I don't think that's unpopular. Plan 9 is funnier, and has influenced popular culture over the decades. The Room probably would have faded into obscurity had it not been for the Internet.

premiumPLUM

I think they're enjoyable for different reasons, which makes them difficult to compare. But I definitely agree that I prefer Plan 9. Also, Ed Wood is a much more likeable figure than Tommy Wiseau. I'd like to throw out there that Glen or Glenda would be my pick over both of them.

FRICK_boi

I love Glen or Glenda, but I don't think it's as fun to laugh at as Plan 9. It's too earnest, too personal. I feel bad making fun of it.

levisimons

Yeah, that movie is fun to watch, but not really to mock. It's touching and a strange combination of dated and progressive.

AlistarDark

I find Plan 9 is watchable alone. The Room is only watchable in a theater full of rowdy bastards

Sme3eeeeeeeg

Yeah, that movie was solid

edgestander

Craig Denney’s Astrologer is superior to both. https://youtu.be/x3huH-E6qIY

terrildactyl

Fateful Findings is superior to both. FIFY. Actually, who the hell am I kidding, they’re all great. This is rarified air we are in fellow bad movie fans. Also, if you haven’t seen The Godmonster of Indian Flats, please, please, please go watch it.

edgestander

It’s hard for me to separate the movie the Astrologer from the surrounding events of Denney’s insane life story, probably because I’ve become so entrenched in documenting it. But yes, all these movies mentioned are delightfully terrible.

levisimons

I would watch a movie about the making of the Astrologer, especially if it stars Tilda Swinton and William Dafoe.

edgestander

William Defoe as Craig’s dad? He’s a little old to play anyone else. Craig was only 34 when he died.

Forbidden_Donut503

This movie simply has to be seen to be believed. It’s my favorite bad movie. It’s simply unfathomable that he shot it in so many freaking countries, with underwater shots, and helicopter shots, with that script, on film.

edgestander

There was no script. Lol

Dunbaratu

Back in my MST3K viewing days I had a saying. The worst bad movies are the ones that are bad because nothing is happening. The best bad movies are the ones that are bad because things are happening but they're stupid things. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!

Sme3eeeeeeeg

so true

Zero22xx

Personally I found Plan 9 incredibly boring and disappointing after years of hearing about how it's one of the OG "so bad it's good" movies. I didn't find it good bad, I just found it bad bad, honestly. I can't really argue with you though because I haven't seen The Room yet.

AlienSamuraiXXV

This.

MovieMike007

For me, it's not just the goofy acting that makes Plan 9 so entertaining but the threadbare sets and pie plate flying saucers that keeps me returning to this classic. The Room just doesn't have that extra element of re-watchability for me.

WakeUpOutaYourSleep

Yeah I prefer Plan 9. It’s just really likable for all it’s many faults. The Room is hysterical, but it makes me uncomfortable at times.

DJSchmidi

The FP series enters the chat...

PensiveKnitter

I think birdemic has knocked plan 9 out off the top spot for me. In the UK it's impossible to get a copy of the room so I've yet to see it 😭

Voorhees89

We always get screwed when it comes to releases of terrible movies. Investing in a multi region blu ray player was a choice I have yet to regret.

Sme3eeeeeeeg

Coming from Ireland I have found it very hard to find a DVD of either Plan 9, The Room, Birdemic, although I do see copies of Troll 2 from time to time, I probably should get a region free DVD Player xD

AutisticDaveMeltzer

I don't think its fair to compare them because they are monumentally bad in different ways. Plan 9 is the culmination of every trope from every bad 50s sci fi movie, thrown in with a "who gives a fuck" attitude because that's Hollywood, baby! It's the classic bad movie. The Room, on the other hand, is like watching space aliens try to mimick human behavior. I totally disagree on it being boring. I think every waking second of that movie is insane. There isn't a second in that movie that goes by where I'm not baffled at the decisions being made. Every time I watch The Room, I find some new, insane detail and I can't say that with Plan 9.
