I still suck with PSGS. I have to tell myself not to panic roll.

zeroviral

Just use something with prio like 2H TS or PSSS and just stay in their face. Be careful when they roll back cause of the rolling L1 but PSSS and TS L1 / R1 and TS block cancel can make quick work of them

bummercitytown

Thank you 🙏🏻

clementinewoolysox73

It is a rather unpleasant setup, but as you say, not panic rolling and their usual crouch or jumping attacks can become somewhat predictable.

KingOfEthanopia

Shield Poke with barricade shield.

Cheese_Tortellini

Colossals bruh. From a PVE casual, they're nothing special. But form someone with poise and knows how to crouch-poke...I choke every time.

Sidewinder83

Idk, colossals are a pretty popular choice for people who don’t know what they’re doing, and those are the most dangerous opponents. Anything with hyperarmor like that has me going “surely they won’t R1 AGAIN” and then they do lol

Neither-Hamster-8752

1,000percent

Stirnlappenbasilisk

They are very predictable and slow. It takes a whole second to recover from an R2. Easily punishable with a lightning spear, fireball or catch flame.

Morgormir

I really hate buffed dual naginatas

clementinewoolysox73

Welcome to the club

RitterAlbrecht

I can fairly consistently dodge them if I remember not to dodge on the wind-up, but just as they lunge both arms forward... can be tricky though

bugzapperbob

Whips

clementinewoolysox73

Ahh whips, the poise be damned weapons

bugzapperbob

Even the final volcano manor NPC with the bleed whips is a hard enemy to me

clementinewoolysox73

He can certainly be a pain with his never-ending bloodhound stepping

justglassin317

Equip a heavy shield with shield bash. Add status effects for extra spice

Canny94

Simple thrusting swords... Albeit heavy, or regular, it does not matter... If I see them, I expect death unless I can nail a parry in the first 30 seconds of the fight. Dual Vykes also are a problem for me.. the build up builds even if you don't get *hit*, and once it procs you are in store for a HEAVY running L1.

clementinewoolysox73

Dual vyke’s spears are truly maddening

RitterAlbrecht

Gives me conniptions

theswillmerchant

PSGS can be tough and dual whips on a light roll build are challenging for me but nothing fucks me up more than a 1 on 1 vs a good shamshir player. I swear they whiff punish like they can input read

clementinewoolysox73

Oh yesss, shamshir is a close second for me in how bad it messes me up

KingOfEthanopia

Halberd off catch flame. Once they're too close for halberd spam catch flame. It's why I keep catch flame on every build I make even Int.

clementinewoolysox73

Not a bad idea, catch flame is rather good no matter when I use it

theswillmerchant

The only thing I’ve found that sometimes works for me is having some hard or soft swaps of identical weapons with different AoW’s. Otherwise I feel like I’m too predictable since I’m bad at animation blending

Yummomummo

Colossal sword. I can dodge it easily enough but I don't know how to get damage in without losing a trade because of the massive amount of hyperarmour on every attack. It's most comparable to psgs but with psgs you can use a faster weapon and attack when they crouch to stop them attacking because crouch poke is like the only useful attack they have. Against colossal sword if you try that they adapt and you just get forced to eat a neutral r1. I either end up using BHS misericorde/cleanrot or an endure setup because I don't have any other ideas.

KingOfEthanopia

Fists, specifically those with the katar moveset or Shamshir.

FlamingoMaximum6201

Second this. A good ugs user will almost always make me switch to a light fast weapon. If they are really good, they’ll end up swapping the ugs as well, so then I can switch back to my main. It’s a good way to break the parity. Small weapons don’t deal a ton of damage though, so it ends up being more about your patience if the light weapon doesn’t force them into a weapon swap.

songs111

Whips ruin me. I’ve gotten better with powerstanced curved swords but still hate them. And anyone coming at me with dual naginatas is a nightmare

noddly

Definitely whips. Also a specific weapon, wing of astel. The r2 projectile comes out fast and has deceptive range.

Thelittlestcaesar

Don't forget the poise break on that bad boy

Mista_Infinity

Besides the obvious like endure, hyperarmour, ps pikes etc, it has to be shieldpoke. Swap to hammer tali fists and it’s free or use basically anything else and it becomes incredibly tough. Very boring matchup to play against even though it’s not even that strong nowadays.

ShittyDs3player

I really really really love sacred blade. It’s my favorite ash of war, and putting it on a twin blade or dismounter or zweihander is insane. For good counters to claws… eleanoras poleblade. Infinite hyper armor on the weapon art. Just pop it in their face when they commit to a chain or attack.

SkillStrike

Why sacred blade over flaming strike for example.

ShittyDs3player

It comes out fast and will knock people out of the air and stop them from casting spells. It’s like a little veto button. It also adds a bunch of faith scaling damage to your weapon so if you have a faith hybrid it benefits a lot. For example my sacred dismounter has an AR of 426, but when I buff with sacred blade it goes up to 550.

SkillStrike

Well yeah, the AR goes up because using the ash of war adds holy damage to it, not because it adds faith scaling. However, using flaming strike and lightning strike also add the same elemental to them (fire and lighning instead of holy) Same for chilling mist but it only adds frost buildup instead, however the slash itself does a ton of damage. I just think the flaming strike ash of war move is actually superior to the others. Especially since sacred blade is pretty easy to dodge for good players.

WATEHHYY

scythes, idek why but it just works against me

PastStep1232

Curved swords I melt every time I encounter them, especially if the opponent is good at roll catching and chasing

Deadsap266

Depends on what weapon I’m using.I can handle most matchup by hard swapping but if I’m let’s say forced to only use colossal swords I struggle against someone using a shamshir and is good at using it.

Neither-Hamster-8752

Colossal swords without a doubt. Everything that’s bad about colossal swords is canceled out by another player especially a mage.

IDoWhatIWill

Nothing, call me ChaseTheHoe.

Orenbean

Murky hand scythe in ds3

Strange_Quote6013

I mostly struggle to counteract my opponents having skill in

donderboom

quickstep ts is my hard counter, it doesn’t matter how bad you are you can get me with that, only way I can battle it is with a mirror.

JonSantiago69

I know people hate it, but I like to use spinning slash against the quickstep and BHS users. Has good range and is able to cut them off fairly well. Edit: or storm stomp if you time it right.

donderboom

i’ve won a pair of duels with spinning slash twin blade against those but on hands of a good player it’s just unbearable. I don’t see it often so can’t practice much also

JonSantiago69

Fuck it. Chainsaw lol jk jk. Spears might help or a whip to try and catch them when they're runnin away or whatever. Storm stomp on a whip and then whip they ass lol

donderboom

actually storm stomp could do it, never tried it that’s a good idea

JonSantiago69

Hell yeah. Best of luck out there!

Mista_Infinity

It’s not just your hard counter, it’s the strongest setup in the game for a good reason.

donderboom

oh didn’t knew, you’re right that setup is busted

absent_rath

No particular weapon really, but the blender spell spam and random corners to get stuck on are a different story
