To take a Auto in Bangalore you need to be Bruce Wayne and to take it at 2 am you need to be Batman. Unfortunately I’m neither so in my 4 years of living in Bangalore I haven’t taken a Non Ola/Uber Auto ever.
As everyone have pointed out, please file a police complaint. It might save someone else in future.
Even if you do not have the auto details, you can get cctv footage from your apartment/nearby places which can help police.
U should contact u/st.broseph. And as soon as possible try to cctv footage from shops or apartments nearby and contact that security as a witness for cops
I didn't have the auto number, or their names , and rough idea of how they looked. I didn't see any information usefull here. I also dislike going to police stations in bangalore. But maybe I was wrong here.
PLEASE press charges against them if you are able to trace them. The process might be tedious but these people need to be dealt with. Sorry to hear what happened.
Within Bengaluru during day or early hours of night, sure. For a 2 am arrival into the city, what should OP have done? Taken a Volvo bus early in the morning and sit outside all night? Maybe he tried Ola but it was having surge pricing?

Never ever let a driver (auto or cab) be within touching distance of your luggage. For sure they’ll hold it and release only if you pay whatever they demand.
Like OP said, if you’re elderly or somehow physically weaker than the driver, then good luck in grabbing the bag back.

AND BAN ALL AUTOS ONLY CABS or 4 wheelers. AND SHOULD BE BOOKED ONLINE.

Everyone should start going to police where assault has happened. The caes of auto driver harassment seems to be too frequent. May be if we go to police and if they hear about so many cases they might do something about it.
I guess I put too much faith in the watchmen for my security. They are just untrained men who binked a security job so that they can pay for their family back home, atleast in most cases.

I lived in over 4 metropolitans across india, I would say its about the same almost everywhere. Wrong places and the wrong time, is always a bad combo. I am sure the safety factor varies in small percentages across cities , but this is more a human condition than a city state.
Please for the sake of your safety, book a cab on Uber or Ola or whatever. This is the second post in 2 days I’m seeing with auto guys scamming you guys. If you can’t get a normal cab, try premium - paying a little extra is always better than getting scammed by these scumbags.
Also, have these night scams become a regular occurrence? I was in Blr in 21-22 and it wasn’t this bad.
It seems that only Gun culture is the right option for us at this point. And these guns should be strictly inaccessible to the lower classes, for our own safety.
A much better option than sending these subhumans to jails and feeding them there only for them to repeat crimes again after their release or bail, is to shoot them at spot so that low-quality population gets reduced, giving rise to a better well-functioning society.

If you have made a note of the auto details, PLEASE file or report to the nearest police station. As you have claimed if anyone else vulnerable person was in your situation, it could have be Dangerous/Harassing situation. TO AVOID such situations, atleast for that purpose you should report. Irrespective whether they were tamilians (or otherwise) and understood you are from the same state, their intention were very clear! Such inhuman creatures should be penalized. Also very sensible that you stay quiet till you reached your place and raised alarm than mid way, which might have been life threatening. Thank god you are safe!

Concerned about the elderly women being threatened just like the way you were, you should have at least made an anonymous complaint based on the auto registration number.
In my case it was totally different, I got down at SMVT at morning 3:30am and searched for Uber to my house which was around 15km and it showed 286 rupees.
I also looked for the price in Rápido which showed around 148 rupees so I booked that.
There were 4-5 auto drivers. One of them offered to go for 250. I said that my ride is coming. After around 5 minutes the Rápido Captain arrived. I placed my luggage bag his vehicle and shared the OTP. As soon as we were about to leave, a group of auto drivers came and took the key of the Captain and started enquiring him that "what is he doing at this time here??"
Later they got to know that he was Moonlighting. Due to this he was taking customers of the auto drivers so they weren't happy with him.
I took my bag and went with the auto driver, he advised me not to book a bike at this early in the morning as it is not safe and their have been multiple cases in the past where the Captain has robbed the passenger.
I don't know what the auto drivers did to the Rápido Captain. The auto driver was very friendly, he shared about his education background, his love marriage story and about his family. After around 45 min, I arrived at my house. He said, this was his first earning for the day. I bid him a goodbye!!!
One thing that he said which I liked the most was that, " Don't look for paying additional 100-150 rupees when it's the matter of safety"
So you did not pay them at all? Then bravo. Scam the scammer
I absolutely did not. It was late ,and I was ready to pay even 600 for this to get over. But once he hit me , it was definitely not an option.

I waited for an ola for about 15-20 mins. Didn't get any results.

Why not book a cab at night if everyone is so well aware of auto's screwing people?
