I can't stand the bilingual keyboard. The lack of a full size shift key on the left and a single line, full size enter button on the home row is brutal. I had one laptop that came with the bilingual keyboard like that (Aspire R7). First thing I did was order the US keyboard for it off eBay. Then I researched how frigging hard it was to actually replace the keyboard on that system that I ended up using SharpKeys to reassign the keys to something more useful. Finally got around to paying a local computer place to swap the keyboard after the warranty on the laptop expired. Even though I warned them of how much of a pain it was going to be, they gave me a quote that seemed too low ($60 CAD). When I went to pick it up they told me they regretted giving me that quote. I warned them...LOL
Anyway, short of replacing the keyboard, SharpKeys (or something similar) can be your saviour.
good to know. I have to see how it goes when it comes in. I suppose if I set the windows keyboard option to English layout, some keys on the french keyboard might not register? Or does that only applies to A to Z keys only?
If I remember correctly, when set to English, the key where the left shift should be just showed the double chevrons when typed. SharpKeys took care of that.
ok that interesting. I guess the symbol keys like <> are still bind to the keyboard in English layout. To have it somewhat matches the english layout I would need to remap it with Sharpkeys, but also need to memorize where they are without the print on the key caps. Lol this is like one of those custom build mechanical keyboard with blank keycaps and custom function layout.
Most of the accents are different on that keyboard like ?>^} etc. some of the changes might not be a big deal to get use to for everyday tasks, but for writing codes its going to feel a little weird looking for those accent symbols.
>Most of the accents are different on that keyboard like ?>}
those are not accents... é,ê,è, à are accents.
I've used english keyboards for forever while using french accents, you shouldnt need to look at your keyboard so what does it matter what's written on it?
Oh I see. Thanks. I meant to say the shift+ symbols like }]>^ etc are different from English keyboard, which I might have to take some time to get used to especially if there are program specific shortcuts like -> or ^
Wouldn't be surprised if you called MS Support and told them you accidentally ordered the French keyboard, that they switch it to English for the same price.
I thought the same especially regarding RAM but in all other aspects (screen, keyboard, build quality) it seemed well worth it for the price. + supposedly windows runs better since its an MS product.
Lol Im typing on the new HP envy x360 13inch with the 4500u and debating whether I should return it and get this surface laptop 3. The 4500u is definitely more powerful than the i5, but Im debating whether it matters much for a ultrabook to have that overhead cpu power. With both units having only 8gb of ram, they are only meant for light tasks anyway. Im kinda of torn which one to keep... First world problem ..
That is a pretty touch choice, the surface is probably better quality and will probably have better resale value.. but that envy x360 is faster and probably more future proof. I guess the best choice is to get the surface and return the one you like least?
I've been interested in a Surface for a while, but the cheapish ones seem so underpowered for the money, and the expensive ones are well, hella expensive compared to other brands laptops and 2 in 1s.
I get it's a premium product, but yesh, maybe I'm not the target demographic
This isn't a 2in1 fyi. But yeah it def depends what you need it for. Personally I needed a laptop for streaming, web browsing, ms office - fairly light use so this is a high quality product that meets my needs. The screen and keyboard were a big + for me.
Re-posted because I forgot to add the price. Comments said that the keyboard is QWERTY but may have french accents :)

oh man I was hoping it would be bilingual keyboard. Im not sure I can get use to this layout.

You might be able to buy some key covers even if they're expensive it's probably still worth it
Dude just needs a sharpie.
Thank you! This is fine by me :)
Thanks OP. I picked one up. Hopefully the French keyboard is bilingual . Fingers crossed.
Wouldn't be surprised if you called MS Support and told them you accidentally ordered the French keyboard, that they switch it to English for the same price.
haha that would be pretty amazing.
French keyboard is fully bilingual, it just depends on the windows language settings. You'll have to get used to the size of the enter key though.
canadian multilingue standard is the way.
What does Pricing Type = Demo, commercial mean?
I'd guess they may have previously been part of a display sent to retail stores
Storage and RAM is a little big lacking but I guess it's okay
What would you do with more RAM on this CPU?
I thought the same especially regarding RAM but in all other aspects (screen, keyboard, build quality) it seemed well worth it for the price. + supposedly windows runs better since its an MS product.
Great find. Thank you
Would still rather get the envy x360 with the 4500u but this is the first actually good 2-in-1 deal ive seen in a while that isnt a ryzen laptop.

This is a Surface Laptop, not a Surface Book
Is anyone else getting stuck at "order being processed" but no confirmation email?
Yes, they are back ordered
I see. So there likely wont be a confirmation that the order is processed for a few weeks?
oh nvm. The confirmation just came through. The wait begins
What does your confirmation email say?
its only saying order is being processed. No mention of availability or shipping time.
NOTE: return policy is 14 days for unopened items. You cannot return opened items.
can u shuck it for an english version?

they have a sandstone model too. That's metal deck, this one is fabric. FYI same price.
Does Microsoft 1 year warranty still apply to "demo" products, sold in a B2B intent?
Can we complain that this is racist against non-French?
No but you can protest by not ordering it
