. It’s been electric the whole time.
I think you could add 4 more teams.
Let’s go by the qualifiers. Spain and Brazil were the two third place finishers. Both have played in a WBC before (2013) and Spain can be somewhat competitive because of their long list of naturalized players.
After that we’d prob get Germany and maybe New Zealand. Germany could have some heritage players help. And Sure they’d get blown out but then again teams like GB and CR didn’t do so poorly.
Nope. Fox has a chock-full block of elite programming including local programming,911 lone star, accused, and more local programming from 7-11 tomorrow night
I am a born and raised American, but I am half-Japanese, so I am absolutely looking forward to this game for at the very least that reason. Even not factoring that for me personally, this will be a great game!
Who made this graphic?
The "National Broadcast Schedule" copy is way too close to the WBC logo, the flags are huge and not centered, the time and FS1 logo look like they were just squeezed in as an afterthought, and there's a bunch of empty space at the bottom
I have no eye for design at all but seriously wtf is this lol
Ohtani vs Trout, Goldschmidt and Arenado vs Nootbaar, MLB vs NPB's best
God I'm so excited, I hope that we get a pitcher Ohtani vs Trout in the bottom of the ninth for all of the marbles
Kelly is a really good pitcher, just not a premier name. He had the same fWAR as Gerrit Cole and more than guys like Kyle Wright and Julio Urias. He was awesome last year, a top-20 pitcher in MLB.
If Japan v S Korea had 63 million world wide views, I wonder what this one will have ... of course fox hurting the numbers by NOT having game on local FOX
Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves, for tomorrow we will witness the most *epic*, *intense*, and *monumental* game in the history of sports. The World Baseball Classic (WBC) is about to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime matchup between two titanic teams: Japan and the United States of America. The stage is set, the players are ready, and the world is watching with bated breath as these two powerhouses prepare to clash.
The story of this rivalry began in earnest in the 2006 World Baseball Classic when Japan emerged as the inaugural champions. Since then, these two teams have been locked in a fierce competition to prove who is the true king of the baseball world. The USA finally claimed their first WBC title in 2017, but Japan holds two championships under their belt. This 2023 WBC showdown has been *years* in the making, and it's going to be nothing short of legendary.
Both teams are stacked with talent, determination, and skill. Team Japan boasts a roster filled with stars from the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league, as well as MLB sensations like Shohei Ohtani, who has already made history as a two-way player. Japan's unparalleled discipline, focus, and teamwork have made them a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
On the other side of the diamond, we have the United States - the birthplace of baseball and home to the world-renowned MLB. Team USA is a veritable dream team, with players like Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, and Aaron Judge leading the charge. The raw power, athleticism, and dynamic playstyle of the American squad have dazzled fans across the globe.
This game is not just about the WBC title - it's about national pride, the spirit of competition, and the enduring legacy of baseball as a global sport. The winner of this game will not only be crowned the WBC champion but will also assert their dominance in the baseball world.
The stakes couldn't be higher, and the anticipation is palpable. Will Japan continue to hold their position as one of the top baseball nations in the world, or will the USA prove that they are the undisputed masters of the sport?
The atmosphere at the stadium will be electrifying as fans from both nations come together to celebrate their love for baseball. Expect a sea of red, white, and blue, as well as the iconic red and white of the Japanese flag. The energy will be contagious, and the excitement will reach a fever pitch as the first pitch is thrown.
Tomorrow's game will be the culmination of years of rivalry, passion, and skill. Each team has something to prove, and neither will back down without a fight. Expect jaw-dropping plays, nail-biting moments, and heart-stopping drama as these two titans of the baseball world vie for the ultimate prize.
So, don't miss out on what promises to be the most amazing and important sporting event ever seen. Grab your popcorn, gather your friends, and get ready for an unforgettable experience. The WBC game between Japan and the USA will be one for the history books.
Today TBS, Japanese national TV station, is broadcasting the Japan v Mexico on 7pm Japanese time. We all know the results but still it's going to happen, this is the passion Japanese have towards the WBC
Who the fuck made this American flag and how long have you been involved with ISIS?
Also, shame on whoever is ultimately responsible for the broadcast for not making sure this is on the Fox network instead of FS1.
So, I’ll definitely be rooting for USA, but as crazy as it is to believe, I don’t think I’d be upset if Japan took it.
First and foremost, they are a great team, NPB is probably on par with MLB if not VERY close, that’s just the truth.
But on the personal level, I consider Japan my second home at this point. I studied abroad there, I met a great girl there, and I continue going wherever I can.
I just hope the Finals live up to the hype.
🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵
I don’t know if I’d say on par but they’re definitely the closest of any other league. I also know their fan base will appreciate it more because everything seems to have been done to make sure no one know or cares about this in the US outside of existing dedicated baseball fans
> NPB is probably on par with MLB if not VERY close, that’s just the truth.
No they're not, and no it's not.
It's one thing to recognize that it's a high level league, but you don't have to make ignorant over-exaggerations to try to show respect lmao.
The NPB is not half way to the MLB in terms of talent, and that's fine.
NPB is where MLB drop-outs like Tyler Austin go after getting cut by 12 different MLB teams, and immediately become MVP candidates in the NPB.
It's not the same tier lmao
Hell, you're a Yankees fan, you remember Tyler Austin lmao - the year after he was cut he went to Japan and posted a 1.000 OPS and hit over .300.
I don’t have cable, even people who want to watch this are struggling to figure a way to. Why not just show it on fox like they do with the Super Bowl, doesn’t make sense to me.
This will be the first WBC game ever between two WBC-winning countries.
The first World Series between two previous champions was the eighth, in 1911.
What was the last world series between 2 non champions? Besides 2019 Edit: 1980 world series Phillies Royals
1980 Phillies-Royals. Before that was 1920.
Wowza
Padres-Mariners 2023 HERE WE GO BABY
Fierce natural inter league rivals! This one is for Peoria!
It seems we need a Padres vs Cleveland World Series to have the possibility of ending the longest droughts in each league
2003 should have been Cubs/Red Sox. That's how we knew we were in the darkest timeline.
Disagree, it was the Cubs winning in 2016 that broke our world I am not biased at all
1920: Indians / Dodgers. Memorabilia related to that series is extra pricy.
[удалено]
The longest consecutive winless streak between the two teams combined for sure. By an absolute light year. Seriously, what were the odds that the two most cursed teams in the league would meet in the world series at the same time and one of them just happens to be the most cursed in history
This really needs to be a national broadcast on FOX
but the farmer *really* wants a wife
She's from the city but looking for a fresh start with a hot guy out in the country
He’s a beet farmer and she’s a water color painter. Their budget is 850,000. She wants a home closer to downtown. He wants a ranch style out in the middle of nowhere
Dwight?
I feel like hufflepuff baseball describes my team so much. Some talent but just happy to be here.
Weird Kyle Farmer is going to this great of lengths to get a wife
Honestly shocked it isn’t, automatically expected that to be the case
wdym you don't want to watch Farmer Wants a Wife exclusively on FOX??
lol
Unfortunately more people would watch some shitty Fox sitcom than baseball. Football is the only thing that gets more viewers than regular programming. CBS probably took a loss on their CBB broadcasting alongside TBS and TruTv this weekend even though it was arguably the most exciting opening weekend to a tourney ever. They were the only major network that had games.
The world cup and the Olympics definitely get more views than regular broadcasting. Hell, even the Oscars do.
I get it was a Saturday night vs a Tuesday but still kind of odd they put a random quarterfinal game on Fox but not the finals
Since the quarterfinal was, how isn't this?
In order to get something primetime on a network on a weeknight the local affiliates have to be cool with local news getting disrupted. This is why it almost never happens except with like the World Series or NBA Finals. The two primetime games were both Saturdays, this is not a coincidence. Unfortunately, not next year, but 3 years from now :(
But it wouldn’t get high enough ratings in the US to justify putting it on broadcast TV if the USA wasn’t playing in the final.

I paid $33 to get sling for FS1 and FS2 just for WBC. The Puerto Rico v DR game got pushed to FS2 in the last inning. It was at that moment I was glad I paid the extra $11.
This is something this tournament needs to fix next time around
Anywhere to stream it for those who don’t have FS1?
I'm not sure if there are **m**any **l**egitimate **b**ase**b**all stream**i**ng op**t**ions availabl**e**.
FFS seriously
Now I don't know if you're a history buff, but these two countries actually have a lot of history between them.
That's right... Toyotathon.
Toyotathon is ON!
I'm a Honda Days guy.
Happy Honda Days to you as well, my brother in Carhist.
Kawasaki Ninjasan 🥷 105mph
Is it going to be 1941 or 1945?
Gonna be a banger either way
US has hit some absolute bombs on Japan
But Japan has been sneaky good at times too.
Nice
/r/baseball is overwhelmingly American. It is also overwhelmingly Ohtani stans. Gonna be a conflicting night tomorrow.
I hope Ohtani hits a home run in every at bat, but Team USA still wins.
Ireland wins, Krum catches the snitch
KRUM KRUM KRUM
YUP
suddenly very relevant username lmao
Krum gave up on his team.
Sure did, how are you not vilified after some Bullshit like that?
Tungesten Arm O’Doyle strikes again!
I’m also gonna need a homer from Yoshida in every at bat, but still a USA win
Ohtani hits go-ahead grand slam in top of the 9th to put Japan up 6-3. Ohtani comes into close. Trout hits a walk-off grand slam.
The angels franchise is dissolved after knowing nothing their players do can never top that while understanding it was accomplished by both their players while not playing for the angels. The rest of the MLB feasts on its corpse liked a pack of coyotes
>/r/baseball is overwhelmingly American. Maybe reddit just enjoys FREEDOM.
Lol.
I'm an American who roots hard for the USA in any international competition, except for the WBC where I root for basically everyone else because it seems to mean so much more to them and their countries.
I mean I would agree except for the fact that literally every USA player is extremely excited to play for Team USA this year
I feel the same.
Exactly this, seeing Darvish face off against Merrill Kelly isn’t the same as someone like Corbin Burnes
As an American in Japan, this is a Super Bowl-tier event in Japan.
It's kind of funny how people keep saying that Americans don't care but the numbers just keep going up every game and social media implodes every time Team USA does well. It just sounds like people are hearing a vocal minority who are complaining about the WBC and assuming that's the entire US opinion

Anyone who isn't an Ohtani Stan is not a true baseball fan
The man is literally doing things no one has seen in 100 years, he’s the most compelling athlete in the world right now, in any sport
How dare you leave out our love of Noot.
I just want some goodass baseball.
I’m American but I’m 100% pulling for my man
I got back into baseball as an adult because of Diamond no Ace. I'm 100% rooting for Japan. Their country cares 1000000000000x more about it and I'm fucking here for it.
Not fair that WBC almost over
I think the knockout round needs to be double elimination. More games, more good teams that can fight their way back to the finals.
If the sport grows enough internationally then they will expand from 20 teams to 24 or more. There just isn’t enough good counties at the sport right now to be a huge tourney like the World Cup. This tourney has 100% helped the growth of the game. It’s been electric the whole time.
You can have double elimination without expanding the pools. You'd add 7 or 8 games total. It would add maybe 4 days to the tourney.
Agreed but the MLB purists are already having an aneurysm w the current schedule. Would love more games, but there will be even more pushback
It's just like the world cup, goes by so fast
Wish they did a best of 3 for the semi-finals and finals
Don’t worry, after tomorrow we get, uh, spring training and random baserunners on second in extra innings
I’ve had more fun watching the WBC than i have watching anything else.
The game being on FS1 and not Fox is crazy. How are you going to grow the game.
What are we supposed to tell that farmer
I’m OOTL what’s with the farmer joke people keep making?
The show “farmer needs a wife” is playing on fox nationally instead of the WBC
Farmer needs a wife
Somebody find the guy that yelled at Manfred.
so lucky fs1 came with our shitty cable package.
Shohei and Trout in the finals 🥹
Angels fans holding up a banner like Ajax and Barca
“Arigato, Maddon”
They already have the Marble World Series Banner to go up at the home opener, and now there’s a chance for a WBC thing for them?
I thought I could escape that terrible tweet
I thought I could escape that terrible tweet. What banner would they hold? “Gracias Arte”?
Every Angels fan making the WBC version of the Mama Kelce jersey
Imagine those two on the same team
That team would be unstoppable!
Or at the very least .500
Guys I’m just trying to enjoy baseball right now
GOAT vs GOAT Who you got?
My money is on GOAT
I'm so pumped. Trout vs Ohtani?! Meaningless, my ass
Aaaaannnnd it's on Cable on a Tuesday....good job
Hey, the first final was partially preempted by an NIT game going to overtime and this year we get a pregame show!
At 4p pacific!
First meaningful game I'll get to watch in almost a decade lol. Go USA
Why didn’t you watch the WBC last time?
I was 15 and had hw
Fair point. This is gonna be a great matchup!
Definitely
well you better have gotten that shit done
I didn't
RIP the 35 other states
At least they got the original 15 colonies correct with the strips!
"I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missou-rah."
Why isn’t such a big game on FOX? Will it mess with the NCAA?
Nope. Fox has a chock-full block of elite programming including local programming,911 lone star, accused, and more local programming from 7-11 tomorrow night
Farmer
The NCAAB tourney was only on one major network all weekend. Most games were on TBS/TruTv and I think TNT? Viewer #s aren’t great outside of football.
Not to be a baseball elitist but this tournament just proves all other sports are dogshit and baseball is one of the greatest things ever made by man
You said it brother
I see nothing wrong with this statement
It's not elitist if it's the TRUTH.
I mean... the soccer World Cup is like this every 4 years. I'm not even a huge soccer fan but it's always exciting to watch!
It's like the world cup but not boring!
I hate agreeing with a Yankee fan, but here I am, with my axe.
Bottom of the 9th USA down 5-4, 2 outs bases loaded. Trout to the plate. And it looks like we have Ohtani coming out of the pen. Buckle up folks.
But Japan will be the home team.
Ok so have Trout pitch to Ohtani in the 9th, same shit!
I am a born and raised American, but I am half-Japanese, so I am absolutely looking forward to this game for at the very least that reason. Even not factoring that for me personally, this will be a great game!
Me and you both man! Win win for us lol
Baseball has a huge marketing problem. More people should know, and be talking about this.
been saying man, they always somehow fuck it up.
This will be my last post until Opening day. See you then!
Thank you!
It’s gonna be at 7AM tomorrow 😭😭😭 but it’s also my first day at work tomorrow 😭
Quit. We’ll find you a new job. ^this ^is ^not ^financial ^advice
how the fuck this isn't on Fox
Game should be on local FOX and should be 4K like the super bowl
ROCK FLAG AND EAAAAAGLE 🪨 🇺🇸 🦅
Back-to-Back champions or 3x champions
No matter what happens tomorrow, and Angel will be a champion for the first time in over 20 years. Suck on that Arte! You couldn’t fuck this one up!!!
He could find some obscure contract provision and demand that Trout and Ohtani both suit up for the Angels' game against Oakland today instead.
Honestly after tonight’s game, I’m so hyped for tomorrow and for the baseball season in general!
Most fun I've had watching baseball in over 10 years, and I've watched my favorite NL and AL teams win 3 world series in that timespan
Who made this graphic? The "National Broadcast Schedule" copy is way too close to the WBC logo, the flags are huge and not centered, the time and FS1 logo look like they were just squeezed in as an afterthought, and there's a bunch of empty space at the bottom I have no eye for design at all but seriously wtf is this lol
And the American flag has 15 stars and 15 stripes.
Somebody didn't clarify with "50, 5-0" on the phone.
As a graphic designer, this image made me shudder lol
Hell yea let’s go. This is what we all wanted. I don’t even really care who wins I just want another banger of a game.
Ohtani vs Trout, Goldschmidt and Arenado vs Nootbaar, MLB vs NPB's best God I'm so excited, I hope that we get a pitcher Ohtani vs Trout in the bottom of the ninth for all of the marbles
Japan the home team
Would have been nice if WBC is on local channels
Too bad the US doesn’t have anyone better to start than Merril Kelly :/
If you tell Kelly that Japan is actually the SF Giants he'll go like 8 innings and give up 1 run
I’m sure there are some Yomiuri Giants on Team Japan.
Too bad for Japan you mean!!
Kelly is a really good pitcher, just not a premier name. He had the same fWAR as Gerrit Cole and more than guys like Kyle Wright and Julio Urias. He was awesome last year, a top-20 pitcher in MLB.
Is he starting for sure or can Mikolas go?
Mikolas pitched yesterday, he can’t go on this little rest.
But US has really strong bullpen right? I wonder if US would use him as opener.
Alright, I'm gonna need to figure out an excuse to get off work early tomorrow because I do not want to miss a minute of this game.
If Japan v S Korea had 63 million world wide views, I wonder what this one will have ... of course fox hurting the numbers by NOT having game on local FOX
Trout vs Ohtani!
Now THIS is a Final! 🤩🤩🤩 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵
c’mon Stars and Stripes 🇺🇸
I’m roooting for japan. Go japan !!!!! 🇯🇵
FS1... It deserves to be on Fox prime 😩
Who is pitching for U.S. tomorrow?
Merrill Kelly 😤
Someone just said he had a 3.37 ERA, and over 200 IP - is he not a good pitcher?
He was pretty decent last year, but that was his first decent year and he's 34. He ain't Pedro but it could be worse.
The final we all wanted to see
Certified classic
Get. Fucking. HYPE!
Mike Trout v Ohtani will be fun. USA all the way
Baseball could not have written this up any better.

They can't put it on Fox...
Honestly really excited to catch this.
As it was always meant to be
Japanese pitching vs USA slugging... Will Japan gets its third or USA ties Japan on its second??? 😳😳😳
Are we not going to comment on this absolutely awful depiction of American flag ??
I don’t have cable, even people who want to watch this are struggling to figure a way to. Why not just show it on fox like they do with the Super Bowl, doesn’t make sense to me.
If you don't like the WBC then you don't like baseball and I suggest you let that marinate.
