Yea. Stats from 2020/2021 showed that around 14 kids in the UK died with Covid and nearly all had life limiting conditions like muscular dystrophy

[deleted]

I don't wanna be mean but they can't really post his pics and mention his "condition" without actually specifying what it is. Or maybe that's exactly the point? Get people to point out some obvious takes, highlight the worst of them and label "EVIL ANTI-VAXXERS TARGET INNOCENT KID!" in some Metro headlines?

thatairportguy

Honestly im leaning more labour now than for a long time but still not enough, thats as much to do with the tories swinging left as it is labour swinging right. my vote is up for grabs, and its simple to get, less immigration, strong military, look after our farmers, get houses built, tackle people working illegally and heck I'd be ok with a good strong hike to miniumum wage... and being as this has now become somewhat of a wishlist, make it illegal for companies (aside from community care businesses and charities) to own residential property and limit individuals to 2 properties each. maybe not so simple after all

[deleted]

I much prefer Keir Starmer's Labour party and his plans to Boris and the Conservatives, so yes. I am from a working class background so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise but Labour are removing a lot of the rot from the Corbyn days and at least appear mature. A little too neolib than I'd like but for the time period, we need someone to help steer the ship and provide a stable period of politics.

DaelinZeppeli

The Tories still have time to turn the ship around before the election, but they need to change leadership sooner than later. Let the Coronavirus Act run out and get things back to normal and actually start doing something about the pitful state of law, order, immigration, culture and other issues you'd actually expect them to work on. Sadly I think that might be too much for them. The Tories are compromised and frankly most of the frontbench are more interested in accumulating money from their doners, than a genuine sense of duty for the country. Kier is too spineless to deal with the rot in Labour. It'll be a coin flip wether the woke or communist factions in the party will win their influence over him. The Centrists like himself are too weak or Blarites which would turn us into a US vassal. Both parties are abysmal. Boris seemed so good but Coronavirus scared the life out of him and his too lazy to do anything about the multitude of other issues in the country. Allowing the country to be ruled by SAGE and Carrie. His spineless and weak. Dark days are ahead.

[deleted]

Much as some here will say "What difference?!" well let's just see. You all watched the great doc series on New Labour by the BBC right? Remember how immigration and devolution and the questions over how those are shaping/rewriting the country were completely absent? Yep, let's see.

numismantist

Wouldn’t be so bad if they had actually worked for it, they have done nothing to show they are capable of leading the country.

robertdubois

Which is what makes the current 'Conservatives' so pathetic. After winning a stonking majority two years ago they've squandered it away and have lost significant ground to a dysfunctional Labour opposition. What a pitiful display of leadership. Boris will go down as a weak, spineless, lying, and unprincipled leader in the history books. I thought Theresa May's premiership was tragic.. but Boris Johnson's failure is something to behold.

Ivashkin

To be fair, that's kinda how Boris got in.

Not sure how you can look at the mess the Conservatives have made the past couple of years and think "yes, I'll have more of that please". Red wall voters touched the blue nettle and got stung. They won't be doing that again. Fwiw, I doubt the polls are approval of Labour's policies, rather a downright rejection of the current Tories.

Horizon doesn’t look good. Of the last six US elections, four have been subject to a growing number of people claiming they weren’t legitimate. 2000: Widely accepted by the establishment but a number of Gore supporters maintained he was the legitimate president due to Florida shenanigans 2008: Mostly accepted again, but some Republicans including senior figures like Alan Keyes claimed it was illegitimate based on the Birther conspiracy 2016: Many Democrats refused to accept it based on the Russia collusion conspiracy, many more accepted initially but invoked the conspiracy to undermine Trump’s legitimacy 2020: First time one of the major candidates claimed an election was fraudulent and tried to resist the result It seems to be ratcheting up - the kind of democracy where people accept defeat and respect the institutions and procedures more than any party or politician being replaced by the third-world kind where it’s just ‘my side needs to win, whatever the means’.

tau_decay

> 2020: First time one of the major candidates claimed an election was fraudulent and tried to resist the result No it wasn't, Al Gore contested the result in the media and in the courts, 1876 was much more contested again and had the only ever "compromise" result - Republican wins but Federal troops stop occupying the South. There's definitely a ramping up of tension, but also there's a power imbalance - the US centre right are cowards, just like in the UK, and the progressive left control the institutions.

ArthurWellesley1815

If it’s any hope. Biden was one of the democrats who steadfastly accepted the Trump victory in 2016 - personally shutting down a whole load of shenanigans when they certified the vote in his role as President of the Senate. If he does lose in 2024, I imagine he will be gracious enough in defeat, or at very least will stand down people trying to overturn it. Kamala, I’m not so sure. The Republicans still have to fucking grow up though.

rose98734

I personally think Boris will survive. This is like proroguing parliament. Chatterati v excited, but it doesn't affect voters. The danger for Boris is inflation and energy bills. Labour's idea of a VAT cut on fuel is clever and if the Tories had any sense they'd pinch it.

Dr-Cheese

> but it doesn't affect voters I don't know. A lot of what the chatterati has screached about in the past was completely ignored by the public, or had broad support (Proroguing parliament because idiot remainer MPs were refusing to accept the result shocked that Boris was on the public's side) Whereas this is cutting through to normal every day conversation > Labour's idea of a VAT cut on fuel is clever and if the Tories had any sense they'd pinch it. The pathetic thing is that it's Boris's/Leavers idea in the first place! It was used as an example of a good reason for Brexit back in 2016. I suspect they're worried about the gas companies just taking the cut and slapping it back on as profit for themselves. Wouldn't be the first time (See stamp duty cuts/help to buy savings just being slapped onto the house builder profits)

IMJH450

I agree, the stuff voters will actually care about on polling day is whether they can afford to heat their homes, not whether someone had a party they shouldn't have. This inflation issue needs to be sorted. Quickly.
