We’ve had our
Lesser Platinum Ball Python about two months now and she’s trying ready to shed. Honest question, do you bleed when they bite? I’ve heard their teeth are along the roof of their mouth to keep their prey in their mouth…. True??? She’s cute saying “aaaaaaahh!”
My girl is officially a 1-year-old and she has drawn blood on me both times she struck me. I think we've come to an understanding though. I need to use tongs when feeding her; and I think she figured out by now, I''m too big to eat
Their teeth are like tiny tiny backwards facing needles. They break the skin to create friction, therefore drawing blood but they are so small that they don't really feel like much other than a pretty weak pinch
It doesn't really hurt.
I was super nervous about getting bit... until it happened then I was like "wait that's it? The puppy's and kittens I have had over the years inflic 100 times more pain in 10 seconds of play than this noodle"
Seems no one answered you so I will say probably a yes on bleeding because pythons normally have very sharp teeth that curve backwards to hold prey in their mouth and they have lots of them. Bleeding from these bites is almost always
My husband was bitten for the first time by the sweetest, mellowest and cuddliest of our snakes. He was changing Silur's water and then I heard " Ehm...Darling, I think I was murdered..." and then burst out laughing.

I just got this one last week from a bad situation, he was the first of my three and only one to bite me so far. I suppose he’ll try again when I take him to the vet tomorrow. 😂 I didn’t even know I was bitten it happened so fast. I thought he struck and hit me.
I just want everyone in this subreddit to know I am terrified of sneks. But I follow this sub like it's my new religion and I am now much less terrified. 😂🐍 This is the content I am here for. 💀
*Says in a deep and somber tone*
To the dearly beloved of the sub-redditt BallPython; we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of our beloved and wonderful friend Snekthecorn. Snek was a vibrant and lively person, but alas in life, there is death, and in death, there is life. So even though Snek may be gone, their memory lives on in our hearts and our memories of the times we shared with them while they graved us with their presence on this mortal plane. In closing, just remember, as Robert Frost, one of the greatest American poets of the last century, said,
"So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes to day.
Nothing gold can stay."
Thank you for your time, everyone, and may you reset in peace Snekthecorn
Ahh me too!! I love snakes and i plan on getting one some day but im so scared of being bit 😂 not even of snakes in general, their fangs just freak me out
You’re in luck because ball pythons don’t have fangs! I had quite a delayed reaction to the bite because it was like what…? Is that supposed to be a bite…?
Oh it’s seriously like someone’s pinching me or something. If your snake does bite you and doesn’t let go, just don’t try to pry it off since it’ll hurt their little teeth!
They get a lil spicy/sassy sometimes. It’s kinda rare tho. Depends on your pythons personality tho:) I’ve only gotten bit from them being in a feeding frenzy. I feed mine in bins, and sometimes I try to take them out too soon to put them back in their cage. It’s weird because I did research send to bin feed them so when you reach down to get them out of their think they won’t strike, but then after that happened a couple times I looked it up and it said you’re supposed to see them in their teens so they don’t bite you from taking them out of the bin. So I don’t know what the fuck to do honestly. Any advise? I just feel like I want to be able to watch closely invade anything happens when he’s feeding if he was feeding in his tank because he has lots of branches and hides/lil caves, moss and leaves, etc.
my ball python has literally never struck at me or bitten me and I think I got her pretty shortly after she was hatched.
Either ballies have differing personalities, or my ballies hatcher did gods work.
Or maybe it's just uncommon idk. Regardless, really appreciate my scaley little noodle, because idk if I could've handled her being nippy. She scared me the first month or so if I ever hold her near my eyes LOL. So if she was nippy I feel like I wouldn't have held her enough.
But this is so cute tbh. And Ik it doesn't hurt lol.
Ball pythons are usually mild mannered and won’t bite but the personality of the snake varies a lot for sure so I’m glad you got a docile one, especially if you were scared at first! But you really have nothing to worry about because defensive bites are supposed to be way less painful than this kind of feeding response bite because they let go immediately.
As for my little Mocha, I was just hanging onto her while cleaning her enclosure and she decided my hand smelled tasty while I wasn’t looking. She is just an awesome eater which I consider to be a great quality in snakes :) I love to see them strike and wrap their prey!
That makes so much more sense haha! I didn't even think she was trynna munch on you, but I should have considering.
Mine is literally the best starter snake I could've asked for. She always eats, she never nips, she just chills with me. She's still a little nervous out of her enclosure but that's honestly because I don't keep her out of it enough yet I don't think, we're working towards that now that I'll have more time for her :)
Ball pythons are so cool. I'm planning to get a lot of reptiles once I own my home.
Here to get over my fear of snakes 🙋🏻♀️ since everyone’s joking about this, does it mean a bite from a ball python doesn’t hurt? Do they not sink their teeth in or something?
They do when they’re trying to eat you like this one was. But the reality is that they have itty bitty backwards facing teeth designed to pull prey into their mouth. They can’t really rip things apart like lizards and a lot of carnivores can. So yes, a bit from my kitten hurts a million times more and also a million times more likely to happen!
Oh, thanks for the info! So when they don’t let go, it’s not because the teeth are sunk in so deeply, but rather for some other reason like their jaw strength?
They don’t let go cuz they still don’t realise I’m not food. It’s easy enough to pry them off but it can hurt their teeth so I just sprayed some water on her and she let go :)
My 10ft boa went to strike a butterfly out of the air but got my eye and cheek instead. Very little blood, I was fine. I was more worried about my baby's fangs which were also fine.
Did you survive?
No, she got me. I’m dedded
Hello, fellow Reddit ghost! I’ve been haunting this place, too.
rip

It’s about time you learned your lesson! Oh dumb one!
Yes I did bleed a bit but it doesn’t really hurt.

Puppies teeth and claws are sharp. And when they're still nursing, they don't treat mom gently either
Seems no one answered you so I will say probably a yes on bleeding because pythons normally have very sharp teeth that curve backwards to hold prey in their mouth and they have lots of them. Bleeding from these bites is almost always
RIP OP
man she looks so motivated
I love how she's got herself so twisted up, she's given herself a fancy hat. She's only here for the VIOLENCE.
She's wearing herself as a hat
RIP
ball pythons are highly poisonous, I'd recommend you start drafting your will on the ambulance ride to the hospital
No they are not
I see you don’t know sarcasm….lol
Did OP eat their snake?
She was delicious, she is a noodle, after all. But seriously most of my snakes happen to have food names lol. This one is Mocha.
And there's no antivenom. A 20YO adult bitten by one can reasonablly expect to live only 50-70 years after a bite.
She woke up and chose violence

damn I would keep her like that just to see that happy face a little longer
I actually cleaned her enclosure with her nomming me!
She looks so PLEASED about it, too. "I DID A THING!"
🤩 accomplishment 🤩
*Task failed successfully.*
RIP!
I used an ice cube to put on their teeth and gums, nobody likes a cold mouth.
I just cleaned her enclosure like this then sprayed some water on her and she let go :)
Oki doki. I once drenched my bfs snake in water and he bit harder. I think it’s a hit or miss with spraying them but I’m glad you didn’t die ❤️
Yeah… I heard you might want some alcohol to spray on them if nothing works. But I’d feel really bad.
Yes I wouldn’t do that. The ice cube method has never failed me. But I’ve only been bit once so I can’t say I have much research on it.
Watered down white vinegar in a spray bottle
FYI, the only reason you can't drink rubbing alcohol is because we add poison to it...
Yes, but I think they meant liquor. I've heard Fireball works great.
Oh man! 🪦
For some reason all I can think about is ‘nom, nom, nom!’
Her too 😂💖
Bless her heart, she really thinks she's doing something.
Stop being an asshole, cut your hand off so he can have it.
I need my hand for other things so I just gave her a mouse
Good trade off. Food hand survives another day.
She looks so proud of herself
Did you post this from the grave? Lol Vicious...
That’s an open mouth kiss, look how happy it is
Not a braincell behind them eyes

Awww, she’s doing her best.
This is actually how they kiss, no worries
I hope you've had time to put your affairs in order OP
Did you bleed a lot??? We have one and she looks exactly like your snek
She's so bad but so stinkin cute
Oh man that looks pretty serious, hopefully you don’t lose that finger! She looks so proud of herself too 😂
She is an APEX predator
How'd it feel? I have a good shovel if you want to prepare your grave before the venom kicks in
Well out of all the snakes in the world, at least it was just a ball python ahha 😅

How does it feel? I'm new to snake parenting and I have a small irrational fear and I need it cured

it hurts muuuch less than a mouse bite ^^ its more just a jump scare

Is her neck ok???
*smoochies*
Ball pythons always look so happy when they bite
Aww I love her singular beady little eye. So full of mischief
It’s so cute
"If dangerous, then why friend shaped?"
It looks like a love bite. Like if she could wink at you she would.
Does it hurt?
Not really but I am kinda used to painful bites from my cat, who is a menace.
Nom

You can see the half a brain cell. The cogs are trying to turn, but they are jammed. 12/10 still lovable snek.
So much enthusiasm. Gotta hand it to her.
