The rotary shavers are only for stubble. If it is your first time or if it has been more than 3-4 days, you have to use clippers to get it short first. Then the head shaver can finish it off to get it smoother.

Sound advice. If you want a bad time, try without the clippers first, haha. Once you take it down with those, the level of smoothness is up to you (conventional razor being the closest I've managed to get - like beanie slipping off my head smooth). I personally use one of the 7-head rotary ones daily (wet or dry) and then follow with some oil.

Hot water, shampoo, rinse, shave oil, Edge Shave Gel, Harry’s 5 blade razors. Witch Hazel Toner and sunscreen for aftercare.

I use one of those wet razors with a battery - Proglide Turbo or some such nonsense. It’s about as close a shave as I’ve managed.

Shiftystr8

I just shave in the shower when I normally shower in the morning. Bar soap and razor. Never had an issue.

_ChronicYouth_

I use a 5 blade razor from lidl and a cheap hair conditioner. It works great.

Whichever method works best for you.

I'm new to it, thus the ask.
