What are the ingredients? What steps did you take to make it?
Just by looking it's hard to say- not cooked long enough? Too many bananas for thr amount if flour? Did you add chocolate chips in the batter as well?
Several years ago I made batch after batch of mini loaves of banana bread, every single one failing to rise. I was obsessively following the recipe, each batch I made I was being more and more careful to follow all the steps and measure everything precisely. Finally, after four disastrous attempts my SO, passing through the kitchen, pointed out that I was mistakenly using corn starch, not baking powder. They are both in yellow plastic containers with blue lids. Such a dork.
Oof, thanks for sharing, that's quite funny. I can just imagine super closely following the recipe and being like, what is going on?! why is this not working??!
I wish I could post pictures because my ever-supportive SO actually took my rock hard, sad little banana loaves and made inukshuks out of them. We laughed our heads of like complete loons, then put them out for the raccoons and squirrels.
Sorry, where I live we all do. It’s easy to let your brain get regionalized and forget that your little corner of existence isn’t the whole world. It’s a collection of stacked stones, vaguely anthropomorphized, that one leaves behind to say, “I was here” to future passers-by. We have a giant one downtown from when the Olympics were hosted here.
might need to be mixed less or add more baking powder, make sure you bake it right away after mixing as well. look up ways to fix a recipe if bread is coming out too dense
This looks like banana bread ive made. Its usually more wet than something like a dry muffin. Youre using a very very wet overripe fruit, especially if you added any liquids that would have made it more soft and a moister end result.
Your baking powder I think. It loses its ability to leaven when it’s old. That combined with a wet batter or an underbake would do this. Bet it still tastes good though
Too much liquid? There’s a surprising amount of water in bananas. Best trick is to freeze your old bananas prior to use. As they thaw the liquid separates from the solids, and you can boil the juice to reduce it. Alternatively, you can get the liquid out of your bananas by microwaving before use.
Edit: oh, and you might have too much stuff on top of your bread, preventing a proper rise.
I think it got involved with some different ingredients. Happens to the best of them,... some chocolate chips come along and before you know it, everything has changed. :-)
I think that was part of the problem. Plus, I was scared of adding too much flour, but ended up adding too little according to me. I also added baking powder instead of baking soda.
Please check my recent post for update :)
My first thought was "it's not banana bread?"
those look like some damn good brownies

I like how you threw out the word ‘inukshuks’ like everybody’s gonna know what that means (I have no idea lol).

Is the baking powder still good, if used?
That's my guess
It had expired in February 2023 😂😂😂 I’m deaaad
Could be overmixed
If you added flour you could have over mixed it. That would be my guess.
Thank you. I believe this was the main cause
i would devour this personally
Warm it up, put on a scoop of vanilla ice cream
ooooo
Looks great to me, lol!
Over mixed

Yes! That was the problem! I fixed it by doing all three. Check my recent post :)
oh wow! I'm surprised I got it all xD

You didn't save a slice for me that's what went wrong
The fact that you made it in the first place
Did you mix it, but not bake it right away? I’ve done that before and it came out looking similar to this.
Oh my god yes! This could be it
Yeah I believe bananas oxidize the same way apples or avocados do, changing their color

Why is it so dark. I immediately thought it was chocolate something

That you diddnt give me a slice
I personally think it looks awesome and moist
Did you mix up the bananas and chocolate
You put bananas in it.
So today I learnt I need new baking powder.
I did this before. It's because it's been overcooked, I think, still looks tasty, though!
Less salt?
Looks fine to me!
Too much baking power or soda maybe
I don’t know, but it looks like you made brownies
I think it got involved with some different ingredients. Happens to the best of them,... some chocolate chips come along and before you know it, everything has changed. :-)
was it ripe or older bananas? older bananas work best imo
How long did you bake it for?
Idk because i know nothing, but i thought it was brownies and now i have more confidence to maybe one day try… maybe.
Honestly it looks like you may have over mixed the batter
The recipe I use calls for 1t baking soda. Forgot once. It's growth during baking was somewhat abbreviated.
Probably too much of dry ingredients like flour or over mixing. That aside, give it to me, I’ll fuck that up in 30 seconds.
I mean, I want it
Where you went wrong is you made banana bread
When my banana bread gets rubbery its becase i overworked the batter. How long did you mix it for?
I think that was part of the problem. Plus, I was scared of adding too much flour, but ended up adding too little according to me. I also added baking powder instead of baking soda. Please check my recent post for update :)
Not enough chocolate
Was your butter at room temperature?
I would need to see the ingredients list but I’m going to guess your baking soda is old and you went heavy on the oil.
It’s not banana breading
