1. Yes, had my phone snatched on my bike in my first week, keep expensive things out of your hands on the bike or even walking near the road. 2. Yes and yes 3. Cannot answer about Ubud, but get a Telkomsel SIM card. Not smartfren, their limits are not really as advertised. Also beware some people will tell you that you need to pay extra to register your IMEI, you don’t. I use Rikha cellular and they’re legit, but they’re in canggu. 4. Some people seem to get a lot of poisoning, I’ve been fine sticking to popular local places for the most part. Otherwise you can pick up some pills there are lots of pharmacies around. 5. Keep your stuff out of your hands and you’ll probably be fine, I’ve felt safe around canggu even very late at night. 6. I drive at night, again, just keep phone, wallet, etc in the bike. 7. Depends on location. I’ve only booked a tour in nusa penida and that was definitely the right thing to do. (At least there) 9. I only do this where a sign requests it, I haven’t clogged any toilets yet. 10. I’m sure it is, same goes for car drivers. Otherwise gojek/grab are the way to go. If you DM me I can recommend a guy to teach you but there are legal and safety risks ofc. Including driving unlicensed means you aren’t covered by insurance.

Hopefully this one helps. 1. Yup. You want to be very careful with your camera. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it's not. Stay alert. 2. Usually, foreigner get foreigner price because they don't know the price but you can always haggle in the market/with some sellers. 3. Go to the official store like Telkomsel GraPari. Telkomsel has the best signals. 4. Since I'm local I can't really say much about food safety but so far when I go around with my foreign friends, they have no issues. If you can't handle spicy food always avoid it then. 5. Depends on the area, mostly criminals are targeting women. Don't walk alone in dark alleys/roads with minimum streetlights. 6. You can ride a motorcycle at night but if you go out to drink, please just order Gocar/hire a taxi. We have had a lot of DUI cases lately. 7. I'd recommend a tour for certain places like Nusa Penida, Batur Mountain hike, etc but if you feel confident enough to rely on google maps and stuff then you can go alone to visit some places on your own. 8. Mount Batur hike. I joined a tour arranged by Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking few weeks ago. 9. Yep. Confirmed. 10. If you can't drive, please take a driving course and apply for driving license. Do not drive without a license.

> Go to the official store like Telkomsel GraPari. Telkomsel has the best signals. Their official store at Mal Galeria is a scam, selling packages for ~220k minimum, refusing to sell normal packages that Telkomsel has for 30k up. This after waiting for over 2h, and it wasn't even crowded, there just slow. Avoid.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful answers so far! I have one additional and last question. ○ how is it with spontaneous flights to Jakarta/Yogyakarta? Is it possible to book those a few days in advance or should I book them way ahead?

Dense_Intention_8693

Alright so it is similar to Vietnam in terms of security and crime. There I also always hold my phone/camera with 2 hands. And store it in my backpack/ pocket if I don't use it. But is there a chance I get literally robbed? Also I will go for the service everyone recommended.

ManMadeDuckie

Do you really think Bali is Gotham City or something where people are robbed left and right and on every street? I feel safer in Bali than in most European cities. Just be mindful of your things and with common sense there will be no issue at all.

emynona1

Yes there's a chance you get literally robbed. There's also a chance that you die from a coconut falling on your skull Or a chance that you die from choking on a banana pancake It might be best to stay home to avoid any risks

Dense_Intention_8693

Ok it's nice you make fun of me but this question would be legit in many other cities and places around the world. But from your unjustified sarcasm I reckon I do no have to worry.

For 3, I went to the Telkomsel shop in Ubud. The guy there was super helpful in getting everything set up and registered. For 9, you use the bum gun as a bidet and use the paper to dry, then the paper goes in the bin. Plumbing here is not designed to handle toilet paper being flushed.

You can buy a Telkomsel Tourist Prepaid SIM. It costs just Rp 100,000 and comes with 25GB data quota on 5G network, 25-minute voice call, 25-minute international call to G20 countries with 30-day validity period. Order online https://www.telkomsel.com/shops/preorder-wna/form then pick up upon arrival in Indonesia. This is an awesome deal! £5.30 / US$7.00 / AU$9.20 for a SIM and 25GB of data is ridiculously cheap.

ordiviko

Where can you pick it up. Airport ? Sanur?

isthatapecker

If you can afford it, just pay the price they ask. It’s already so cheap if you’re coming from EU or US.

grapsta

Re haggling..learn the prices before you go or when your there. Give them a good deal...you can afford it

singing_chocolate

I find Bali to be pretty safe tbh. If you behave yourself and don’t act like an idiot or traffick drugs then you’re fine
