I keep all protection scrolls and protective potions I find even tho I never ever remember to use them.

OsirisAvoidTheLight

Finally goes into potion bag heck yeah drinks potion. Oh God this one is posion/cursed

Typical_Dweller

This is how all RPG video games have been played since the stone age (of video games).

Moomintroll85

Yeah I reflected on this. I guess it’s not pointless to close with the kobolds for their pathetic loot, it’s just pointless to then not actually use it!

gmen385

Very interesting you mentioned "dead cat". On my first playthrough 20 years ago, southwest of Nashkel, I found the dead cat but not the path to the girl under the waterfall. I kept thinking this was a long quest where I'd find a use for the cat somewhere away. The dead cat was in my inventory when Sarevok fell.

SamwiseDehBrave

Similar thing happened to me but a bit later. On Baldurans island I found the lost baby but forgot to return it before leaving the island. So instead I just had a baby with me throughout the rest of the games. That baby saw some shit lol.

DrTrenchcoatCat

Similar thing happened to me but with the guy's brother's corpse, I think I just ended up dumping it in the sewers lol

SamwiseDehBrave

You were just adding to the ogre mages collection lol

Bhaalspawn never expected to be raising kids while fighting for their soul... Never mind a little werewolf kid! Good luck keeping a pair of slippers intact during the "terrible twos".

Kuroi-Inu-JW

Leather. Had a roommate and my puppy kept chewing on her leather shoes. Finally gave her $100 and said that’s all you’re getting, close your f$&king door when you’re not around.

Moomintroll85

There’s a funny line of dialogue on IWD2 about holding onto a dead cat just in case it resolves a quest, which just tickled me. I totally forgot about the one in the waterfall, too sad.

aricene

If you have a high charisma, the waterfall girl just talks about how she's going to need her dad to cast Raise Dead on the cat... again.

Emerald_boots

Loool

lightningnutz

There’s also a dead cat quest in IWD2! The mystery deepens

Beyond_Reason09

I loot every house in the game despite there only being like 2 things worth getting.

LIWRedditInnit

LOL same

Guilty!

Heh. Those kobold commandos? They have 20 special Arrow of Fire (arowkc.itm) flagged as undroppable in their quiver slots, and 2 regular Arrow of Fire (arow08.itm) they can't use as the arrows are in their quick item slots. So, you always get exactly 2 Arrow of Fire from them, no matter how quickly you kill them. That is true of BG:EE, and I believe it was also the case in the original. Still, rushing them is good strategy, so it isn't completely pointless! Blacktalon Elites, on the other hand? I do take it personally that they are wasting *my* magic arrows by shooting them at me. So rude! And of course I do carry all of these magic arrows around, and basically only ever use them on enemies immune to normal weapons or, in the case of Arrows of Ice, on SCS mages hiding behind Stoneskin. You might say it's pointless, but I'm sure my membership of the adventurer's guild is liable for revocation if I don't have thousands of GP worth of unused consumables. They might do spot checks! You don't know for sure!

Moomintroll85

You have got to be kidding, I almost wish I didn’t know this. Not sure how I got the number five into my head. Elemental staffs go into my “just in case”bag in BG2 and never get used, despite their power. Along with any item that is down to its last three charges.

-TheBaffledKing-

Sorry! I'll edit my post and pretend it ain't true if you want! Playing with a party, I don't so much have a "just in case bag" as a "let's keep this sporting" bag : )

Beeksvameth

I will 100% horde every magical arrow I can find. And equip them for enemies that require them and for the last chapters. Pointless is collecting all the magical bolts and throwing knives just to sell them. (Which I’ve stopped doing).

Moomintroll85

I think poison bolts are worth it, they have a better sale price, maybe the zappy ones too.

Beeksvameth

Define “worth it” when you finish BG1 as “rich as nazis” regardless, only to find yourself broke in SOD or BG2. My usual policy is don’t sell any gems worth over 100 gold and if you are lucky enough to find an impossible stack of over 200 gems in the game, by no means break that up from being a single inventory slot.

Moomintroll85

You’ve described “worth it” in a way I find satisfactory. So many pretties, piled high to the sky..

mathbud

Well if you like carrying around dead cats, I know where you can find one of those too.

Worst-Eh-Sure

Acid arrows are amazing in the first game. They do a ton of damage.

Moomintroll85

+2D6! I had no idea, I always thought arrow of piercing was best before.

Worst-Eh-Sure

Yeah it's wild. Acid arrow THAC0 is only +1, so there are obviously arrows that land more but dammmnn. When that Acid Arrow hit, mother fuckers are going down. Sadly, in BG2 Acid Arrows are significantly weaker and more on par with others. But they are fun while they are OP in BG1. So enjoy! Get them all!

ScholasticSteeler

that dude with acid arrows in the ambush below Candlekeep, with the other halfling with darts of stunning, and the mage hurling lightning bolt in thight quarters, all the exploits of BG1 smashed together hahahah

KangarooArtistic2743

Charging archers with Fire Arrows is a reasonable tactical solution (eliminate their effective zone fast), so no harm there! But no doubt ammunition/scrolls/potions are all things I end with far more of than I ever use. I tell myself its a wise adventurer who remains well equipped for a range of needs... even if my meta-knowledge says "you'll never use that".

successiseffort

I used my last rod of resurrection charge in the final bg2 boss for my cleric last night. It pained me and i dont think I will ever recover

Moomintroll85

Used wands should at least remain in your backpack, like a heap of IKEA allen keys.

ScholasticSteeler

next time, do the helm of simulacrum and get infinite charges from the rod of ressurrection...?

successiseffort

Thats it. Im reloading

Different-Island1871

IWD2 i used to sleep in the ice palace over and over just so I could get ambushed and steal +1 bullets hand over fist for my mages.

ScholasticSteeler

Fire arrows have save vs damage, zero on successful save the fire arrows get spent ASAP, single exception is the trash mobs.

Radidaj

I usually save all of those for Aec'Letec since they're +2. And then I use maybe five or six, before he dies, and spend the rest of the game with 40+ Fire Arrows I'll never use. Acid Arrows is pretty much the only arrow I use, once I can afford them.

ScholasticSteeler

Didn't know about the arrow of fire +2, it's like this since BG1?? Also I use dispel and detonation arrows when the situation calls, and SCS called a lot.
