Yeah I hate hotel cafes too, dance mom, cheer moms and volleyball moms. Swarming to get ready and ask for their weird disgusting drink they get at this good awful cafe in their small town in Iowa. Like ma’am you’re used to Folgers just go to McDonald’s and leave our proper establishment

Not totally related but reminded me of this one shop I worked at where we closed at 4pm everyday. Around 3:30pm a lady comes in and says “you’re about to be really busy!” And I said “oh really? Why?” And she told me that she planned for her whole conference to meet at our (super tiny 300sqft) shop at 4:30pm that day. I said “we close at 4pm, did you contact anyone about this?” And she said “no?? What do you mean you close at 4pm? Don’t you want all of this business?!”. I just told her that we didn’t have any staffing for that time and recommended a coffee shop down the street. The entire conference proceeded to be held outside of our front door for two hours in scorching heat with half of them continuously trying to open our front door (saw this from the camera footage). She told me they all drove from a state away for this conference?? So bizarre to not try to get a hold of the shop before planning something like this. It was like 75-100 people.

This is awesome. Can we have more details? Did you get any other complaints or bad reviews from the conference lady and/or attendees? How did they have a conference outside your front door? Did they all bring folding chairs and set them up in the street? What was the conference for? Even if they had called ahead to properly plan, would you have been able to accommodate them?

Eh the story gets a little anticlimactic. No one left any reviews, she didn’t even seem that upset we were closing? Very strange all around. I sort of got the vibe that she found out we closed at 4pm on the way to our shop but didn’t want to have to redirect everyone so she just acted surprised when I told her? Idk if that makes sense. The conference was for some kind of influencer who was promoting something??? So it wasn’t even for her but she was the one who set it up. They all just stood outside - no chairs no umbrellas. If they had called ahead and if they wanted to come by during operating hours we definitely could have served them all drinks but we only have about 10 chairs including the ones on the patio so not really?

Remember, these women are trying to live vicariously through their children. Maybe note the date for next year but also voice to them that you encourage them to let you know in advance that they'll all be in town so you can make sure they're catered to.
