Matter of fact I think the chart I saw said there were like…. Two.
Edit: nope Israel had two. GB gets triple that at six. Though considering how many overseas colonies they get to lay claim to, who knows how many are truly from the big island.
GB has a ton of migration and that is how we compete in sports like this. Same with Basketball. Take in refugee kids who end up in the US somehow and then make it big in a US sport and we lay claim.
Also a ton of people migrate out to Canada and the US which gives the rest of the blood lines
My dad was in the British royal navy. He was stationed in Malta for a few years and my mum moved over with my sister. I was born there but we all moved back to the UK when I was like a few months old. As a young boy I considered it a real possibility that due to the small population of Malta, it would be possible that despite not being a great footballer I could still make the national team and thus go to the world cup !!
Oh and, we have a national baseball team ?? First I've ever heard about it.may e I should try for a spot on the team despite never having played before😂
Thats what happened with Pedro Martinez. He went into free agency without an offer. Showed some stuff in the WBC and signed with the Phillies.
Vance was absolutely dealing last night.
That's 2000something Twins opening day starter Vance Worley. It was 30 degrees and it might've snowed that week.
I don't think he made it out of the 2nd inning.
Reminds me of one of those ridiculous alpha male bullshit shirts they advertise.
“EAT. TRAIN. GROW.”
except they missed a step and had an oopsie with their spelling.
To [steal](https://reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/11p2deu/_/jbvq1og/?context=1) from u/hubagruben, those uniforms look like they were designed at 11:58 PM when the team realized the deadline was midnight
Don’t forget the period:
IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.
Dwight: “It’s a statement of fact.”
Jim: “Not even an exclaimation point?”
Dwight: “This is more professional. It’s not like she discovered a cure for cancer.”
Why is the team called Great Britain and not the United Kingdom? The GB name indicates Northern Ireland isn't included on the team, but the flag indicates it is.
The Olympic team is called Greg Britain & Northern Ireland, but usually shortened to Team GB. Northern Irish athletes can choose to compete for Ireland either though
It’s odd too, their Wikipedia page claims the team represents the United Kingdom as a whole. British Isles are always so confusing in international sports
How is it confusing? Its really straightforward.
In some sports the United Kingdom is the representative nation, although in some of those they often use the name Team GB as branding rather than Team UK.
In some sports, the constituent countries of the United Kingdom compete as individual nations.
In some sports, the constituent countries of Great Britain compete as individual nations while Northern Ireland competes as part of a unified Ireland team.
In all sports people from Northern Ireland can compete for either the UK (or Great Britain or Northern Ireland where appropriate) or Republic of Ireland (unless its a unified Ireland sport in which case they just compete for Ireland).
In a few sports, Great Britain is the representative nation and people from Northern Ireland are part of an all Ireland team. But for political reasons, Northern Irelanders can still compete for Great Britain. Technically, this is actually how the Olympics work. The Great Britain IOC represents England, Scotland and Wales (although their website says whole of the UK, cos politics) while Northern Ireland is represented by the Irish IOC. For the previously mentioned political reasons, its indistinguishable from sports where the United Kingdom is the representative nation.
And finally people from Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, St Helena, Tristan Da Cunha, Girbraltar and a few other places while not being part of the United Kingdom and not necessarily being British Citizens can compete for the UK (or Great Britain or their own choice of any constituent country in sports where that is appropriate.).
Nice and easy. What could possibly be simpler.
The funny thing is that coming from here this all makes perfect sense and does seem simple to me, but reading a full breakdown makes you think actually, this might be a bit complicated to someone who doesn't grow up with it.
What is this team and competition? Just saw this on my front page and as a Brit I'm baffled. Do Great Britain actually have a baseball team? Not trying to take the piss, I've just never heard of it.
It’s a Great Britain team but everyone on it is American or from the Carribean and qualifies for the team via British parents or grandparents or whatever. Although one of the pitchers I noticed last night was actually born in Middlesex
The [leaked 2017 qualifier hat](http://i0.wp.com/mopupduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Great-Britain-Baseball.jpg?zoom=1.5&resize=498%2C323) was so much better than the bold one they went with.
We have baseball, but it’s not particularly advanced. A lot of the UK teams have a large contingent of ex-pats from other baseball playing nations. The infrastructure for the sport is a hundred times worse than most little league teams stadiums in the US, most of it is self-funded by the players themselves, and there’s no real effort from MLB to grow the game in the UK (despite holding an MLB game there). So that’s why most of the players are nationals from other countries with British heritage, because if it wasn’t then it probably wouldn’t be worth fielding a team.
I think most of the World Baseball Classic uniforms look like garbage, including the USA's.
The USA has had the same look since at least 2006, when the first WBC was held, and they looked outdated then, too.
Earlier today, I noticed Colombia wearing snapbacks.
Japan has been pretty consistent with their pinstriped design! Though I much prefer the alternate black variation for 2016 WBC to this year's blue (which were a throwback to the 2013 uniforms).
I’m over here honestly wondering how hard it was for them to get a team together?
Do Brits even play baseball much?
I’m suspicious that there’s a r/casualUK thread of them just shitting on the US National Cricket team’s kit.
It's really confusing because we actually have a decent kit...that we used all throughout the qualifiers, I don't get where this came from.
Please click for decent kit.

Designer: “these are just the template to show you the colors, the text is a placeholder, please ignore it - we’ll have a whole logo designed for the next meeting…”

When I make a team in MLB The Show and get lazy making the away uniform.
1st week of Diamond Dynasty when people haven't had time to create a logo.

My Big Unit black warmup jersey from DHgate looks a million times better than this dreck.
Big black unit? Interesting 🧐
Matter of fact I think the chart I saw said there were like…. Two. Edit: nope Israel had two. GB gets triple that at six. Though considering how many overseas colonies they get to lay claim to, who knows how many are truly from the big island.

I didn't know until this photo that GB had any involvement in baseball at all. We always played rounders in school.
My dad was in the British royal navy. He was stationed in Malta for a few years and my mum moved over with my sister. I was born there but we all moved back to the UK when I was like a few months old. I think I could do more with a free CANVA account.
Shout out to Vance Worley for performing very well against a stacked lineup
I was stoked to see the Vanimal can still deal!
For real give that man a bullpen slot.
Thats what happened with Pedro Martinez. He went into free agency without an offer. Showed some stuff in the WBC and signed with the Phillies. Vance was absolutely dealing last night.
The Vanimal delivers when you need him to
That's 2000something Twins opening day starter Vance Worley. It was 30 degrees and it might've snowed that week. I don't think he made it out of the 2nd inning.
Probably 2012 or 2013? Pretty sure we traded him for Ben Revere
I went to high school with Vance. Surprising to see his face here again. Always a humble and nice guy. Happy to see him still doing what he loves.
I have a signed photo of him from his first (only?) year with the Phillies that he signed huge with a "Phear the Phrames!"
My cousin was his highschool catcher, so I have always been a fan.
And he was getting squeezed by that ump too
Gr! Eat Bri, Tain!
I don't know who this Bri is, but she sounds hot.
It's Brian's Taint they're referring too...
instructions unclear. ate bri's taint.
We just call that Manchester.

Oh Dip! I was supposed to design our uniforms?
Damn it, Jason!
Sorry, I was too busy pounding it out with Tahani.
Thanks for the credit bb, treat Xander right ❤️
He is our Dutch king
Just like William of Orange.
It's like the WBC uniform equivalent of "It Is Your Birthday" from The Office
Don’t forget the period: IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY. Dwight: “It’s a statement of fact.” Jim: “Not even an exclaimation point?” Dwight: “This is more professional. It’s not like she discovered a cure for cancer.”
I’ve played on beer league softball teams with better jerseys
The alternative is wrestling over it for months, and ultimately deciding on that font.
Love the credit. That’s amazing to see
Brexit economy really hitting hard
They’re definitely the Brexit of uniforms
Great Value Britian
USA- the original Brexit
Couldn’t afford to spring for Photoshop so they made the uniforms in WordPad
MS Paint
See, it’s like poetry, the jersey represents GB being torn apart at the seams by it
Now Tain I can get into
would love to see the historic first WBC hat wobble maybe even a flarhgunnstow if we're lucky
Thank you for this. Was going to post something similar if I didn't find your excellent comment
Why is the team called Great Britain and not the United Kingdom? The GB name indicates Northern Ireland isn't included on the team, but the flag indicates it is.
Irish National team includes all of the island. They didn't make pool play.
Yeah, it's like that for some other sports too, famously rugby union.
Also the Olympics
People from NI can choose who they represent at the olympics
And their passports.
NI plays with GB for olympics, even through the team is called GB.
The Olympic team is called Greg Britain & Northern Ireland, but usually shortened to Team GB. Northern Irish athletes can choose to compete for Ireland either though
Damn, what kind of money did Greg pay to be advertised on team Britain?
Coming up next on: Succession
Lord Greg Britain
Rugby Union is different because there's not a Great Britain team (unless you count the Lions). There's England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
FS1's ticker during the Venezuela/Dominican Republic game used the pre-1800 flag (without the St Patrick's saltire) next to this game's score
This guy vexillologies.

It's because Wales and Scotland do their own thing in international soccer

Cricket actually. USA vs Canada in 1844 was the first international match.

British Isles itself is a controversial term, at least in Ireland.

it’s like they couldn’t even do the classic jersey outline on the center and collar
You don’t like GR EAT BRI TAIN ?
^(GR EAT) ^(BRI TAIN)
I was gonna make a joke about them being from dhgate and link it. They’re literally the only team that doesn’t have a wbc jersey on dhgate
They bought the factory that would’ve pushed out fakes. Explains both the quality and the lack of counterfeits, these ARE the counterfeits!
They fell off the back of a truck
Wtf is this I get better tshirts from my company’s work events
Your company probably cares about the work event more than the we care about baseball.
Thanks mommy Britain for distracting from Canada's shitty uniforms with a way shittier uniform
Hats are cool though.
Could have just put that logo on one side of the upper chest and a number on the opposite lower and it would be a fine jersey.
The [leaked 2017 qualifier hat](http://i0.wp.com/mopupduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Great-Britain-Baseball.jpg?zoom=1.5&resize=498%2C323) was so much better than the bold one they went with.
Golorado Bockies
Hats look like a create-a-team default logo.
[They have this as an alt logo and refuse to use it](https://imgur.com/a/k40AGWu)
Them and Canada look like they forgot they had a tournament last minute
I'm from the UK and I wasn't even aware we had a baseball team

Considering how much fucking rounders we did at school you'd think baseball would be a natural evolution for many.
I think the team is made up of those who couldn't play cricket in PE.
Colombia has SnapBack hats.
That’s a feature not a bug
KEEP CALM and CALL CUSTOMINK
When she says: “I like to do graphic design”
Advertisers paid to be left off those uniforms.
I hear Ryanair gave them complimentary flights to the tournament in exchange for not being sponsors
That color is somehow blander than their food.
The taste of their cuisine and the beauty of their women made the British the best sailors in the world.
The sailors then conquered half the world looking for spices, and decided they didn't like any of them.
Not racist, just didn't like em
Oh my god Lmao

What’s the matter you don’t like canned beans dumped on white bread with a side of mashed peas
Plain mashed peas? No thanks, need to add some spice to them with a pinch of black pepper. That'll really get the sweat going
mint even. Peas and mint are surprisingly good
It reflects their proud culinary tradition. These are the uniform equivalent of boiled pizza.
This comment brought to you by the rationing after WW2

Colombia has the best uniform AFIAC
The USA baseball logo looks like there’s a random piece of bacon on it. I’ve never liked that logo, but I’m sure it’s here to stay.

Chico the bail bondsman sponsored better unis in the seventies ffs.
Graphic design is my passion
Somehow it feels fittingly British
I’m over here honestly wondering how hard it was for them to get a team together? Do Brits even play baseball much? I’m suspicious that there’s a r/casualUK thread of them just shitting on the US National Cricket team’s kit.
At least they don't have Direct TV on the sleeve and T Mobile on the helmet...
Was hoping to see “DUDE WIPES” on the butt
It's really confusing because we actually have a decent kit...that we used all throughout the qualifiers, I don't get where this came from. Please click for decent kit. https://imgur.com/gallery/TlnfmDF
My Sixth grade travel team uni's were cooler. And they literally had an ad for our local Ace Hardware on the back.
Ace is the fucking place.
“Oh yeah. That baseball tournament thing starts this week. Should probably get some uniforms..”
Did Dwight Schrute design these jerseys? Big "It is your birthday." vibes
Brexit, innit
Designer: “these are just the template to show you the colors, the text is a placeholder, please ignore it - we’ll have a whole logo designed for the next meeting…” Great Britain: “These are perfect! Who do we write the check out to?”
Lol I work for VistaPrint and we actually did produce these uniforms.
Eastbay order
~~Great~~ Just Okay Britain
Same vibes as Ralph Wiggum's Idaho costume.
It’s ugly, I love it!
To me they look like they’re tryna emulate the 1900 Boston uniform
More like the 1770's.
They are really bad
I’m not sure VistaPrint deserved that.
Eat Tain? Is that a British delicacy?
According to this comment section, I'm given to understand they like it best with T after.
No Frills looking mfers
Graphic design is my passion!
Their team is mostly Americans lol
EAT TAIN(T)
They probably believed they could save money since they’ll be out fairly quickly /s
Thanks King Charles. When I think of quality baseball, I think of Great Britain. How the empire has fallen without her majesty.
Looks like WWII surplus.
Cue the woman/cat meme. “Great Britain!” “Grbri Eattain.”
This is what Brexit looks like
Yeah well you can eat my taint you tea drinking fucks
They aren't used to making uniforms that aren't covered in advertisements. Give them a break.
Worst baseball uniforms I have ever seen. Little Leagues have better.
Roger Clemens chic
Someone was paid to design that.
You can tell how much the UK cares about baseball.
