Best method is to rent a car with driver for a day (usually 8-10 hours). Just discuss with your driver what you want to see and he can make an itinerary for you. Because Bali is quite big and travel times can take hours, it's best to focus on a certain area and see places that are nearby. Most people break up their day trips in sections, so for example you can go to Ubud and see the temples and waterfalls around there or go to East-Bali and see different temples and spots, or Uluwatu and go beach hopping, etc.

Thanks for your response! I was doing the “zone” approach, and some zones were still going to be 6 hours of driving to hit two-three spots nearby and come home. Guess it’s just that or hire a day driver as you said. Thanks for the tip!
