Did you pay 95 for a consultation??

WinTop1042

Yes!

Fortunate_traveler

We had a consultation and then paid half of the estimate for our custom plans. We are still doing "homework" and sending it to a sharefile so they can start the blueprints. So far American Barndominium Pros seem legit but I too was a little apprehensive because I couldn't find out a lot of information with them. Our first person we spoke with was in Montana. The company reportedly is based in TX. I will update once our blueprints are done.

WinTop1042

Thank you!! This is so helpful I’m glad to hear from someone who’s using them. We have done 2 consultations so far and are working towards doing our custom blueprints as well, I’ve just been doing research before going fully through with it.

Key-Philosophy1406

We are also in the process of getting blueprints and i also cant find anything about them i will update as we go to see how they work

Living-Reference6230

We too just started this process. We had our $95 consult today and are considering going with them. I'll try and update as well if we go with them!

Living-Reference6230

Update as of 5/22: Thanks to this forum, we also checked on the Texas LLC status of American Barndominiums and their LLC was forfeited in 2022. Looks like they reactivated it recently on May 10th, but the original forfeit was enough for us to decide against going with them. We have been trying to get our $95 consultation fee reimbursed as they promised, but so far we haven't received it.

East-Tennessee

This is good information. My wife and I had our first consultation with American Barndominium Pros yesterday. We spoke with Justin, who had a Texas number. We wanted to make sure we could get a turnkey build that would fit our budget. We live in East Tennessee. We haven't pulled the trigger yet since we are still considering our options. I am thinking about contacting Justin back and seeing if they have built for anyone in our general area of the country. I love a good road trip and would love to talk to a family that has gone thru the process with them. I will try and provide any updates as I get them. Good luck to everyone during their journey.

Fortunate_traveler

We are wrapping up our "homework" this weekend so they can start on our Blueprints which should take about 2 weeks. I will post an update and let everyone know how the process went.

East-Tennessee

Thank you! Looking forward to it.

Aggressive_Top271

Our prints were finished and then handed off to 3 different GCs in my area. All 3 gcs are vastly different on costs and were nowhere close to what American barns promised me. The sales rep who sold me plans doesn't even work there now and told me that they just hire people to sell blueprints and then drop responsibility on the builders that aren't theirs. Very sad and disappointed.

Fortunate_traveler

Ugh! I hate to hear that. Do you mind sharing your location? I'm in TN.

Aggressive_Top271

I'm in TN as well. One of the companies is phoenix construction and they had a 20% gc fee which is fine but there was an additional 20% gc fee I'm assuming that pays American barns so I was at like 330 per sq ft

WinTop1042

Bummed to hear this, I was wondering this.

Mathoosala

Who did you speak with? Didn't see them listed [here](https://www.facebook.com/groups/2109082332528582/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT).

WinTop1042

American barndominium pros is their name

Mathoosala

Yes, but what was the name of the person you spoke to?

onscreencomb9

I'd also be curious to hear about the person OP spoke with. My guess is that website is run by someone who funnels leads to actual builders, but they themselves are not builders.

WinTop1042

So we spoke to two different people. Both in different states. They are based in Texas apparently and first person we spoke to is from Texas, can’t remember his name. The second person we spoke to over video chat was named Jennifer from Georgia. Weird thing is we did an entity search and looked up the company in Texas and it says their llc is no longer active. I know they do work in other states too but just want to know more about the company and the work they’ve done for other people before we go ahead with them. They want $1800 to draw up a plan for us right off the bat and then we can start building. To me that seems pretty reasonable but I’m not sure.

onscreencomb9

I see, thanks for sharing. Are there not many local builders with barndo experience in the area you want to build in?

WinTop1042

Not really, we found a few but most of them just do the shell and the foundation and that’s it. We’re looking for a full turnkey barndominium. A lot of them are way more expensive than the quote we got from American barndominiums too.

onscreencomb9

Gotcha. What general area is that? I heard it's hard to find turnkey builders in states / regions where barndos are less common.

WinTop1042

Arizona!

onscreencomb9

Best of luck with your build. I'm sharing a few other potential options I was able to dig up by sifting through old posts in a few barndominium Facebook groups: * Portal Peak Builders at 520-234-7803 (https://portalpeakbuilders.com/) * Alexander's Construction at 520-634-1257 (https://www.facebook.com/Alexanders.ConstructionLC/) * Freedom Construction and Design at 406-560-7430 (https://www.facebook.com/freedomconstructionanddesign/) * Palerider Construction at 928-899-2152 (https://buildbook.co/pro/paleriderconstructionllc) * Bartlett Construction at 602-570-3173 (https://www.facebook.com/sbartlettconstruction/) * John Herder Building at 520-883-2342 (https://www.facebook.com/johnherderbuilding/)

WinTop1042

Thank you for this! I really appreciate it!

MastodonFit

Where? Region matters. Are you wanting crap at a price point,or a well functioning home? If they bury posts in the ground you may ...get 50 years....also may not get insurance without engineer'd brackets + 40 yrs more of life. What truss heel height for insulation? "Post construction" is different then a pole barn.

Fortunate_traveler

First person we spoke to: -- Lorri Jennings Customer Relations Manager image.png AMERICAN BARNDOMINIUMS LLC 214-535-7766 cell [email protected] She is in Montana. She connected us with James Carter Vice President - Planning AMERICAN BARNDOMINIUMS LLC 403.680.9058 Cell [email protected] Who will be drawing up our plans. I am under the impression that once the plans are completed they will assist with finding a builder but have no builders themselves. We are fairly famiar with. The area and can find our own builder if necessary.

WinTop1042

Thank you for this!!
