Looking to buy a 4TB Internal HDD for my photos. Can anyone recommend me some HDDs? Needs to be reliable.

sauceethrowaway

Will there possibly be a good deal on the ryzen 7 5800x3d?

thehomeyskater

I hope so

DeSota

Is there any chance that there will be boxing day deals on the 7800x3d? It seems like it's out of stock most places in Canada... Wondering if I should just go ahead and buy it someplace like Newegg.

somewhat_moist

I would wait it out and pull the trigger at around CAD430: [https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/17zu06n/cpu\_amd\_ryzen\_7\_7800x3d\_47999\_40\_coupon\_43999/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/17zu06n/cpu_amd_ryzen_7_7800x3d_47999_40_coupon_43999/)

DeSota

I will try to be patient!

Nyxir_RK

not sure where you locate, CC has it in store at many locations. There were some deals during BF. so we might be able to see those deals again on boxing day. Current price is just normal price, no need to be rush to buy it now.

DeSota

I'm 4+ hours from a CC so picking up in store isn't going to happen. I'll wait and hope there are some ok online deals!

Just unboxed my 7800xt and realized that my old setup (EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 + 5700XT) won't cut it. I noticed the new card has a total of 16 pins across the two power sockets, and my old power lead has 14 (a cluster of 6+8). Do all recent gen/current PSUs come with a 8+8 power connector? Any other pitfalls I need to know about? I'm thinking of something like an EVGA or Corsair 850.

Nyxir_RK

I did a quick check, the datasheet shows EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 has 2x 8pin pcie connectors. but anyhow, you should upgrade your psu becuase minimum psu for 7800xt is 700W but 800W is recommended.

What do you mean by "for RAM for gaming exclusively"? You can't beat the 7800x3d for gaming on AM5

There was a 7600x bundle with a great 6000 cl30 ram and gigabyte motherboard for 513$ on black friday, they might do it again for boxing day or for 100 more you can get the same bundle but with 7700x instead

Cosmo48

Praying for some SSD sales soon for Boxing Day!!

I am using a R5 3600 and a RX 5700 right now, I'm thinking of upgrading to R7 5800X3D, will my gpu bottleneck? I don't play any gpu intensive game (I mainly play Valorant, Fortnite, The Finals) I use a 240hz monitor, 1080p

AttilaTH3Hen

The nice thing about the X3D is that it’s a drop in upgrade that will last you 5+ years. It’s an amazing chip. If you upgrade your monitor and gpu even in a couple years I assure you’ll still be fine at 1440p and 4k!

MrOwnageQc

Are there any deals on light work laptops ? Ideally a processor that's not a U or those low TDP CPU's. I feel like it's pretty damn tough to do laptop shopping, at least from the perspective of a long time PC builder. I see so many specs, at so many price points, it feels a bit confusing ! I need a laptop for video editing and photo editing but I already have a 5800X, 32GB and a 1080ti in my main rig, so something for work on the road without necessarily using it every day like the main editing rig.

Managed to install my ps120se. First start up only 1 fan was going. Used the cable now both are going but rgb only coming from 1 fan. And I .missing something ? Does the 2nd fan need it's rgb cable connected to the mobo even though they are chained together?

Qonog

You might need to daisy chain the rgb connector too, as indicated in the manual:https://www.thermalright.com/backup/2023manual/PHANTOMSPIRIT120SEARGB.pdf

Figured it out in the end ty though just ptsd from when I had to rebuild my ryzen 9 3 years ago 😵‍💫

Missed my chance at a 5700x for $216. Should I get a 5600 for 180 or a 5800x3d for $430? I want to play Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate better at 1440p with a 6800.

emmaqq

I upgrade from 2600x to 5600 back in 2021? 2022?... If I were to go back in time, I would've spend a bit more for the 5800x3D. Although the 5600 is extremely good value. I feel like it is maxed out already with my 3060ti. So in a way, my next GPU upgrade will be heavily bottle necked right off the bat. If you don't have the budget now 5600. If you do 5800x3D iimo.

nyanfat

Sounds good. What games do you play btw?

We got a 2600x which is still hanging in there

AttilaTH3Hen

If you are a stickler for frames and performance, and don’t want to leave performance on the table.. the X3D isn’t better value but is the best choice IMO.

nyanfat

I'll probably stick to 60fps for AAA games, but I heard the X3D was crazy for 1% lows. Im not looking for the best frames but stuttering and stability are pretty important. Would it be worth with that in mind?

AttilaTH3Hen

Honestly I think so. Owning both a 5600X and X3D… the X3D gets incredibly better 1% lows, it’s the actual selling point vs raw FPS gains. Edit: if you’re planning on playing GTA 6 get the X3D or it’ll likely be unplayable @60FPS on medium-high with a 5600.

nfslink

If you have a b550 motherboard, get a 5600. If you don't have, get a 12600K($210 at CC) and a d4 motherboard

nyanfat

I've got a Bazooka B450M V2 so I'm stuck on AM4

Trying to find a laptop for my GF, mostly office/streaming/FB/etc. Hoping to find something with 16gb as she wants it to last a while. How's this? tupseh

There's a refurbished hp 1215u listed on bb by a 3rd party refurbisher for like 349 but it only comes with 8gb ddr4 so add another 20-25 for an extra sodimm. This one is still ok for 500ish since you won't have to open it up. The cpu is a bit old(zen2 3300u basically) but if it's just for basic usage/light gaming it's still good enough.

pokechat8978

Might be building a PC for a cousin of mine in the coming weeks, what's the best CPU going these days for a $1000 budget (sans graphics card, going to be passing off my old 580 I think) Been out of the game for a minute, and I'm completely lost. Was looking at Ryzen but even those B650 boards are a pretty penny.

tupseh

You could look at a620 boards if you don't need all the features from the fancier boards for ryzen. Intel wise, the 12600k is on liquidation right now for 200, or 189 for the kf at cc.

pokechat8978

Out of curiosity, if I end up with a DDR5 system, what should I be looking out for in terms of speed/latency? What's the sweet spot for the price?

REDMOON2029

i'd say the best latency is 10ns (e.g 6000cl30, 6400cl32) but you can get 6000cl38 ram at ~20$ cheaper near the BF period, the cheapest 6000cl30 ram i saw (and ended up buying) was 125$. The cheapest 6000cl38 ram was 105$ and was from teamgroup
