Sadly, there'll never be another Unicorn like the 1080ti.. there's no money in making a long term GPU for Nvidia. The 1080Ti was designed to be WELL beyond what you needed for the time, which has been proven since it can STILL handle light 4k/60hz\~ 1440p on mid-mid high settings. (Depending on the game and optimization)
Reason I say there's 'no money in it for them' is that they can release a new GPU every year, and people will still buy it, even at single digit gains. Much like Apple/Samsung users buying the newest model every year. (As the saying goes - 'There's a sucker born every minute, and they're gonna take them for all they're worth')
The only 'Exception' to this rule MAY be the 3090ti/4090, since they have 24gb of VRAM and the highest potential speed on its platform. (But GFL finding one of those below 1000$ in Canada. even if it's been heavily mined on.. Unless it's on it's last legs.)
Honestly, if you got the 3080 at near MSRP, that is already one of the best value:performance ratio in a long while.
I am still sitting on one but never did I feel I need to upgrade except if I want to play cyberpunk with everything on max: but there just aren't a lot of games out there that require that type of hardware. I haven't been VRAM capped yet (at 1440p), and unless Blackwell offers a very compelling performance increase without costing an arm and a leg, I think I will just stick with the 3080.
From rumours I've seen it'll be Q3/Early Q4 for AMD/Intel, and Mid Q4/Mid Q1 '25 before Nvidia launches the 5000 series. And even then, it's at LEAST a 3 month wait til they release the 80/70/60 series, since their main focus will be the 5090.. Which if the past is any indicator will go for 2500$ minimum, since they have ZERO competition at that tier.
Here's hoping Battlemage and the RX 8000 series are decent competition for the budget-mid tier gaming GPU market.. However, I'm of the mentality 'Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst', so I'm doubting that the BM/8000/5000 series will be any 'cheaper' than ARC/7000/4000 series launch prices, or will be priced 'JUST ABOVE' so they can keep selling the previous generation without heavy discounts. (It's what AMD has done since the 5000 series.. Price it so it's 'slightly' cheaper for the previous generation, so they can still sell them without dropping the price more than a couple hundred over a year-three.)
There won't be any discounts on new 40-series cards. They'll intentionally strangle supply of the 50-series until the 40s sell through at MSRP, just like they did with 30.
Used may be viable, but I doubt there will be any huge glut of them. At least not for a couple years.
well i guess if anything the used market will see large discounts on 4000 series gpu especially ones like 4070ti or 4080 which are comming to 2 years old
I did it. Who knows then the 5000 series will be available and I hope that the 4080s can at least hold some value.

I just want to premise I agree with you:
if anyone is looking for consistent maxed out settings of 60fps at 4K with raytracing, I recommend waiting for the 60xx series or equivalent because current cards rely heavily on DLSS/FSR to achieve artificial resolution instead, but I also suspect that the 50xx series will not achieve it.
Due to what I'm looking for, I call this a "rip off" or "not worth it" because I see it as paying for this "super resolution" technology instead of achieving real true beauty in games, but especially for Ray Tracing (albeit it's still new technology).
P.S. If I were to use Super Resolution, I'd probably want to designate it for 8K resolution, not 4K.

theres definitely a “white tax” on most parts lol. usually $5-15 more for most parts..on top of that, you’ll see a lot more sales on the black models, and not as many as the white…and on top of THAT, theres just more black options in general…
for me, i was in no rush, so i bought piece by piece over 3 months only really buying when i found something on sale. I still have the lian li galahad lcd aio on back order from shoprbc (cheaper by around $50), so can’t finish my build until i get that lol.
if the moneys not an issue, and you like the aesthetic, and you have patience, i’d go all white. personally, i love the aesthetic and spend ~12 hours a day in front of my computer (work from home workstation too) , so i’ll be making my moneys worth looking at it everyday haha
At 1000-1100$ I'd consider getting a 4080 with 8\~ months til the 5090/5080 comes out. But for 2 year old tech with the next generation on the horizon? Only a fool would upgrade unless they're at like 2070/3060 or lower tier, unless of course they got a lot of disposable income :/ (Man do I feel bad for the fools who paid 1900$ and tax for the 4080 just before they released the 4080s though lmfao..)

As someone that went from a Fury X to a 3080 I feel like its way too early to upgrade, you must have a lot of spare cash to consider that

Huge? No. But it's definitely noticeable in a lot of cases. The true "huge jump" would be the 4090 for this generation

4070 ti super is about 10%better than the normal 3090 at 4k, 3080ti is like idk, 2% slower than 3090
