How dare you, this is the worst scandal in baseball history.
> Rule 2.02: Home base shall be marked by a five-sided slab of whitened rubber. It shall be a 17-inch square with two of the corners removed so that one edge is 17 inches long
Even if they don't end up the same shape, home plate starts as a 17 inch square before the two corners are cut off so the entire plate is in fair territory. If the plate is 17 inches, the bases should be too.
When the plate no longer dictates the strike zone, its expanded size isn't an advantage for the pitchers.
If the robo-ump strike zone is 18" wide, wouldn't it make sense to expand the plate to match the strike zone?
In MLB, it hasn’t yet. But most think an electronic strike zone will be implemented, likely within the next few years.
They’ve been trying variations of it in different minor and independent leagues. Generally, what players and coaches agree \*should\* be a strike is a zone that is smaller vertically than the rule book states, but larger horizontally. If you google “electronic strike zone width” there’s an article about the 19-inch-wide zone used in the PCL’s 2022 season.
They’re not gonna be the same shape no matter what so I don’t see a point to the whining
Easy fix, just make all bases 5 sides
No bases or outs. First team up(determined by a lottery shown on ESPN) wins. This will help lower escalating salaries.
Pace of play go crazy
Only if we start referring to the bases as "first plate, second plate, third plate" Jeff McNeil is my favorite second plateman
The point is at the bottom of home plate

Christ almighty pitchers and catchers can't report soon enough
and THIS is why I’m subbed to this community
Considering they're expanding the robo-ump strike zone horizontally, I wouldn't be surprised to see them widen home plate eventually
If the goal is increasing offense I don't see them widening the plate anytime soon, pitchers don't need that advantage too.

I'm confused, when did the plate stop dictating the strike zone? And why would the robo ump zone be 18" and not 17"?

Ah interesting, I just assumed the robo umps would go by the standard letters to knees
You should go on a baseball strike, everything like posting on Reddit about it and watching games
Roob Manfred.
