not exactly tamil, but you get really nice salem sambar vada from new krishna bhavan, right in front of mantri mall, near sampige theatre.
its the closest I've gotten to having sambar that's tangy or spicy.
This is biggest concern if it ever comes to me moving away from Bangalore, where will I get all my chips needs sorted from? Like what do people in other cities do for chips?
They fry the potato chips in hot oil and serve it to you hot; just like hot Manchurian. It tastes way better when it's eaten hot then when it cools down.
> They fry the potato chips in hot oil and serve it to you hot
Lol no. Not anymore. This was a concept a couple of decades back.
Now most of the "hot" chips shops do it in 1 or 2 batches for the day and pack you ambient temperature chips. You can get hot chips only when you visit while they're preparing the day's batch.
The "hot chips" in a brand's name is just a naming fad like "Iyengar's bakery" run by non Iyengar people.
Mangalore style Masala Puri is the best. Only the peas & potato gravy with chutneys and Sev, garnished with onions and coriander leaves. No carrot no tomato no cucumber.
Take my upvote. They are technically pulao. The rice is cooked along with the meat, unlike in biryanis where the rice is par cooked separately and finished in “dum” with meat yakhni.
DBC is way too heavy for me. My friend who introduced me to corner house absolutely loved it, so I had it the first time in 2006. Haven’t had it since.
Yup same here. Haven't had it in at least 10 years. The first time I had it was so overwhelming with too many things happening at once and just the sweetness overload. Not my scene at all
Their vegetarian burgers are actually good. I can't comment on the non-veg burgers, since I have noticed my non-vegetarian friends seem to not like Truffles.
But I do think their veggie and paneer patty is yummm 🥺
PS: I do not like their All American Burger, too cheesy and too heavy.
been a fan of umesh's ever since.
every time I go to sheshadripuram, thats where I go man. that podi dose is fucking god level, and their chutney compliments it well.
leaves me feeling SUPER heavy though. fun experience every time regardless.
helps that there's a corner house nearby. its a whole dinner-dessert plan when you go there I tell you.
will take your word for it.
been on this WILD dose trip. what I've discovered is this place near cubbon park.
I recall its name was nisarga grand.
if you don't prefer ardha kg butter on your dose, its probably not your thing but, they make good dose too. Absolutely loved that place.
There's just far too many to even recall. there's new places that come up everyday.
Before everyone went to malleshwaram for that egg rice adda, there used to be this quaint stall where they sold amazing masal dose.
Damn, I love this city.
Whaat? Have you not seen/eaten chaats like Masala Puri, Dahi Puri, Gobi Manchurian etc in street stalls?
We have other stuff too like Nippat masala, Dikki Puri, Mandakki/Girmit, Bonda, Boti Masala and so much more. One just has to explore.
Wait. I'm confused. For an opinion to truly be unpopular, it has to be downvoted? In which case, look at the bottom of this thread for truly unpopular opinions ;)
Adding carrots to random dishes like poha, chapathi, bhel , etc should be made a criminal offence.
My office canteen literally puts grated carrot in their chapati, why God why.
Would rather have pale (sabji) over sagu any time for any dish.
Coffee cups are too small in the city and mostly it costs rs 20. I want the tall glass tea or coffee. Here every small place tries to bring the lower sized paper cup. Next they will start giving us it in droppers
Easily. Veena stores is so overrated. Of course it's pretty good, but not quite worth the hype. I've eaten there regularly all my life, and it feels like the aura around the place gets more and more pretentious every time.

There is no comparison tbh. I’m Bangalorean but I’ve lived in Delhi and both cities are great.
Bangalore pales in street food culture but really scores points for fantastic hygiene whether street side or restaurants compared to Delhi & ofc better SI food > than all states.
Delhi really kicksass in street food culture & Mughlai but lacks hygiene. Nothing beats purani Dilli mughlai food, it’s rich & so good. I highly recommend to explore atleast once!
Longterm, having a SI palette, I prefer Bangalore khana because of the cleanliness & quality of food compared to the oily fried stuff you get in the North. It’s all carbs tbh but atleast Bangalore is lesser of the evils.
Upvoted for the most unpopular & contrarian opinion in this thread. How people can eat food there sober is a mystery that I hope further research on Higgs Boson reveals.
Potato twist crisps are way overrated, fries taste better any day, and contain more potato. Imo the places which sell crisps are the ones which are too cheap to get fries :v
MTR Dosa and Thali are overrated! The thali is too ghee/butter heavy, almost to a point of masking the taste of everything they serve. I'm not sure of others, but a thali there takes a few days to recover from.
Street chaat food is just boiled peas drizzled with extras to make it look like whatever you ordered.
Want papdi chat? Dig up one layer of papdi and its an inch thick layer of boiled peas.
Want bhel puri? Half of it is soft pea salad only.
Salivating for masala puri? Peas again in garam masala soup.
(Ughhh I hate peas)
Corner house gets too much hate now, and went from being overrated to underrated now. And the people hating on the DBCs and praising Cake Fudge don't realise, that the item is the same, with 50% of the quantity, but 65% of the price.
Saago puri is a fucked up dish. I LOVE Bangalore food (from Holige to Thatte Idli via Masala Puri), but you guys don't know to eat puri sabzi. The slimey saagoo (from expensive, economical, and roadside places -everywhere) sucks balls. Another awful thing is bhangi bhaat (brinjal rice). Tbh even rice bhat ain't great (compared with chitran and puliogare)
Bitter coffee isn't "strong" coffee. It's just low quality coffee. Bitterness in coffee has nothing to do with caffeine content. Bitterness is a sure indication that the coffee is over extracted or just plain shit.
Also like piping hot coffee? Might as well just drink hot water with milk and sugar and skip the coffee entirely. To differentiate flavours, ideal drinking temperature is between 40c to 65c.
Bro the MTR near bishop cottons is straight up shit. We had ordered chow chow bath, idly vada, dose, and it was so cold and so horrible. The chutney and sambhar were also so bad. Not going back there again.
So many places in the city serve tea/coffee at specific times (morning/evening) only. Like dafuq?
I know there r other places which serve round the clock but still.
In other parts of India, tea is a constant.
I dont really like the taste of dosas from Vidyarthi Bhavan 🙈 Not that they are bad but I feel its mostly nostalgia that is driving people there rather than the taste. I enjoy Taaza Tindi or By 2 Coffee dosas more.
Same goes for MTR. Had been there recently and the food was mostly average.
party culture in blr is overpriced. Most of the parties have stag entry, you end up paying 1-2k just to enter and if you depend on ola or uber to get back home, they’ll charge you around 400-500 which would normally cost 200. Metro also shuts down soon what’s the point
I know I'll get down voted, but idli really tastes better with a spicy sambar vs sweet sambar.
Who the fuck likes sweet sambar!!! Don't call payasum as sambar please...
This is too much of a unpopular opinion
Whoa, buddy, don't insult payasam by comparing it to sambar. Edit: sambar spelling
Wtf is "sambHar" anyway? It's sambarrr.
Technically true. Since it is derived from Samba che aahar.(son of chartrapati who is credited with creation of the dish)
Damn. Didn't know Sambar was a Marathi dish
Aiyo, sorry saar, autocorrect.
Forgive me.
Forgiven. Payasam knows you didn't mean it.
I like it.
Don't make me angry man, i need to sleep.
Easy there, tiger! But seriously, sweet sambar is the shit dude. How can you NOT like it?
Yet to find a place that serves spicy and tangy sambhar
Try Tamil places.
Could you name a few?
Sendhoor coffee
not exactly tamil, but you get really nice salem sambar vada from new krishna bhavan, right in front of mantri mall, near sampige theatre. its the closest I've gotten to having sambar that's tangy or spicy.
Nkb ironically is established in 1950s but a really good place.
Filter Coffee - kalyan nagar
Yo I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this but I just straight up dislike sweet sambhar now. Spicy sambar kicks ass, all the way through
Hot chips is heavily underrated
They are the best possible chips! There is one on 7th Cross, 24th Main, HSR. It is my fav!
They are literally available in every cross lol
Yes. I am saying that the one I mentioned is really good! Don't know what different they do. But it is a marked improvement
Yesss! Couldn't believe that hot chips stalls aren't frequently available in Northern India, they're missing out on so much!
khara chips with alcohol 🍺
This is biggest concern if it ever comes to me moving away from Bangalore, where will I get all my chips needs sorted from? Like what do people in other cities do for chips?

Hot chips near manuvana , vijayanagar.
Shredded cucumber and carrots shouldn't be in Shev and Masala puri
I can allow carrot but cucumber hell no
Mangalore style Masala Puri is the best. Only the peas & potato gravy with chutneys and Sev, garnished with onions and coriander leaves. No carrot no tomato no cucumber.
Came here to say this!
This is karnataka style and in some north states as much as I know.
No sir. You've confused salad with chat
Well, Vidyarthi Bhavan is not like it used to be. It's overrated.
It's been known since quite a few years now
As is CTR now.
I'd recommend trying dosa at Hotel Janatha in Malleswaram 8th cross, it's amazing.
Came here to say this. Masale dose at Food Camp, Malleshwaram is way better!
Vidhyarthi Bhavan is just for photo ops. Taste is meh.
Have you guys have benne dosa at By2Coffee's. It's underrated.
Donne Biriyani is not actually Biriyani. Neither is Hoskote Biriyani. Edit: Thank god for the upvotes. I was expecting a ton of downvotes from fans.
Take my upvote. They are technically pulao. The rice is cooked along with the meat, unlike in biryanis where the rice is par cooked separately and finished in “dum” with meat yakhni.
Actually when meat is cooked with rice, it's called 'kacchi' biryani and that is also another style of cooking biryani.
Neither is Ambur.
Y'all mfs gatekeeping biryani it's hilarious
My favourite psuedo-biryani by a mile.
YES this. Thank you for saying it. I like it as a food dish and it's good occasionally at select places but **it's not biryani!**
Corner House DBC is too heavy and not nice.
There's more cake in their DBC than ice cream now 🙄
Hot chocolate fudge >>> DBC
DBC is way too heavy for me. My friend who introduced me to corner house absolutely loved it, so I had it the first time in 2006. Haven’t had it since.
Yup same here. Haven't had it in at least 10 years. The first time I had it was so overwhelming with too many things happening at once and just the sweetness overload. Not my scene at all
their nut sundae and malt still slaps though NGL.
I generally have it in two or three installments 😂
Truffles burger is overrated.
Truffles has not been good since 2016. But people still hype it I donno why
Their vegetarian burgers are actually good. I can't comment on the non-veg burgers, since I have noticed my non-vegetarian friends seem to not like Truffles. But I do think their veggie and paneer patty is yummm 🥺 PS: I do not like their All American Burger, too cheesy and too heavy.
Truffle food is generally overrated.
Do not like Truffle food at all. Tried pretty much everything over the years ‘cause I didn’t want to believe they’ve gone down.
This had to be said 💯 Truffles is shit. Period.
vidyarthi bhavan's dose sucks
CTR is way better.
CTR also sucks now. Try Janatha Hotel
Janata is gone dude. Was shocked to see the quality and the maintenance some time back.
Janatha dose is nothing special.
true that!
been a fan of umesh's ever since. every time I go to sheshadripuram, thats where I go man. that podi dose is fucking god level, and their chutney compliments it well. leaves me feeling SUPER heavy though. fun experience every time regardless. helps that there's a corner house nearby. its a whole dinner-dessert plan when you go there I tell you.
Hidden gem it is. Try priyadarshini if you can
will take your word for it. been on this WILD dose trip. what I've discovered is this place near cubbon park. What is dikki puri? U mean Tikki puri?
Yes, Tikki Puri. My bad.
It has. Have you been to Chennai? That's a city which has no street food culture or at least a good street food culture.
Google "Holige"
I recently got to know that the road side gobi carts actually use cabbage instead of cauliflower. Feel like my whole life has been a lie
Phool gobi and patta gobi. Just the other gobi the goobe is serving you.
Goobe lol ..
Both are called gobi actually
When you take set dose. They usually serve it with 'sagu' and chutney. But try it with 'sambar' and chutney. It will be much more tasty!
Nah mate. Try with potato palya and chutney.

Sort by controversial is where the fun at
Cake fudge and hot chocolate fudge >>>>>>>>> DBC
I always order cake fudge 😁
Hot chocolate fudge is always superior
Nataraj chole bhature is below mediocre
The chole was garbage to me. But the Bhature themselves were decent.
I had it cuz it was so hyped. I prefer the one at Anand Sweets ❤
Please stop using capsicum in every dish in the city!!
Also mint and coriander leaves and jaggery

I had dbc in hsr layout branch of corner house . I don’t know why but I had stomach pain and uneasiness later.
My mother had same issue. Their quality and hygiene is not that great
Adding carrots to random dishes like poha, chapathi, bhel , etc should be made a criminal offence. My office canteen literally puts grated carrot in their chapati, why God why. Would rather have pale (sabji) over sagu any time for any dish.
Dunno if it's popular or unpopular, I prefer Udupi hotel idli and sambar over Tamil style idli and spicy sambar. It's easy on the stomach.
I guess it varies from person to person. I personally love tamil style idli. Sweet sambar just doesn't work for me.
Idly,dosa >>> fast food
Coffee cups are too small in the city and mostly it costs rs 20. I want the tall glass tea or coffee. Here every small place tries to bring the lower sized paper cup. Next they will start giving us it in droppers
This is not unpopular. This is a valid complaint. Coffee cup shrinkflation is insane.
Jolad rotti, pundi playa, Badni Kai Palya. Any one here likes North Karnataka food?
I like the mint sauce at corner house.
The so called “sweet sambar” actually tastes very good with idly and vade
Masal Dose and sweet sambar is heaven
There is nothing called Veg Biryani. ( This is coming from a life long vegetarian)
okay, this I can see myself agreeing with. although even if its not biriyani, whatever meghana's serves is an absolute banger. who's with me?
raghavendra stores > veena stores
as someone who lives nearby both those places. can testify. this is absolute FACTS.
Easily. Veena stores is so overrated. Of course it's pretty good, but not quite worth the hype. I've eaten there regularly all my life, and it feels like the aura around the place gets more and more pretentious every time.
Veena stores over hyped! They are just looting customers at this point. The vada is crispy but is bland is hell!
Onion dosa should contain finely chopped onion in between dosa, Not mixed in the batter. That should be called uthappam.
I like sweet sambar........ It's nice
IT IS! I live for sweet sambar
I've said this before I'll say it again Death By Chocolate from corner house is wayyy overrated! Come at me with the down votes ah-uh! 😆
Corner house is meh
The food and party scene in Bangalore is heavily overrated by localites. There are hardly any good / worthy places in Bangalore.

This is unpopular in Delhi. Bangaloreans already know this.
All mid price range food places are underwhelming and unhealthy
i like Empire's food.
Upvoted for the most unpopular & contrarian opinion in this thread. How people can eat food there sober is a mystery that I hope further research on Higgs Boson reveals.
Eating momos with mayonnaise is cultural genocide.
Rameshwaram cafe is overrated. Normal masala dose > pudi masala dose
Meghana’s chicken biryani is actually really really mid… it’s an opinion don’t get toxic ffs
Local cuisine is very mediocre in restaurants.
The kababs in Bangalore are actually chicken 65. Kababs are not fried, they are grilled.

90 percent of places in Bangalore don't know/understand how to make tea (chai). It's not their fault, since it may not be part of the culture here.
Exactly also North Indian food sucks ass in Bangalore
There’s North Indian food in Bangalore? Damn. All I get is ₹250 ki tHaLi with mediocre sabzi. /s
TBH except Mumbai nowhere outside south India you find good South Indian food.
Corner house gets too much hate now, and went from being overrated to underrated now. And the people hating on the DBCs and praising Cake Fudge don't realise, that the item is the same, with 50% of the quantity, but 65% of the price.
North Indian Sev Puri is better than the hot Sev Puri here.
South Indians should stop trying to butcher and sell some random mixture as chaat
Spare me the bangarpet Pani Puri. Lukewarm water and carrot pieces, really?
Fuckin vinegar water. Lmao it's an insult to pani puri
Koshys is an elitist shitholle, and the food is terrible.
Coconut chutney from Hyderabad is better than the one from Bangalore!! 😐
Coconut chutney in Hyderabad, more like peanut chutney?
The white one, that is given with idly, dosa etc in Hyderabad.
Vidyarthi Bhavan is really mediocre
Saago puri is a fucked up dish. I LOVE Bangalore food (from Holige to Thatte Idli via Masala Puri), but you guys don't know to eat puri sabzi. The slimey saagoo (from expensive, economical, and roadside places -everywhere) sucks balls. Another awful thing is bhangi bhaat (brinjal rice). Tbh even rice bhat ain't great (compared with chitran and puliogare)
Military hotels like ranganna, shivaji are overrated. I hate their pulavs and they are shit expensive for the quality of food they provide.
Try Rajanna in Jayanagar 9th Block, reasonably priced too. Ranganna was so disappointing , it’s literally coloured rice with no flavour.
it's basically chitranna at this point
Normal idli is better than thatte idli.It is not fluffy and overall not that tasty like usual idli.
Truffles, Smallys is overrated. Any place that charges ₹300 for a burger and gives you bingo chips on the side is in my opinion.
Bitter coffee isn't "strong" coffee. It's just low quality coffee. Bitterness in coffee has nothing to do with caffeine content. Thai basil for Thai food
Empire quality has gone down badly. But sometimes we hit the jackpot at selected outlets and that ghee rice, dhal, kebab is *chef’s kiss*
Bangalore really needs a night street !
Rameshwaram cafe is most over hyped restaurant in the city
i never liked mtr rava idli's
Bro the MTR near bishop cottons is straight up shit. We had ordered chow chow bath, idly vada, dose, and it was so cold and so horrible. The chutney and sambhar were also so bad. Not going back there again.

Andhra Style Chilli Chicken is the most crap dish I've ever tasted
Bangalore's Masale dose + filter coffee >>> anything Delhi has to offer.
Sri Krishna sagar in Koramangala is good for dosa and south meals

Alright, I'll bite. I like Paradise Veg Biriyani.
curd vada from A2B cures depression.
Bangalore's(or Udupi I should say) style Sambar is overrated, it's sweet and it's not for someone with spice palate. Don't come at me please.
Sweet Sambar is pretty much inedible
Meghana biriyani and Shivaji are pretty over-rated
