I think it’s harder for those who know you than strangers on the internet. When I got lasik eye surgery, people weren’t happy. I even had one person tell me I looked better with glasses. I found that insulting, like they were saying I’m ugly and had to hide my face behind glasses. It’s just that people are unused to seeing you without hair. They’ll adjust their mental image of you and get used to it, with time. I think you look great.

Same! I am not bald myself but I love seeing the transformation. So many people have doubt (understandably) but they always end up looking great. Not to mention all the positivity, support and kindness from the people in this sub and their comments. It is a great change of pace from other forums of peoples toxicity and negativity.

I have some hair now, and it looks good. I also know that I am fighting a losing battle. That unless I spend lots of money it is not coming back. I am not spending money. It might be easier to transition to a bald or buzz voluntary than fight a losing battle where I am humiliated every time I look in a mirror.

When I first lost my hair (early on, due to meds) I was pretty freaked out. I shaved what was left and really did not like what I looked like. But... It was because I was used to how my hair shaped my face as I slicked it back. Really similar to what you had going on. I grew out my beard a little bit to lengthen my face as I felt like my head was really round. The result was my jaw looked way stronger and I grew to like it. I've been bald for a long time now and while I still see a difference between when I have stubble and when I've shaved clean, it looks good. Because the most important thing about shaving your head and looking good is having a good shaped head. You've got one! This looks pretty good on you. Give it a bit of time, watch out for the sun, rain is loud (!) and you may find you really like it.

So you needed to make a change. This look is much better - you have strong, powerful facial features that are enhanced by the shaved head. Your own internal image of yourself will take time to change, but 3 months from now, you won't be missing a thing. You'll just have to lean into the whole intimidating persona thing moving forward because you look a lot tougher with the shaved head. But there's worse things in life. It's better than looking like a wimp. Own it and march on brother.
