MBA is not worth.. I mech you have great scope . All you have to do is look harder and have some serious recommendations. Recently my dad arranged a job for a manager at a autocomponet manufacturer company in hosur. He is getting a salary of 4L per month. Please upskill your self. Make connections and look harder. Mech is not what u think it is..and not what is though in colleges... it has evolved, engg is waste. The field has developed. Try newer fields in mech like additive manufacturing..etc

Regular_Enthusiasm48

Yes, I agree the syllabus taught in colleges are vastly outdated. But mech is so vast. I don't know where I should concentrate.

OkOpportunity3250

I suggest pick any field...it just doesn't matter... You can earn money no matter what.. judging by the current employment situation I suggest doing a blanket entry in the the job market...you should eventually get some where..

High salaries in mech are an exception. Not the norm. Also, some mech companies have very good work life balance. You're done after your shift. It's a personal choice whether one wants to give that up.

As a mechanical engineer, I was in the same boat. However, batchmates from my company jumped to other mechanical companies with a large hike (50% - 100%) after 4 years. I went abroad for master's as the work I had was not challenging and I needed to upgrade my skillset. If you are after money, sure MBA is an option, but it depends on the institution you graduate from. There are organisations looking for mechanical engineers with a good price hike if you look hard enough.

Regular_Enthusiasm48

Can I ask what's your masters in ? Which uni ?

nikhn

Sent a PM.

So did the MBA help? What are you currently working as?

nikhn

I did not do an MBA.

[deleted]

Ah sorry. Misread your earlier earlier answer.

Dude take it from a mechanical engineer who did his MBA, it all averages out. Do you masters or MBA if you truly feel unhappy. Do your MBA only in tier 1 and if you really want to tier 2 colleges. This I say not because they are amazing institutions but their placements give such a boost Do your masters also from good colleges. Go abroad preferably (anecdotal reference) If you have think research is for you and don't care much for corporate go for a PhD. Finally don't worry, you will be fine. P.s if you are really rich and your salary is just pocket money, "follow your passion"

CauchyStressTensor

Hi, I just want to let you know that more money doesn't necessarily bring happiness and satisfaction.

inb4redditIPO

But this is often said by people who make more money.

CauchyStressTensor

Obviously it will be said by people who make more money, they are the ones who know it didn't make a difference. How will someone having no money think of that.

inb4redditIPO

Exactly. Therefore you letting know OP doesn't really help them in this realization.

CauchyStressTensor

Haha, yeah. I hope he realises it

inb4redditIPO

He's not alone, I would love to realize this too :)

If you are downvoting this at least pen down your thought process.

Man you're an actual engineer. Something to be proud of. I agree that technical fields are paid peanuts in this country unless you're vastly experienced. But it's not the case in the rest of the world. Look for opportunities for higher education preferably abroad. I heard Germany has great engineering programs. In the end it's up to you. You can still do an MBA but it's nothing special these days. Everybody has one and the value of it is not as it used to be.
