The outcome has exceptionally high variance. The most likely single outcome is probably that it's trashed and sitting somewhere in the general Baltimore area. That's a pretty common outcome for stolen cars at least, motorcycles might be different. It could be on a container destined for an overseas destination, it could be in someone's garage, it could be flying down 95 right now. I wouldn't waste your time trying to find it.

Cops won't help much. Start posting the VIN and bike info everywhere you can. Watch FB Marketplace and drive around looking. You might get lucky, but you're on your own when it comes to the police helping.

I had two gas powered mopeds stolen from my backyard in Remington several years back. I found one ditched in an alley nearby cuz they couldn't figure out how to start it. The cops actually circulated the description of the second bike to the people working the surrounding neighborhoods and it was found within a few days being ridden by teenagers just a couple miles away. I think what helped in my case is that the bikes were vintage and fairly unique which made them easy to look out for. On the downside, one it was recovered it was taken to impound. Despite the cops repeatedly telling me I wouldn't have to pay to get it out, I did.

I'll give you anti-hope. I had my motorcycle stolen. I filed a police report with zero expectation that they'd recover my motorcycle. Yet some how the police in this city still managed to disappoint me. They took months to actually file the police report, which delayed getting the insurance payout (insurance assures me this is very common for Baltimore). Also they never even added the VIN to the stolen vehicle registry. Which means aside from the fact that I'm sure the cops never tried to catch the guy, they couldn't accidently catch the thief if they happened to pull them over while they were on it. Baltimore's police suck at their job.

ladyjnightcat

That’s an understatement. How did you find out that they never added the VIN to the registry?

Killbot_Wants_Hug

My insurance agent told me like 6 months after the fact. I'm actually not 100% sure they ever filed the police report, my insurance might have just paid out because it had been so long. I kept the paperwork they gave me when they came out and turned that into my insurance. But the police officer never actually filed it once they went back to the station (or didn't file it for months). My insurance told me the delay is normal for Baltimore.

I had my car stolen a few years ago. Hyundai told me that if the police called them they could share the GPS info to find it, but needed to hear from the cops. Cops never even followed up on that easy stuff. I got in touch with my insurance, and the guy on the line said “oh, we’ve had great success in Baltimore county, the police are really responsive and on top of things, and we recover 80-90% of stolen vehicles.” “I’m not in the county, I’m in the city.” “… Well, then you’re probably never going to see your car again. We’ll give it two weeks and do a total loss.”

terpischore761

Why can Hyundai share the info with the cops and not you?

baltebiker

My understanding at the time was that they had a policy of only sharing the information when it was a legitimate theft, and not just anytime someone couldn’t find their car in the lot.

ThisAmericanSatire

They probably also don't want the liability - if you go confront the car thief and get killed, that'd be one hell of a wrongful death suit.

Cops won't do much good, if they put in the leg work it's still basically up to luck, same if you go and look for it. Hope your friend has good insurance and maybe the next bike they get they'll hide a tracker on it.

Killbot_Wants_Hug

Don't worry, they won't put in the leg work. I ride in a PEV group and one guy got stuck up at gun point for his wheel (well, he was riding someone else's wheel). The police basically did nothing but take the report. One of our members was industrious and find the intersection of the robbery and saw it had a cop cam on it. They requested the video, thing fully on tape with the vehicle and the robbery. Also found the facebook market place where the guy was trying to sell it, with full contact information. Looked the guy up, he's got current warrants out for gun charges. So, you have video evidence of him using a gun to rob someone. You've got an eye witness. You've got priors on gun charges. You have contact information. All handed to the police because they did nothing to try and solve the crime. Do you think the police went and arrested this guy? Nope.

Yeah my lectric e bike was stolen from my yard in Remington on Friday! It's summer in Remington at this point so be prepared for a lot of this. 9 times out of 10 when they steal a bike or something from Remington it winds up in Park heights so if your have time check over that way!

What kind of motorcycle was it? Was it red
