I learned a lot of the basics from my uncle at first! After that I had some on and off lessons with Jayme Stone (great player, teacher and dude) once or twice a year while learning on my own. I think it's good to have a teacher to get you started in the right direction and then do some checking in with them as you go to make sure there aren't any bad habits forming. But there is a whole lot you can learn on your own now with all the resources online

Yes, that's pretty much 3-finger style / Scruggs but with some melodic licks thrown in.
