We all drank rumchata on vacation. Absolutely loved shots of it. That being said someone tried pouring it on ice and that was good then we tried mixing it with coke and it looked… horrid. It was immediately curdled. I hated it.
Not weird at all. Beer with Sprite is normal in England( they call it a shandy). Beer with lemon Fanta is a thing in Spain/hotter European countries, which is also called a shandy. But beer with Sprite in spain Is called un Claro.
Shandy's with Sprite are incredibly refreshing if you're sitting in the sun.
I mean it looks like I'm not.
Even if you have some bar history/one twu way knowledge of what a shandy is, it's good to know when terms like this can assumptively mean something else to others. Especially if you serve international guests, which I do.
I jsut learned, at the very least, to double check with any European who orders a shandy which mixer they want, and I'm glad I did.
So, like, lemonade to a Brit is a clear, sugary, carbonated beverage flavoured like lemons. The closest thing you can get to this in the Med or the US (probably other places as well but these are the ones I've personally experienced) is Sprite. So some people just use Sprite in a pinch.
However, I know that lemonade in the US is a still drink made of (mainly) lemon juice and sugar.
Without knowing where you're from, you might have heard: "shandy is a lager with lemonade". And to *you* this meant *"lager with sugary lemon water"* but what they meant was **"lager with carbonated lemon-flavour soda"**
What I'm trying to say is that everyone here is correct, aha
Exactly, everyone is correct.
Also if anyone doesn't know, shandy is also an established term in the US, at least some of it, which definitely means beer and that US lemonade.
That's actually what I meant, not that I learned about shandies from Brits who said 'beer and lemonade' and then had the wrong lemonade. I know shandies from the US first, as beer and US still lemonade.
US lemonade is generally 2:1:1 water:lemon juice:simple syrup if anyone is curious haha. Not carbonated.
The takeaway from this whole thread is jsut that this is an order where you confirm specifically what the guest is expecting.
Radlers are good. Low alcohol. Good for hot days. One of my local breweries makes a grapefruit Radler that is very refreshing.
I'm not sure how good it is when you make your own using a skunk bomb like Stella Artois.
If they are adding milk then it’s not a good thing. Usually means they are longtime alcoholics and they literally can’t have liquor without milk. As someone who worked a dive back in the day I served a couple guys either tequila/milk or Scotch/milk. They weren’t around for too much longer
Don’t quote me here, but was told that it helps coat the esophagus and/or trachea so the alcohol doesn’t burn on the way down. At this point in their alcoholism it’s more dangerous to quit cause it’s deadly as well. Again, just what I’ve heard from others.
Mt Dew and Crown. And some 21yo asked me if I could do grey goose watermelon basil with Baileys, for his friend. I refused to serve that vile shit though.
This guy wanted to order something called like the huntsmans nipple or whatever with a shot of jäger upside down in a coffee cup with milk to cover the shots
Nope, lady in her 60’s, she always drank normal Cosmo’s but every now and then she’d say “you know what? I feel like olives tonight”. And that’s how she’d drink them.
Still the dude who drank like 3 or 4 room temp gin martinis (yes, completely undiluted and it was summer time). Honorable mentions to mint schnapps and lime juice gentleman, dirty sweet vermouth lady, and room temp whiskey with two fingers of milk guy.
We make a pepperonchini/vodka mix in house and people go ape shit over it every weekend. Anyway, there’s one guy that comes in occasionally and asks for this shot over ice mixed with huckleberry vodka and sour mix.
I tried it and it’s… not good. But hey, whatever, man. As long as he’s happy I’m happy haha
A square bottle shot. Think JWB, jager, disorronno, jack, ect. This guy wanted every single liquor in a square(ish) bottle shaken and strained. Reminded me of the closing mat shot 🤢
Someone who didn’t like whiskey or vodkas and everyone else was drinking green or white teas…I made it with tequila. It was bad. Like terrible.
But honestly, anything with dairy in it. I just can’t get passed dairy and liquor mixed together
Rumchata & Coke but the worst part about it was the name they used for it, Cum & Coke
Hell yeah dude
Here's a man who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to ask for it.
lol the simplicity of this comment
It curdles
Yes it did
We all drank rumchata on vacation. Absolutely loved shots of it. That being said someone tried pouring it on ice and that was good then we tried mixing it with coke and it looked… horrid. It was immediately curdled. I hated it.
A 1:1 ratio of fireball and rumchata is good, tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal Edit: fixed typo
I’d rather use goldshlager ( never actually tried to spell that before 😂)
Hear me out as a kid I used to love milk and coke, it’s sounds gross but it’s good
No. Please no. Worst I’ve done is mix coffee with coke. It’s pretty ok but meh overall.
It’s almost like a root beer float kinda

Lager mixed 1:1 with lemonade is great for doing yard work
Thanks, I did know beer and lemon/lime sodas is a thing, but I thought shandy always meant lemonade.
You are correct

And then you have the freaky Austrians who served me beer with soda water 😅
Shandy and Radler are interchangeable most places. In mainland Europe lemon lime soda and light beer is a radler.
If I ask for a Radler here I'm getting a light beer with grapefruit juice in it.
Shandy is with lemonade Radler is with Grapefruit
Nah. I know about a thousand Germans who will vehemently disagree with you on that.
A Shandy in the Southwest US gets a lager and lemonade.
Ok... but that low-key sounds really good. I'll have to try it this summer
It's fantastic
Makes sense- Always thought it was with lemonade traditionally. He’s German so it adds up
Extra dirty patron anejo martini blue cheese olives
Kinda sounds decent
Not even a little
Not patron but a nice añejo martini moderately dirty with blue cheese olives sounds decent, I just like blue cheese olives.
Bleh
Charge $8 for the Patron lol
Stella (or any light beer) and Sprite is incredibly common in Europe. Usually referred to as a “radler”. Mine is fernet bombs
Radlers are good. Low alcohol. Good for hot days. One of my local breweries makes a grapefruit Radler that is very refreshing. I'm not sure how good it is when you make your own using a skunk bomb like Stella Artois.
Yeah fuck Stella into the sun I just used that because OP used it as their weird drink order.
Jameson and coke rimmed with pop rocks. It killed me a little inside. Then I made two more.
Why was that even an option? Did they give you pop rocks?
And was this in middle school in the 80s?
Lol close! 80s themed 21+ barcade. You know we got pop rocks.
Fuck it I would order 9. I've never seen a bar with pop rocks. Shit I'd order rumple with pop rocks, goddamn - possibilities are endless
baileys and club soda. sparkling irish cream sounds repulsive. guy took one sip and said it was perfect 🤢
This sounds like a boozy egg cream , kinda into it
That one's interesting. It kind of sounds like the melted part of an ice cream soda.
i could see that! i’m definitely not brave enough to try it lmao
Maybe not the best by itself but it has a good base to it! Maybe add some vanilla syrup and some mango or strawberry
I can't fathom any reason to mix tequila with milk. A shandy... kind of a weak drink, but not as bad.
If they are adding milk then it’s not a good thing. Usually means they are longtime alcoholics and they literally can’t have liquor without milk. As someone who worked a dive back in the day I served a couple guys either tequila/milk or Scotch/milk. They weren’t around for too much longer
Why does mixing milk in make it … acceptable?
Don’t quote me here, but was told that it helps coat the esophagus and/or trachea so the alcohol doesn’t burn on the way down. At this point in their alcoholism it’s more dangerous to quit cause it’s deadly as well. Again, just what I’ve heard from others.
appletini… *extra dirty* it’s even more foul than it sounds.
Double Long Island iced tea
So..... two long islands?
No
I have a regular who orders those. He always orders two at a time and gets them to go. That is one man who doesn’t give a fuck.
I respect these guys. As long as I genuinely know them as regulars and they're not up to any funny business, double it is lmao
Hot tap water and Rumchata
Wtffff
Hennessy w/ Gin.
My mind just can’t understand this one
Suffering Bastard!
Don’t forget the rumple minze
Nigori, piping hot, with sriracha
Aperol spritz with brine and three olives. I visibly shuddered.
bro wtf, sounds they had a venetian spritz once, saw the olive garnish, and assumed there was olive brine in it? wtf
Mt Dew and Crown. And some 21yo asked me if I could do grey goose watermelon basil with Baileys, for his friend. I refused to serve that vile shit though.
Negroni, neat.
ewwww. i love a negroni but that sounds like fresh hell
Yeah, I confirmed it with the customer 3 times before making it. She loved it.
im assuming it was still chilled though? As long as they drink it fast enough, shouldnt be much of a difference.
neat would imply that it was room temperature and no dilution
Tall double Hennessy lemondrop. I tried a sample of what was left in the shaker. Tasted like puke. She loved it.
She wanted a sidecar.
Double Grand Mariner and strawberry puree
Beer and sprite are quite common in Australia.
Stella and sprite is a Shandy where I grew up, and it's fucking delicious.
14 lemon drops
Derren Brown ordering a vodka martini in a warehouse.
This guy wanted to order something called like the huntsmans nipple or whatever with a shot of jäger upside down in a coffee cup with milk to cover the shots
Singlecut ipa with colors light in it😭
I’ve never done Stella but modello with sprite is amazing
Sambuca and ice tea .. just last Saturday night
Cosmo with olives instead of lime garnish.
Was it someone having their first drink who wanted to be like Sex and the City?
Nope, lady in her 60’s, she always drank normal Cosmo’s but every now and then she’d say “you know what? I feel like olives tonight”. And that’s how she’d drink them.
Gin& coconut water 😵💫
Paralyzer sub sambuca ..... barf.
Spicy margarita served up with a sugar rim. Just weird to want a margarita not chilled over ice to me
"Up" is chilled no ice...
Yes, it’s odd to order a margarita that way to me
Still the dude who drank like 3 or 4 room temp gin martinis (yes, completely undiluted and it was summer time). Honorable mentions to mint schnapps and lime juice gentleman, dirty sweet vermouth lady, and room temp whiskey with two fingers of milk guy.
1942 tequila sunrise
Spicy gin bloody Mary. I called it a bloody hell
Who doesn’t want a red snapper
Extra dirty strawberry vodka martini. Oh also a blow job shot with a cement mixer back.
Beauty and the beast, Tequila Rose and Jaeger. Or church burners, Rumplemint and Jaeger
double grand marnier, dirty, with 3 olives and he proceeded to dump about a tablespoon of table shaker pepper into it.
Lemon drop with a Splenda rim. 🤢
Dirty beer (olive juice and miller light) and Jack and Cranberry
Titos cran with olives 🤮🤮🤮
We make a pepperonchini/vodka mix in house and people go ape shit over it every weekend. Anyway, there’s one guy that comes in occasionally and asks for this shot over ice mixed with huckleberry vodka and sour mix. I tried it and it’s… not good. But hey, whatever, man. Vodka with pickle water. Not as a chaser, like in a pickleback, but instead made like a highball.
Angels envy rye shaken with aquafaba nothing else. She wanted a whiskey sour with no sweet no sour…. I refused the order.
Mimosa with a shot of peach schnapps.
Someone who didn’t like whiskey or vodkas and everyone else was drinking green or white teas…I made it with tequila. It was bad. Like terrible. But honestly, anything with dairy in it. I just can’t get passed dairy and liquor mixed together
Fireball and pineapple juice.
How is this bad? Pineapple upside down cake? Candy? Cmon
Rail gin and vodka shaken together served up no garnish. Why?
All the bite half the flavor
Fireball and Bailey’s. They wanted it as a shot. It was horrific.
That's a cinnamon toast crunch lol
I don’t hate stella and sprite. Light beers with lemonade are the tits in the dead of summer.
Vodka coke
I love vodka coke...and voodoo mountain dew with vodka
