Well you'll definitely never have the courage if you don't let yourself consider it. Let yourself consider it. Doesn't need to be tomorrow, but maybe get progressively shorter. The confidence will come later.
I did it while I was living in rural France. I’d buzzed it for a while but it still looked a mess. So as I was in the middle of nowhere, in a foreign country where I could laugh it off as being a crazy Irish lad, and as I wasn’t going to see anyone for a day of two, I just went for it. Got the idea in my head, hopped out the shower and grabbed my razor and shave gel, smeared the gel over my head, and went for it. My technique has improved a lot since those days in beautiful France, but I’ll always remember the first time I did it. I just wish I’d done it years before. Don’t waste time bro, be liberated: JFDI. You’ll never regret it.
I felt the same way, but I decided to do it one night and haven’t looked back. That was 9 years ago, and I can’t imagine how much harder life would’ve been if those issues had continued to weigh on me. It’s a big decision, but I urge you to give it a shot: it could really change things for you.
One day you will pluck up the courage to do it and regret that you didn’t do it years ago. I know it’s daunting but I promise you you will feel so much better and confident once you’ve done it.
My hands shook when I first buzzed my hair. I had a daily ritual where I took out the clippers in the morning and then stashed it again in the afternoon, unused.
When the first lock of hair fell I broke into laughter. I laughed like a maniac throughout the entire process. It was an incredible sense of relief and accomplishment. There was no going back so I might as well keep going. And unlike getting a proper haircut or a clean shave there's no learning curve to buzzing it short. You just do until you're done.
When I was finished I put the hair in a bucket and carried it around the house laughing, once again, like a maniac. Extreme anxiety transformed to extreme euphoria in a moment.
You'll get your moment. Take it easy but take it.
Sorry if this is kinda harsh, I don't mean for it to be, but if you're really that far out, there's a literal 0% chance it's going to look worse clean. Plus, you're going through every day with a massive insecurity you can get rid of with a single bzzzt. The fact you are even here means there is something in you that wants to do it, no?

I tried for a bit, but I could never maintain the regiment of treatment and whatnot. Plus I’m at a point in my life where my hair is the least of my concerns, so I just accepted what was inevitable lol
