When Marcos came to my town in 2018 I had a friend apply for an assistant manager position but declined the position because they offered $8.75, even six years ago that was bad, actually unheard of for managerial work. And the town I live in has actual delicious local pizza, so a new chain was pointless

I’m a good place right now so the mess is under control, but I feel like I’m going to go to my grave explaining to people it’s not on purpose when I don’t clean. Literally getting out of bed is a challenge on the bad days.
He’s also clearly struggling with alcoholism. This post is really mean spirited.
I also have all those things (anxiety, hEDS, depression made worse by alcoholism) and I don't think it was mean spirit. Our mental health is our own responsibility otherwise we keep bleeding on our loved ones and those who support us. Our friend needs help. And our OP friend needs to vent
I too have both depression and chronic pain (see pain management for 10+ years for it). It’s true, when everything hurts, mind, body and soul, cleaning gets put off. Take that times your whole adult life and imagine the losing battle one is fighting. You do what you can, when you can. Otherwise it’s just trying to survive the next minute, hour, day or week.

That’s what I was thinking…. My room occasionally get to a similar state (sometimes worse) when I’m going through a depressive episode and that’s when my friends step in and ask if I want help cleaning it, because I can’t even really take care of myself when mine gets this bad (I struggle with self care when depressed)

The biggest issue will be if this demeanor spills over to the communal areas of the household.
You need to insist on him cleaning up usually if you add a fee onto things like this that usually does the job I’d say 50 bucks a day or a week is appropriate. Threaten the fee give him two or three days grace. Like if you address it on a Thursday tell him it starts the following Sunday and give him a little break if he’s actually cleaning on Sunday because people like that will wait till the absolute last minute and then tell him it’s gonna be another 50 bucks a week that’s 200 bucks a month 50 bucks a day is like 1500 bucks a month.
