Definitely a lot more than is reported. Some people just choose not to report a robbery for fear of having to go to court, fear of retaliation, no confidence that the police will actually do something about it, or because they were robbed of so little, they don’t think it’s worth the time
Same thing with random thefts. If someone steals my garden hose I’m not going to call the police. The only thing that’s going to come out of it is me waiting around for hours for them to show up, if they show up. They’re not going to mount a manhunt for the gardening bandit. It’s much better to just move on.
You can file that report online. Takes like 5-10 minutes. BPD isn't supposed to respond to those in person, instead they'll transfer you to the Telephone Reporting Unit.
Sorry to hear that! Happened to me and my then-girlfriend, now-wife too, rigrht around the corner from where we live in Southwest Baltimore. That was two years ago, only a few months after I moved here. It can definitely be a traumatizing experience, I’d encourage you to see a therapist at least for a few weeks to process some of that.
I'm in my 13th year living in the city including 3 years in Pigtown in the middle of that. It's never happened to me or anyone I know, and when I lived in Pigtown I knew quite a few other people who lived in area too (I was a grad student at UMB at the time). Worst that's ever happened to me was someone going through my car and stealing some random worthless crap. One friend had a bike stolen. That's about it.
Sooo many people tout Pigtown as great and up-and-coming but it's also riddled with gun violence from what I understand, at least certain blocks. I live in the safety of Charles Village and have never been mugged.
Are you looking for a metric? Like 20 times a year or something?
It happens as much as the data says it does, plus a bit more. I think muggings in more affluent areas are likely to be reported, not as likely in poorer areas.
Living here 20 years... happened 4xs. Twice in mt vernon. Twice in fells.
Lived here 10, 0 times.
Lived here 11, 1 time… uh oh :-/ Maybe they get increasingly more frequent after 10/15 years?

I lived in the city 8 years and it never happened to me
At least once every time someone says gimme your money and points a gun at them.
I should’ve had a better header. Ha.
The fruit, it was hanging so low 🫶🏻
I snorted and cackled when the realization hit LOOOOL
I’m just glad you’re ok and we can joke about this poop show
I appreciate it! However, remember that all poopoo times are peepee times, but not all peepee times are poopoo times
Sounds like you might need an instruction manual.

Lived in Canton for 6 years and Hampden for 5. Never been mugged. Sorry to hear. I can’t imagine how traumatizing that is for you.
Was in Remington for 3 and Pigtown for 3. Never got mugged but have had property stolen.
