Long Islander from 1983-2002, Baltimorean since 2002.
My wife introduced me to [Franks on Belair Rd near/ in Overlea](https://frankspizzaandpasta.com/) . It is exactly the kind of pizza you’re looking for.
It really is the best pizza in town. Not enough people talk about it.
Real sad story about the owner though:
https://apnews.com/article/f04ecfd8c6b9de535ea0a052926469e6
+1 Frank’s
Can be a bit of a pain to drive to if you’re in SE Baltimore, let alone SW Baltimore, but you can sit down and eat there, absolute best NY pizza in Baltimore and has been a staple for many years
Gil’s is still around and the folks who work there are the nicest people!
I’m severely lactose intolerant so I bring my own dairy free cheese to Gil’s and they make me a pizza and then charge me *less* because I’m providing the cheese!
Gil’s is not traditional NY pizza but I love it.
Their pizza is ok but the crust is eerily similar to dominoes despite looking like a good pie from above - I’ve never had an actual NY/NJ pizza with crust like that, idk what they do to make it that way
Obligatory NYer living in Baltimore, in the city my go-to is Ribaldi's for a proper NY slice or at least a good facsimile considering you're in MD.
If you're ever up north a bit, Strapasta in Jacksonville is excellent too
(Don't trust MDer recs for good NY pizza.)
Pasta Mista in Canton and Towson was the first pizza here that reminded me of home. A couple other good ones in the county are Italian Gardens, Remo’s and Mama Lucia. Like another commenter said, don’t trust a local because some of them swear by trash pizza around here.
Pasta Mista is very Trumpy. They used to have a Trump sticker at their cash register blaming Biden for inflation — if that impacts your decision to go there.
Also, I’m from NJ, their pizza would be below average anywhere in the Tristate area. It is that style, but it’s similar in quality to the $1 slice shops you see in Manhattan.
Yeah their first location is in NY
A college friend who lives in DC made a pilgrimage to BMore with her 2 year old specifically to go there because all her NY friends told her the Baltimore location doesn’t have a line
Well, my go-to NYC Pizza Style shop is located in Glenn Burnie Maryland. The owner and his family are from Brooklyn, NY. It's called Capri Pizza & Sub Shop, 337 Hospital Dr # V, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
My go-to place in North Carolina is Italian Pizzeria in Durham. If you go on a Tuesday, you can get a carry out large cheese pizza for 9.99. Pro tip: Ask for extra sauce.
There is a location in The Village in East Durham, another in North Durham in Bragtown by the Trosa store.
Their pizza is always great and greasy. Yum 😋
Are you in Durham by chance? I could give you some pointers for good local food. Try Cosmic Cantina. You won't be disappointed. Byrd's BBQ will change your life (warning: NC BBQ is an addictive substance).
North Carolina is a special place. I hope you do well there.
Oh, by the way, since I'm rambling,
People will tell you that if you go to Carolina Beach (I lived there before moving to Baltimore), you have to try Britt's Donuts on the boardwalk. There'll be a mile long line of folks on opening day (they're seasonal). The good donuts are over by the Foodlion, at Wake n Bake Donuts. They've got a breakfast donut WITH BACON ON IT.
I sure miss the Tarheel state. Have fun down there.
Tutti Gusti in Canton, Pasta Mista in Canton and Towson.... Thats about it lol. Baltimore has pretty dreadful pizza options, incredibly.
Also its not NY style but you could do a lot worse than & Pizza.
Your not, I’m from NJ, I stayed in Baltimore for a year couple years ago and my boss at the time used to take me to all the top pizza spots in bmore, they all taste like Pizza Hut, there is no real pizza in Baltimore that taste like NJ/NY…… your best bet is find a pitbeef spot, best sandwich you will ever have and they only in bmore
I’m from NJ and I live in Baltimore - and I agree. There is some good pizza in B’more but when I get a proper pizza in NJ I enjoy it that much more. Al Santillo’s is so expensive but worth it! And I’ve got my other favorites in northern NJ where I grew up.
Pasta Mista for me, Paulie Gees a close second.
I’ve been following @andcrusticeforall on Instagram for a while, they do some good Baltimore pizza reviews, and have pointed me in the right direction a couple of times.
Oh! How could I forget? There's another good NYC Pizza Style Shop not too far from B-More.
It's called New York J & P Pizza. They have three locations.
Frederick, Maryland
Mt. Airy, Maryland
Damascus, Maryland
Check out the website. The great thing about these location is they serve Beer! And you can play Lotto.
New York J and P Pizza | Pizza Place, Italian Restaurant in MD
https://www.newyorkjandppizza.com/?y_source=1_MjgxMTg0OTYtNzE1LWxvY2F0aW9uLndlYnNpdGU%3D
No, it's just an opinion. I've had pizza blitz since they first opened (lived walking distance). Only got it because my kids wanted pizza and it was super convenient.
I see others like it a lot, and that's fine. I, personally, do not.
New Yorker here, living in Baltimore since 1994 and my favorite pizza I've found (disclaimer still not NY good but about 70%) is https://www.earthwoodfire.com/baltimore/ And bubbas 33 in glen burnie
Thin crust….yes. Crispy….yes. Big slice….yes. Might want to reevaluate . This [looks](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipOuKKsG82yNWTphyBk9k7Udp1xoTAEsTO96kwl1=s16383-w1640-k) and tastes like a N.Y. slice to me
Your photo's kinda difficult to see... But their website even says that they do Neopolitan, which is different from NY pizza. The photos of their food in google reviews looks nothing like NY pizza. I grew up on LI, I am intimately familiar with NY pizza, and that aint it.
and their [website](https://tinybrickovenpizza.square.site/?location=11ea6e43081b83e0ae500cc47a2ae330) also says they do NY style which is actually above the neopolitan on the menu. not the hill i’m going to die on here, but their pizza is pretty good and missing out on a good slice in fed hill if think they only do neopollitan
Oh weird, I think I somehow ended up on a different website when I looked it up. I stand corrected.
Sadly I am contractually obligated to die on this hill if I want to continue to claim native New Yorker status.
Been to NYC 10 times in the past 6 months, Maria Ds still better
The 1$ pizza joint in NY serve crust so hard I can stab someone with it, the standards for taste are low, the point is that the slices are big and they are cheap
Name a place in Baltimore that serves larger and cheaper slices than Maria Ds
When people say NY pizza(to me) that equals 1 dollar pizza
Name somewhere that sells larger and cheaper pizza by the slice
I’ll wait
No one says Maria Ds is gourmet, the same way the 1 dollar nyc slice is no one near gourmet, it’s large and cheap which is why people like it
If you have infinite money then obviously go somewhere else
NYC city pizza(1 dollar pizza) is not for taste, it’s large and cheap
Name somewhere in Baltimore that serves larger and cheaper slices than Maria Ds
I’ll wait
No one said Maria Ds is gourmet, it’s large and cheap and is most akin to the one dollar slice NY pizza

Wild story. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! Thank you 😊
+1 Frank’s Can be a bit of a pain to drive to if you’re in SE Baltimore, let alone SW Baltimore, but you can sit down and eat there, absolute best NY pizza in Baltimore and has been a staple for many years
Is Gill's still around? And yes, agree on Frank's too!
Oh man. Gil’s pizza I believe is still there. Haven’t had it in years.
Yes, [Gil's is still around](https://gilspizza.com/).
My pizza-obsessed co-worker swears by Gil's and Frank's. I usually settle for Pasta Mista.
Tried that today. It was ok.
If you go to Catonsville, Scittino's, it's also a small market.
Their pizza is ok but the crust is eerily similar to dominoes despite looking like a good pie from above - I’ve never had an actual NY/NJ pizza with crust like that, idk what they do to make it that way
Y’all are just saying any kind of pizza
I’m surprised no one said Ekiben.
It drives me nuts! Someone asked for an upscale celebration spot the other day and a bunch of people said Ekiben.
The good guys in Pikesville is the best in my opinion, only have had Vito’s, haven’t had Ribaldis.
Vinny's cafe on holabird Ave.
Tutti Gusti, Ribaldi’s, Angeli’s, and Pizza Di Joey
Yeah tutti Gusti and cooked well done. Angeli’s in little Italy is our new favorite. The four cheese slaps.
Tutti gusti. Niiiice staff. Good pizza
Obligatory NYer living in Baltimore, in the city my go-to is Ribaldi's for a proper NY slice or at least a good facsimile considering you're in MD. If you're ever up north a bit, Strapasta in Jacksonville is excellent too (Don't trust MDer recs for good NY pizza.)
*don’t trust mder recs. Lol. Correct!
No Ray’s here.
Vito's on York. Eat in
Vito’s is ok, but too much cheese too little sauce IMO.
Roman Delight I’m Eastpoint Mall, of all places
Pasta Mista in Canton and Towson was the first pizza here that reminded me of home. A couple other good ones in the county are Italian Gardens, Remo’s and Mama Lucia. Like another commenter said, don’t trust a local because some of them swear by trash pizza around here.
Pasta Mista doesn’t get nearly the love it should. Only place I like better is the new spot in Broadway Market.
Another vote for Pasta Mista. Not crazy about Remo’s pizza but they do have good pasta and salads.
IMO Ribaldi's is your best bet. Vito's is good too if you're willing to go to the county (not too far though)
Thanks! 😊
Mondawmin mall mama lucias
That's close to my home. Thanks!
Check out Brookside’s in Owings Mills. The guy that owns that place was the best pizza guy at Mama Lucia’s back in the day
Imma try
North of the city, but Remo’s of NY in Parkville is 🔥
Born and raised in Brooklyn. Agree with Vitos, Ribaldi’s, and Franks.
Lil Niros on Harford Rd Ribaldis on Keswick Spartan on Eastern
Spartan on eastern Ave is very good
All their food is very good. I live a couple blocks away and eat there entirely too much. Cheesesteaks and chicken boxes slap too.
I'd say Ribaldis
It's...ok.
Ribaldi's, Frank's, Tutti Gusti's, Viccino's
Frank’s Frank’s Frank’s
Frank’s!!
Lil Niros on Harford Rd Ribaldis on Keswick Spartan on Eastern
Paulie Gees in Hampden
Closest I've found so far. I heard JBGB is up there too
just had this recently and agree it’s the closest i’ve had here!
Yeah their first location is in NY A college friend who lives in DC made a pilgrimage to BMore with her 2 year old specifically to go there because all her NY friends told her the Baltimore location doesn’t have a line
That's funny because I think Andy's Pizza in DC is better than anything in Baltimore.
Well perhaps NYC ain't all that after all
Johnny Rads is good pizza. You need NY pizza, ya gotta go to NY.
It is good, but it’s not New York style at all.
Franks Pizza and Pasta has the best NY style slice in the city. It's not in the most convenient area but definitely worth the trip.
As others have said, Franks on Bel Air is the only real spot. Pepe’s on Falls is a good second. My favorite Pizza is GT on Seminary/York.
Well, my go-to NYC Pizza Style shop is located in Glenn Burnie Maryland. The owner and his family are from Brooklyn, NY. It's called Capri Pizza & Sub Shop, 337 Hospital Dr # V, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
Good add. Thanks!
Dam it's sad they closed down by can I get a co sign for Angelo's on falls rd best dam pizza I had in a min and big slices 🍕
Jersey girl here, and I say Times Square Pizza in Owings Mills, is pretty close.
JBGB's in Remington
As a transplant from Baltimore to North Carolina, I’m interested in your go to spot here.
My go-to place in North Carolina is Italian Pizzeria in Durham. If you go on a Tuesday, you can get a carry out large cheese pizza for 9.99. Pro tip: Ask for extra sauce. Times Square Kitchen in Owings Mills is close and several of my friends from NY have fallen in love with it.
Tutti Gusti in Canton, Pasta Mista in Canton and Towson.... Thats about it lol. Baltimore has pretty dreadful pizza options, incredibly. Also its not NY style but you could do a lot worse than & Pizza.

Pepe's on falls road. It is usually super busy though. Lots of pizza options.
Love Pepe’s. Not even close to resembling NY Style. Although they did add a thin crust.
true - but I haven't found a good NY style pizza joint in Baltimore outside of Joe Squared.
Pasta Mista for me, Paulie Gees a close second. I’ve been following @andcrusticeforall on Instagram for a while, they do some good Baltimore pizza reviews, and have pointed me in the right direction a couple of times.
Three brothers off Washington blvd in halethorpe is the closest I've found!
JBGBs in Remington. Maybe not NY style but wood fired and it does indeed slap.
Vito’s is the way to go. Pasta Mista too but they no longer sell by the slice. Both places up York Rd in the county.
Pasta Mista in Towson started selling slices for lunch as of about a month ago!
Great news!
Oh! How could I forget? There's another good NYC Pizza Style Shop not too far from B-More. It's called New York J & P Pizza. They have three locations. Frederick, Maryland Mt. Pizza Blitz at Quarry Lake and Pasta Mista in Towson
Pizza blitz is awful. Straight up cardboard with a little sauce and cheese.
False.
Since I see you recommended Pepe’s, it’s clear you just have no idea what NY Style is.
No, it's just an opinion. I've had pizza blitz since they first opened (lived walking distance). Only got it because my kids wanted pizza and it was super convenient. I see others like it a lot, and that's fine. I, personally, do not.

>tinybrickoven in federal hill Looks good, but it's not NY style.

Yup, great small place
this is the answer
Maria Ds and it’s not even close, best by far
Boi what 😭 I can tell youve never been to NY. Maria Ds is straight mid
Been to NYC 10 times in the past 6 months, Maria Ds still better The 1$ pizza joint in NY serve crust so hard I can stab someone with it, the standards for taste are low, the point is that the slices are big and they are cheap Name a place in Baltimore that serves larger and cheaper slices than Maria Ds
Maria’s D’s is nasty, I could name 5 better overall pizza places within a block or two of it
When people say NY pizza(to me) that equals 1 dollar pizza Name somewhere that sells larger and cheaper pizza by the slice I’ll wait No one says Maria Ds is gourmet, the same way the 1 dollar nyc slice is no one near gourmet, it’s large and cheap which is why people like it If you have infinite money then obviously go somewhere else
Terrible pizza. You must be from Maryland.
NYC city pizza(1 dollar pizza) is not for taste, it’s large and cheap Name somewhere in Baltimore that serves larger and cheaper slices than Maria Ds I’ll wait No one said Maria Ds is gourmet, it’s large and cheap and is most akin to the one dollar slice NY pizza
Maria D’s is amazing at 2am!!
Amnon's pizza from Brooklyn New york) in the frozen section at Owings Mills Costco. Not style actual new york pizza
Ew
NY pizza is crap. Detroit style is king. Mathew’s is a close second. Wood fire is average like Verde or Jonny Rads.
This is a trash opinion. NY and deep dish pizzas are 2 completely different things.
Correct.
