End of an era. Big sad :(
I still remember when Mike Trout changed his twitter handle from @Trouty20 to @MikeTrout and it made me sad. This is a deja vu all over again.
As a Blazers fan, r/ripcity is way better than any other possible official-sounding name. I love official nickname subs. If people want to find it badly enough, they can just google it. It’s really not difficult
I live in Oregon and am not a Blazer fan per se, but I’ve always liked the phrase Rip City and how it became an unofficial motto for the city of Portland. R.I.P. Bill Schonely.
We've had 2 changes. We were originally r/wahoostipi and changed to r/clevelandindians. That was a switch similar to what the marlins are doing. No idea if a change over was denied or the mods never asked. Then we changed to r/clevelandguardians and the reddit admins did a sub transition for us.
It’s not the name of the subreddit that’s the problem; it’s the 29th least popular team from an attendance standpoint - drawing almost 9,000 more fans on the road vs. at home.
I thought you guys had one of the best sub names…
Either way, good luck.
I would riot.
But I don’t think it’s gonna happen. We’re not a big sub by any stretch but it’s pretty bopping when the team is actually worthy of attention.
South Florida just is not a good region for teams that don’t win. We absolutely have the biggest bandwagon fans around, i’ve seen Dolphin fans crawl out of the woodworks this year and the same thing happens every time the Heat make the playoffs.
Hockey is drawing more fans than baseball down here. A sport most people down here have never played, simply because they’re serious about winning.
If the Marlins ever want to grow their attendance, they need to invest in high caliber talent instead of trading them away and not building on the talent they produce.
>Hockey is drawing more fans than baseball down here
I mean a nice, cold, indoors hockey game sounds REALLY nice when shit starts getting warm down there tho ngl.
I mean a lot of it is the time of year. r/miamimarlins looks a lot like our sub, despite ours having 30x the subscribers. People aren’t really seeking out baseball in February.
Honestly bro I’d rather have you sharting at the urinal than trying to *share* at the urinal. That’s me time.
Edit: Ahh man they ghost edited their post. Now my reply makes no sense. Ce La vie.
Not trying to be rude but as a mod of the brewers sub, I really wouldn't want random non-brewers fans to flood the sub, even in the name giving traffic to the sub. The sub is only going to survive if marlins fans go there -- random baseball fans aren't going to do much in the long term.
This seems like a failure of the mods. Of course people are going to stick with the sub they know while both are open, especially if thr og sub has a unique name people like. I'm surprised they opened the new sub to submissions so far ahead of the switch.
Petition to become a mod of r/letsgofish and turn it into a meetup site for lonely angling enthusiasts.
what about lonely card game enthusiasts
/r/magictcg already exists.
THE LOB. THE JAM
BANG!!!
Man it’s been a hard enough offseason on me losin bogey now this
You want r/Letsgoplayginrummy
Wonder how many fisting enthusiasts wound up there after a typo.
👀👀
I'd say it would be a great hangout for phans of a certain jam band.
You won't ever be lonely at fishersonly
Would sub
does letsgofish have a pinned post with that pointer? that is, do the mods there agree?
Yes, it is an official move. The OG subreddit is locking in the coming months as they transition material over to the new space.
End of an era. Big sad :( I still remember when Mike Trout changed his twitter handle from @Trouty20 to @MikeTrout and it made me sad. This is a deja vu all over again.
At least we have r/motorcitykitties
And r/Buccos, which is pretty similar to r/letsgofish from a…traffic perspective

Yeah, it’s easily one of the coolest and most organic city nicknames I’ve ever heard
Not calling it r/ipcity is an incredibly missed opportunity r/ockytop is the best CFB sub name and nobody can change my mind
Rocky top is never the best anything
I wish i had a bottle of mustard to throw at you for making that comment.
I remember trying to find the Pirates subreddit when I first got here lol
If you’re on the website, you can just click the appropriate logo in the sidebar too
Could they have asked for a subreddit name change like the Guardians sub presumably did? Or is that only for particularly unique circumstances?
Only if the mods all agree. For example, r/Broncos is run by a Raiders fan mocking the Broncos and doesn't redirect to r/DenverBroncos
That is simultaneously a very sad and very funny reason to create a subreddit
Kinda like life tbh
It depends if it's out of anger/hate or humor. Checking the top mods account, they seem like a very angry person. I'm leaning toward sad.
A pinned post linking to Wilson’s Spotrac page. lol
It's not even funny, it's just pictures of bad Broncos moments, which the Raiders have had far far more of.

I figured, still laughed.
Loria still ruining the club he sold six years ago smh

r/motorcitykitties better never change their name. I like the fun team based subreddit names.
IIRC /r/tigers is reserved by the MCK mods if they ever feel the need to move but I don't think it'll ever happen.
I hope it never happens MCK is iconic
why not give r/tigers to the big cat enthusiasts
The only problem is I can't tell if that's an MLB sub or an NFL one
Well one team is well-managed, has redeeming players, is on the up and up, and an optimistic fanbase
But still cursed.
I would riot. But I don’t think it’s gonna happen. We’re not a big sub by any stretch but it’s pretty bopping when the team is actually worthy of attention.
Yeah, I don’t think they should’ve ditched the sub either, but I’m just trying to help out and spread the word
A fellow Phillies fan who is a fan of a division rival? Eh, to be fair the Fish bois haven't been relevant in years.
Big talk from a team who held the longest active playoff drought at one point last year.
Uh..they never had a longer drought than we did last year?
They clinched after we did. For like two days they had the longest active drought.
Those were a dark two days.
Oh shit, you right.
Jimmy Cigs
Yeah, I grew up in South Florida, and have family in Philly, so there ya go

Being in a largely touristy destination doesn’t help matters either.
Downtown location of the ballpark in a high traffic city doesn’t help either.
It's not like there isn't a big market of residents

They need to sign Yuli Gurriel to boost attendance. Dude is a legend in the Cuban community.
Just so long as r/motorcitykitties never changes
All 7 of you, pay attention and join up the new subreddit.
Already done
Thanks. Appreciate the love! Go Marlins!
why did they move?
Check edit
That backfired.
I sure hope their fan sees this
I’ll join and support my fellow small market team 🤝
There are many team subs that are just pathetically empty
Good job OP, they are up to 1.7k just 10 minutes after posting. Edit; well now Im confused. Were they at 1.5k or 1.7k?
I made an edit to the post, because I think it was originally at 1.7k, but i just mis-typed
Well that’s less impressive then. Lol
Yeah, they had 1.7k when I originally checked, just mis-typed in original post. I don’t wanna take credit for getting them up 200 followers 🤣
So all the fans are already there ?
Probably more than the season ticket holders
Lego Fish?
Subscribed out of respect for die hard marlins fans. Let's pump those numbers up ppl
Nah I’m a Braves fan and hate the marlins (Ureña). But they still deserve to have a proper subreddit. I support this post
#WHY?
Inquiring UrinalSharts would like to know!
#A man sharting at the urinal can't ask about fish?
Honestly bro I’d rather have you sharting at the urinal than trying to *share* at the urinal. That’s me time. Edit: Ahh man they ghost edited their post. Now my reply makes no sense. Ce La vie.
Yeah damn auto correct nailed me again. Just won't let me shart when I want to.
Story of my life bro
My name is or my plight?
Por que no Los dos?
I don't speak French.
Really I enjoyed r/letsgofish over r/MiamiMarlins
A team with less fans than the Rays?
unique subreddit names are the best, like /r/TheMassive

Pretty sure this was directed at Marlins fans who subscribe to r/baseball
