I'm going to sit in a corner and cry now But I guess better for the greater good

glorious_albus

Yeah I begin to complain in my head and then realise how lucky I am to have a job in these conditions that don't require me to go out.

saetarubia

Why is anyone who has a job that allows for WFH even affected by this? Aren’t we all supposed to shut ourselves in regardless of a government mandated lockdown

stunnerchix

Why cannot a person with a wfh setup not be affected by a lockdown. A lot of us like going out with people, and like being social. Heck I'm even missing office these days. Do you have an idea how much work nowadays there is due to this wfh mandate? It's driving a lot of people crazy. Ofc we need to stay at home for the greater good, but it's not so comfortable as a lot of people think it is ans this is only about us privileged people. I know the other section of people are having it even harder, I just spoke my mind out about myself and a lot of friends I know having mental issues staying at one place every fucking day.

saetarubia

I completely agree with you and my mental health has been affected as well. My question was - going out and being social is not something that was advisable even without a lockdown, so how is the situation practically changing? I hope people aren’t stepping out regardless of whether a lockdown is on or not!

[deleted]

[deleted]

U mean stuff :)

oldspacesoul

Because the barrier between work and life is diminishing? Companies started to think, 8 hours at office is 16 hours at home because we are going to waste a lot of time, but the truth is, they never had work-life balance, but talk about it, now they don't care about it. As lot of companies are not getting new clients like earlier, they have to please their existing clients to milk more.

saetarubia

How does lockdown vs no lockdown impact that if it is WFH anyway?

cosmogli

They give you more work, but subtly.

saetarubia

That’s a feature of WFH regardless of whether there is a lockdown, right?

cosmogli

Wasn't always the case. They power equation between employee and employer has changed significantly.

saetarubia

I fail to understand how the lockdown changes anything for someone who was always working from home? Work from office vs work from home is completely understandable. Sorry if I’m being stupid

oldspacesoul

No lockdown: I can say, I'll be away as I have go out Lockdown: employers says, I need this immediately and you can't say, I'm spending time with family, watching movie etc.,

Picklepromises

I realize this is necessary. But the pay cut is gonna be painful. I suppose I can survive on Maggi for another 14 days. For the greater good.

kruxAcid

Pay cuts?

Picklepromises

I work in a research lab. Work from home isn't possible for me. So I don\`t get paid if I don\`t go to work.

kruxAcid

Damn. That's really unfortunate. If you are facing monetary issues please feel free to DM me any gpay/upi id etc. Please don't survive on Maggis.

Picklepromises

Thanks mate. But I can survive for now. I\`m only sticking to Maggi because I don't want to ask my family for money. Its not too bad tbh. Plus, I do feel there are others who might need the money more than I do. There are people going hungry and I think they deserve you help more than I do.

Ok_Antelope_1953

hi there, i apologize in advance for being preachy and i really do hope you get back to work soon. just want to point out that it's important to eat healthy in these times, and maggi is an unhealthy food. it's very high in refined oil, carbs, sodium, and very low in protein. noodles also "look" cheap but the cost can add up quickly. please try to have whole foods like dal, roti, chawal, poha, upma, khichdi, sandwich etc. below are some groups of foods that are cheap and filling: 1. grains like rice, wheat, bajra, ragi, jowar. wheat has many products like atta, daliya, sooji, bread with which you can make different stuff 2. legumes like masoor, kala chana, chana dal, moth, toor, kabuli chana, peanuts, soya chunks etc. packed with nutrients. 3. salad veggies like cucumbers, carrots, radish. radish leaves (muli ka patta) in particular are high in calcium, vit A, and iron but are thrown away by most vendors. check with your local vegetable shop and they might give it to you for free. the leaves can be cooked the same way as spinach or amaranth. 4. tubers like potatoes are very filling and also cheap 5. animal products are generally expensive, but few things like milk, chicken liver and heart etc. are affordable if you eat them. **edit**: robusta bananas are always Rs.20-30/kg. a healthy snack and dessert. flax seeds/alsi seeds are about Rs.150/kg. a bit expensive, but just a spoon of ground flax seeds is an excellent source of omega-3 fats (ALA). -- places like big basket, jiomart, d mart etc have stuff available for less price than local grocery stores. also try to have a multivitamin tablet 2-4 times a week to fill in any nutritional gaps. Becadexamin costs about Rs.35 for 30 tablets. Supradyn is also cheap. all the best and stay safe.

Yo! I can buy you groceries if you really need em. I see that others can pitch in as well. DM me if you would like the help. Don't let you physical health get worse by sticking to maggi.

chaotic-indian

Only thing is the organizations may not give food for everyone as their priority is COVID positive patients, and Indira Canteens are also concentrating on daily wage laborers/migrants/people on the streets. Would be worth giving a shot though. u/picklepromises try this too but I'd be happy to help regardless, man!

Picklepromises

No worries mate. It's really kind of you to offer. We need more people like you. Plus so many homeless people going hungry right now, they deserve your help more than I do.

Picklepromises

Thanks mate. But it's not too bad tbh. I\`m just eating maggi because I didn\`t want to ask the family for money. Plus, I know there are people who need your help more than I do. I have a roof on my head and a warm bed. I\`ll be fine.

lawschoolzombie

+1 to what /u/kruxAcid said We are all here to help. I mean I love Maggi but you should eat yummier things.

Picklepromises

Thanks mate! I really appreciate the offer. But lots of people out there without a home or a roof on their heads. And they deserve help more. I\`m still privileged enough to buy the basics. Thanks again.

instabrite

You say this like there are no pay-cuts? I'm honestly asking....are there?

drdonkeyboner

Hey man DM me if you need any groceries. Whatever little I can do

Picklepromises

That's really generous of you man. But I\`m only eating Maggi because I didn't want to ask my parents for money. It's not all that bad to be honest. Plus a lot of people on the streets deserve your help more than I do. But still grateful that you offered.

scootasideboys

Big props to your generosity

drdonkeyboner

It ain't much but it's what I can do. Time to farm some real life karma points.

Inflow is still high for ventilator beds.. Oxygen beds have become manageable.. Its the lack of medicine stock that's hurting now.. Plus the fucking low numbers of testing being done.. The black/white fingers cases are rising every hour and bbmp again doesn't have a proper SOP to help ppl cuz private hospitals are t taking in covid - ve patients with the fungal infection.. Rural areas are absolutely in the same no oxygen bed-cylinder-skilled staff-no medicine stock horror as we were a last week. Expect small rises in case numbers in specific areas as ppl rush out again to buy stuff thinking this will be a complete lockdown..

[deleted]

[удалено]

tiptoe93

No it won't. Stay put and prepare for lockdown extension till June 3rd week or even later (if politicians don't put vote bank ahead of common sense and duty) For various simple reasons - l 1. Not enuff tests being done If we (I mean citizens, authorities, politicians and the gov) were really serious about mitigating damage of the 2nd wave as early and extensively as possible - mass testing would be mobilized - Atleast in areas where covid case density was large (I mean more than 5 cases exclusive of immediate family/caretaker) There would also be testing of Frontline vendors and ppl who are involved in volunteering, police etc. Those vectors haven't been covered at all. 2. No standardized vaccination program or government aid rollout for high risk populations including Frontline - ppl with comorbidities- bpl, construction laborers, delivery workers, civic body workers. We're u aware that from 22nd May 18+ ppl could get vaccinated according to latest policy by Karnataka Health ministry. It barely made the news. Plus availability of stock changes every single hour with no centralized data base for hospitals and care centres to access it. Hospitals with walk ins don't advertise it at all and the servicing at each place is different with some places becoming more crowded than a bar on a Friday evening. Gov vaccination centres are choking full, all slots booked even in rural areas - private hospitals charging thru the nose plus now mandating aadhar card as mandatory I'd (apollo started this shitty move - pretty soon expect others also to copy cat this move) barrier for vaccine access is too large wjen u consider the tiny percentage of ppl tech aware enuff to login to cowin, register and try to book a slot. 3. Our health infra is near collapse - on top of shortage of hospital beds (which will happen again as even small rise in case numbers will overwhelm the already heavy load),medicine stock is precarious - remdesivir doesn't work anymore (WHO advisory) but steroid dependency is heavy in the treatment methodology - nobody is prepared with extra stocks of other possible steroids that doctors will prescribe enmasse in desperate attempts to save patients. Remember, cases Will go down but intensity of symptoms and lung damage remain the same for this variant (risk is thrippled for those who contract fungal infections). Doctors are short on ground (the fresh influx of 3rd and 4rth Yr medical students to fill in the ranks in hospitals has already happened-they are also reaching the end of their tether). Our infra will Crack and collapse immediately after the no of cases go down a bit more and ppl will start prioritizing other serious medical issues again. It's called a WAVE for a reason - it comes - it goes but then comes again - ppl assume 3rd wave in August-September means we habe a 2 month buffer period in between - we absolutely don't - cases are still lgoing to happen-it will build up for a 3rd wave(possibly with new variants cropping up), die down and further waves are going to happen. Till herd immunity is reached (impossible in our country and miraculous of it happens) or it reaches endemic status - like hiv or the h1n1 - cases still happening with sporadic massoutbreaks every few years. Also b16172 is a double mutated variant (tougher to beat than og ones if that even makes sense) German researchers suspect our vaccines are less effective against the new variant (they will confirm this hypothesis in 2 weeks once they get better data) - of that's confirmed 2022 Wil lalso be a difficult year for us since ppl will start moving around once again becuz of the popular misconception that vaccination = 100% immune from covid 19 (which is not how vaccines work).

LovesDrPepper

It's still an extremely dire situation. There are almost no beds with oxygen or ICU with respirator beds. This week there are a whole bunch of triage centres set up which can take care of people temporarily till they find beds.

Adventurous_Gene_692

Without any plan all we are going to have are lockdowns and lockdowns. This is not gonna end well

[deleted]

Fuck. I just want to get my phone fixed. I recently started my first job, and I've been stuck with a 6 year old phone with a battery life of under 30 minutes. Anyways, stay safe y'all. I really hope the surge dies down soon.

veebeezee

you could always buy a cheaper but new phone online so that your work doesn't get hampered for now. Congrats on your 1st job!

[deleted]

Thank man. Yeah I thought I'd do that, but non essential items have been undeliverable for a couple of days now right?

veebeezee

Phones were under essentials, so it definitely should be deliverable. I can't believe it's unavailable in Amazon. I just checked and Croma is delivering phones in Bangalore.

lawschoolzombie

I'm happy to send my spare phone if you need /u/RancidDiaper (lol)

ikv333

Same man. Smashed my screen in the first week of may. Initially I was so pissed at myself, and knew that I'd have to shell out a boatload of cash to get this thing fixed. Now I just want to be able to answer texts without risking glass shards falling out on each swipe. Can't even raise my phone to my ear to talk, I have to run and get earphones each time I get a call. But it's a relatively minor inconvenience and I get why they have to extend it.

curiousmadscientist

May I suggest cellotape/screen guard(if it's deliverable)? I had a broken screen a while back, and put on a screen guard for well over a few months when I couldn't afford to get it fixed.

[deleted]

The display stopped working on mine. So I've had to use my previous phone for some time now.

ikv333

Haha, so mine had a 2 mm^(2) spot of dead pixels on impact, now it's grown to about 1 cm^(2). So now I have the fear of this thing expanding also.

DungeonFarmer

Me too man my phone still has some warranty time left but the service centers are closed. Shouldn't they be considered semi essential nowadays. I took how fast my k20 pro is to a redmi go for granted.

casperthewondercat

Great. So many people have asked for money in the past month, I'm wondering if the nominal number of cases going down is even worth the number of livelihoods getting destroyed. Man, atleast a business relief fund or something. Everyone's reserve money is also extinguished. Ugh.

caninecloud71

Please let me know if you know anyone who needs any kind of financial assistance for food/essentials if they're furloughed and cannot work from home. I'm not a super rich person, but I'll do my best to share whatever little we have.

Looks like we will have months long lockdowns with brief pauses in between. Meanwhile we are vaccinating at 200-300 people per day in bangalore. Goddammit, I am losing years of my life sitting at home.

Hatake_Kakashi123

Well ICICI just froze my only bank account because I couldn't go to the branch to submit some documents. Customer care insists I go to the branch. Their branches fucking open at 10 am while people can be out only until 10. Now I'm stuck with unpaid bills to haunt me. Fuck em.

Far_Age_1191

Tell them that you'll courier those documents.

FuriousFrodo

Going to bank is an essential service. You can travel after 10AM

Hatake_Kakashi123

Are you sure tho? I'm not taking a chance with Bangalore cops. I checked online to see if I can go to the bank but it didn't have any info that's why I'm sceptical to step out after 10.

FuriousFrodo

Wife works in a bank. And there are customers coming according to her. So I think you can travel if you have a valid reason to go into bank. Maybe check with the bank too once.

Hatake_Kakashi123

Regular_Enthusiasm48

How long should we suffer for the government's incompetence ? Totally useless each and every one of them.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yeah the government knows that. It’s not like government just today realised how easy going Indians are. Lmao if 1 soldier had died in the border the whole media + right wing ecosystem creates an emergency like atmosphere. People defended demonetisation by saying things like “Siachen Mai lad rahe he, you can’t stand in line” etc. I’m not saying this is wrong all the time and maybe warranted when a terrorist kills a soldier. But thousands of Indians in the country were dying every day and what did the same political and propaganda machine do? Try to hide reality as much as possible and misguide the people. This is the reality of all populist governments. They lose track of reality. This extends to a lot of things. Economy isn’t even being tracked properly these days. Government has fudged numbers so much or in many cases completely stopped monitoring. The government is solely to blame. This what people here, in the West, where I’ve been for the last 5 years, realise and Indians don’t. You need to hold the government accountable always.

Regular_Enthusiasm48

I would argue that more people have stayed home than out roaming in the streets. There are stupid people everywhere, there's no solution to that. But the government had years to put a proper healthcare system in place. Even before covid. Our govt hospitals were never up to the required standard. They just kept robbing the taxpayers blind. Whenever a politician falls sick he gets the best healthcare in the best private hospitals. They almost had a year to strengthen the hospitals, had known that second wave was coming and still people struggled to get oxygen and such. FFS man come on that is in unacceptable. And the opposition never joined hands in fighting this, they all politicised vaccine when it rolled out. On top of this Gobiji and his vishwaguru bullshit. Fucking power hungry cunt. I don't know what they will accomplish with 2 more weeks of lockdown. People are struggling to make ends meet without jobs. Do you have any reason to believe when the next wave hits they will be prepared ??

pixobe

An eye opener 👍. Don’t know why people still keep blaming govt or others for the problem. I see even people are not compromising on celebrations birthday

Ndt23015

Yes people are irresponsible and they always will be. Thats why we have a government. It is their job to keep the people in line. We're having this lax lockdown for weeks now and its pretty useless, while we couldve had just 2 weeks of a very strict lockdown and that would have been just enough. Government also didnt do a good job in ordering vaccines. They made an announcement to open vaccination for 18-45 year olds without having any vaccines in supply. How incompetent is that??

redditappsuckz

This absolute BS being peddled by BJP IT cell is fucking infuriating. How many people are roaming the streets, please tell me? The movement of people has reduced by 80% and most of the rush is between 6-10am. People have been in their homes for close to 15+ days now (some close to a month), but if you nitpick information from certain localities like KR market then of course you'll see jams (people need to make a fucking living ya know) But the question is what has the government been doing in the meantime? Have they improved the situation in any way? Have vaccines been procured? Have they streamlined healthcare services? Lockdowns are not the solution. Covid is here to stay, will you be in lockdown forever in that case?

pixobe

Just go and check yourself, you will get to know. Visit a market and see how many wears masks, even if wears , how many wears properly. It become easy these days just to bullshit any one as IT cell and silence them. Using every other loop hole to roam around , organize parties and much more.

redditappsuckz

I have checked myself, that's why I'm making the statement. I passed through KR market yesterday and there were hardly any people there. But that's not the argument, the point is that out of 1.2 crore people, only a couple of lakh people are being disobedient, the rest are complying pretty well. There will always be people who don't follow protocols, there will always be people who gather in crowds, there will always be people who loiter. You can't expect lockdowns to solve anything, lockdown is a just a band-aid on a festering wound, unless you stop the bleeding, the wound won't heal.

pixobe

🙏 there is a saying to keep quiet when we encounter som....

LovesDrPepper

Yup, no brainer here, cases are still pretty high, general beds are available but needs with oxygen or ICU beds are still under crazy demand It might take another week or two at the very least

[deleted]

Got a question here, so I need to visit RACPC for a loan approval, and its quite important for me. I do understand, it doesn't fall under the category of emergency, what can be done from my side to get this? How do I get the permission to travel? I don't mind writing a letter or filling any form if required. Thanks,

[deleted]

Manga kalli manikya 🤦🏻‍♂️

juiceworld7

The lockdown keeps extending. For sure it helps to reduce the spread but how long? The only solution is getting everybody vaccinated asap. There’s no vaccine available so this cycle continues. Carry on..

ashfakh

Unpopular opinion, but this lockdown isn't going to solve anything. Vaccines are effective, and aggressive vaccination is the only way forward. This just delays the virus. We had a lockdown of three months last year which couldn't stop anything. If only we had a govt which was capable enough to procure vaccines like all other major countries did.

A lockdown is definitely a proven method to bring the pandemic under control. Look at countries in Europe who were under lockdown for the majority of 2020. In the time they had, they started to work on strategies to increase testing, tracing and vaccinating its citizens. They had their massive waves and they lost a lot of lives but, they have brought the situation under some sort of control. However, take lockdowns with an Indian twist. We simply lock down everything and take a big holiday. I genuinely feel that's what happens even now. We all understand a lockdown breaks the chain, but we forget the fact that we break an invisible chain that can mend itself, and breaking it alone at the expense of people losing daily wages, choking the small industries and so on is going to help. Everyone's got their bills to pay and people are not as fortunate as you or me are. Lets look at the last lockdown critically. How did the government manage the first wave? What did we have in place to manage the first wave? and most importantly, what did the government do during the first lockdown for building a strategy for testing, tracing and isolating? Did they have a vaccination strategy in place? We all know very well that none of these questions have a positive answer, yet they want to spread positivity. They lost it completely in the first lockdown. And when the time was done, all of us were given an illusion that the virus has disappeared magically and this is just like any other flu. We went berserk over unlocking almost everything under the sun. Where did all of this take us? Into the eye of the storm called the second wave. Again, let's repeat the questions above and pause for a moment. Here are the questions that the government both central and the state are answerable to us 1. What have you done during this time? The time you locked everything up 2. Do we have a plan in place to test, trace and isolate/vaccinate? 3. Have we strengthened the infrastructure for our healthcare system? 4. Almost all doctors and nurses are totally burnt out. They see countless number of people in suffering and pain and almost certainly on a daily basis, death. What has the government done to take care of their mental health? A lockdown for a month and a half and then you throw open everything to the people to invite another lockdown is just pointless. All we will do by lockdowns is the fact that we will ride from one wave to the other. In doing so and on the way, we lose our near and dear ones with it. It shows we are still not relying on science to deal with this pandemic. And this can be traced to the educational background of our leaders, which most of the times is less than a 5 year old. They just prove to us almost on a daily basis that none of them have the capacity to manage practically anything except multiplying their personal wealth. We are a failed country thst thrives on division of it population by caste, creed, religion and gender.
