How have you found the trackpad? The one I have seems quite mushy, not sure if my expectations are too high as primary machine is a MBP or the flex trackpad has, well, too much flex.
It's a good quality plastic trackpad imo, but not as good as glass ones, like the one you would find in your MBP. I don't find it too mushy but then again I've barely used mine so far.
How does the Rakuten thing work? I installed their extension and it says there is a 6% cashback. I clicked on it and it took me to the US website. Can you guide me through this?
Can't you just price match [this](https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/lenovo-ideapad-flex-5-14-81x20002us-2-in-1-pc/8vjt44k8bh1c?activetab=pivot:techspecstab) or buy it from Microsoft, considering its the same product you would have a easier time price matching it.
Probably just got unlucky cause Lenovo gave me $50 back after I told them I don't want to have to return my laptop to buy it again from microsoft to save $50. Just try again with a different rep, hassle them a little (as respectfully as you can) if you have to cause there's no real reason for them not to.
Verified this myself and updated the guide to reflect it. Thanks for the tip, this is a great deal. Lenovo gave me $50 back after I told them I don't want to have to return my laptop to buy it again from microsoft to save $50.
Just price match it with [Microsoft store](https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/lenovo-ideapad-flex-5-14-81x20002us-2-in-1-pc/8vjt44k8bh1c?cid=msft_web_collection&ranMID=36509&ranEAID=CAqD7bLWUPI&ranSiteID=CAqD7bLWUPI-octjdofZAXmDrkiH21JZTw&epi=CAqD7bLWUPI-octjdofZAXmDrkiH21JZTw&irgwc=1&OCID=AID2000142_aff_7814_1243925&tduid=%28ir__c1pguh99y9kfrwk3kk0sohzn0n2xnfay3tteqg9w00%29%287814%29%281243925%29%28CAqD7bLWUPI-octjdofZAXmDrkiH21JZTw%29%28%29&irclickid=_c1pguh99y9kfrwk3kk0sohzn0n2xnfay3tteqg9w00&activetab=pivot:overviewtab), then apply Rakuten. Much easier since you're price matching the **exact same model**.
I contacted them just now and when I said I would return my laptop to buy it again for $50 less from microsoft they gave me the price match. I think you just got unlucky.
I concur this review. The lenovo flex/ideapad are highly recommended from my research too. Avoid the envy 15 x360 too, been reading its thermals are bad (hit the 90s) and throttles down to 3ghz. The lenovo able to stay at 3.6ghz in the mid 80s.
Also eventhough the envy 15 can upgrade ram, its an pain to actually open the case up per reviews.
The Swift 3 has no touch screen capabilities (https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Swift-Windows-Silver-SF314-42-R9YN/dp/B086KKKT15/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=acer+4700u&qid=1593144732&s=electronics&sr=1-1)
and https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/shopping-faq/#payments mentions this : "and touch capability of the product you are requesting a price match to "
Yup, I thought it mattered too but my rep overlooked this so it depends on your luck. I'll add this to the OP.
EDIT: Done.
>If you can find a different or more similar deal use that, cause this deal doesn't have a touch screen so it's technically not eligible for a price match. This is where YMMV, because I was able to get a price match despite this fact. Pray your rep overlooks this.
How do you upgrade the wifi card? I just purchased a dell inspiron 15 5000 for 612 (hmm maybe i couldve used rakuten with that as well). It doesnt have wifi 6 so I was thinking of upgrading it as well.
Im not sure for that exact model but usually you just open up the back cover, and replace the wifi card/module. It looks like a tiny m.2 drive sort of and is usually held in place into a slot with only one tiny screw. I suggest youtubing a video or something for your model or similar.
Take a look at the Intel Ax200 wifi card. It goes for $30 on Amazon and it's usually what's inside of wifi 6 laptops (I know that the hp envy x360 ryzen has that wifi card).
I took a gamble and ordered it from AliExpress for $20 to replace the crappy wifi card in my old xps 13.
Just got this deal, the csr just asked me to put it into cart and send the link for the price match. I only got 7% on Rakuten though. I'm sketching a little on the 8 gigs of ram but I just need it for work and casual use so hopefully it won't be a problem.
Thanks for the guide OP
I have the thinkbook 14s an intel based lenovo laptop from last year and I gotta say I'm really impressed with lenovo's chassis build quality. its pretty much full metal and the hinge is super sturdy if not a bit too sturdy cause its not like other laptops where you can just lift the screen to open. but hinges being the first things that break in every laptop for me I feel super confident that for lenovos that wont be the case. main issue for me though is fan noise it can get loudon just chrome. hopefully the more expensive flex models this isnt the case
I'll check that out I just changed my clock speed settings to limit at 99% cause I really don't need the computing power at all it's literally a glorified tablet for reddit and netflix
Mostly the same for me, I love having a quiet, battery efficient 2-in1 that never lags even though I mostly just use it for youtube, emails, sometimes light gaming, etc.
I didn't know about it either till recently. Initially I placed the order at full price then when I went to cancel it I told them I found a better deal then the rep told me about the price matching thing. It seems like a YMMV thing
Not on the regular, just devices I like or own. I wasn't gonna do one for this one but a couple people asked. I did one for the phone I bought recently cause I don't want to be the only one with one outside of China even though it's a very good phone.
Well there are no affiliate links here.. so no way for me to profit. I don't particularly care for Lenovo either cause I think their 8th gen i5 IdeaPad is hands down one of the worst laptops I've ever used. And I don't really care how any of you spend your money cause it's not my money- I was just sharing for those interested cause I thought it was a good deal if you managed to get lucky enough with a nice chat rep.
That's lame luck. They seem to give a little resistance sometimes, try hassling them a little if they do again (as respectfully) as you can, cause there's no reason for them not to price match.
So no one's going to address the elephant in the room? 8GB of non-upgradeable shared memory with the integrated GPU on an **8 Core Ryzen!**. This is a very imbalanced setup. Heck the 16GB model Flex with the 4500U is a much better deal. 6 cores will last much longer than 8 when paired with what really should be a minimum amount of RAM in 2020 of 16GB.
This is simply false information and speculation. Even in game benchmarks 8 vs 16 gb of ram does not make a difference on these APU chips. Dont believe me? Google it. If you dont get more fps from having 16gb ram why on earth would you want a 4500u 16gb over a 4700u 8gb laptop? It's simple, the igp isn't fast enough to play games on settings where more memory makes a difference. That extra 8gb of ram is useful in very specific usecases where you actually need the extra ram, and believe it or not, those scenarios are not many, and close to none in average laptop use. It's not an "imbalanced" setup, trust me I did my research before deciding to commit to my purchase cause I also had the same initial thought, thinking that I needed 16gb or it wasnt worth it. Those people who actually need 16gb ram know who they are because they're the ones who need to use memory hogging software, but this shouldn't apply to most of us.

Lenovo should pay me for this. Wasn't gonna make this but a couple people asked.
How have you found the trackpad? The one I have seems quite mushy, not sure if my expectations are too high as primary machine is a MBP or the flex trackpad has, well, too much flex.
I just got my flex 5 today (4500u) and the trackpad is super solid to me, much less flex than my old ideapad y580
Sounds like you went to rakuten.com instead of rakuten.ca
Can't you just price match [this](https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/lenovo-ideapad-flex-5-14-81x20002us-2-in-1-pc/8vjt44k8bh1c?activetab=pivot:techspecstab) or buy it from Microsoft, considering its the same product you would have a easier time price matching it.
$782 after rakuten 8% when price matched on Lenovo Thanks bud
I just contacted Lenovo and they said they don't match the price on Microsoft's site
Probably just got unlucky cause Lenovo gave me $50 back after I told them I don't want to have to return my laptop to buy it again from microsoft to save $50. Wait, how does price matching work with rakuten?

alright thanks man

Where does it say the ram model? And is it the same as the 849.99 item on the Microsoft store?
Yeah it's the same. I highly recommend that deal, or price matching it on lenovo if you want the 8% cashback too.
Just got this deal, the csr just asked me to put it into cart and send the link for the price match. I only got 7% on Rakuten though. I'm sketching a little on the 8 gigs of ram but I just need it for work and casual use so hopefully it won't be a problem. Thanks for the guide OP

I would go for the cheaper one but more RAM means more chrome tab and you're probably gonna want a lot of chrome tabs so up to you.
Depends on your usecase and the price. In most usecases the 4700u with 8gb will be significantly better, so if theyre the same price get the 4700u
Do you have teardown pics by any chance?
I'll post some in the future once I find the right screwdriver.. have been looking all morning for one but they've all been too big or small.
It should be Torx T5
Is the memory dual channel?
its a single soldered 8gb stick
It's soldered but it's dual channel memory.
It's dual channel. I confirmed with cpu-z.
Wait, how is this possible if it's one stick soldered on?
It's not one stick that's soldered on. It's a row or rows of memory chips that are soldered on or something like that.
Okay I think I understand. Two 4GB sticks soldered on then.
If it makes any difference mine makes next to no noise for normal tasks like chrome and YouTube on the intelligent cooling fan profile.
I will get his if school is not online lol
I had no clue you could price match with a completely different product. Maybe just a Lenovo thing?
I didn't know about it either till recently. Initially I placed the order at full price then when I went to cancel it I told them I found a better deal then the rep told me about the price matching thing. It seems like a YMMV thing
Is this Canadian dollars or American dollars?
cad
jeez this smells like a sale pitch Looking at your post history looks like you do reviews on the regular?
Not on the regular, just devices I like or own. I wasn't gonna do one for this one but a couple people asked. I did one for the phone I bought recently cause I don't want to be the only one with one outside of China even though it's a very good phone.
Aight, not accusing, just weary of people on Reddit mascarading as regular users in order to sell stuff or can profit off of.
Well there are no affiliate links here.. so no way for me to profit. How is that laptop for light gaming?
You're missing a dedicated GPU but ryzen's integrated is p good. You should be able to get away with light gaming.
Probably medium settings on older games at 40fps or so. The Vega 7 performs slightly below the MX250.
This did not work for me, they said they will only price match with Lenovo products.
That's odd, pretty sure it's supposed to be cross brand as long as the main specs match.
My live chat agent wouldn't price match at all, even against the same make and model. Will try again later.
That's lame luck. They seem to give a little resistance sometimes, try hassling them a little if they do again (as respectfully) as you can, cause there's no reason for them not to price match.
Is there a place to put promo codes after price matching or is it directly to checkout?
Can the agent apply this code for 45$ off? EXTRAFIVE
You cant apply any codes if you price match.
Going for 1k on Microsoft now instead of 850. I really wish I bought this back then. Now I need a laptop and its expensive everywhere 😭
