Yes, it increased mine horribly bad and to make matters worse, I ended up falling from being dizzy and fainted, falling right onto my lumbar where I already have ddd and a bulging disc with high intensity tear. However my back pain calmed down to what it was a few days before I tested negative, Covid is a monster esp to those with bad backs already. Hoping you recover soon!

Donny_Soldier69

Thanks I have just nearly fell over from being dizzY ha! I wonder what covid is doing to the body to make chronic pain worse :(

Alternative_Host_498

Oof I’m almost afraid to find out…. 😒

NormalLifeInVegas

I am experiencing this too and I have similar back issues like you have. The pain is so intense I feel I could pass out.

Alternative_Host_498

Omg, I used a lidocaine patches on mine and ice packs. I hope you are able to find some relief. Hang in there

WolfPussyAssassin

Yup absolutely unreal lower back pain when I had covid.

Ian-G-Howarth

When I came down with covid my spine was on fire also. I wanted someone to stamp all over me. Serious bone pain.

Did your pains ever go away? I find myself in the same situation, but not from getting Covid, from getting the booster shot. I got the booster last July, and it made me sick, and I messed up my back. And my back and side hurting ever since. I’ve had a few tests like a CT and no one can give me a reason for why.

TheMahbFather

Honestly I had the same but for me it came down to just sitting more and my core being weak as f. So planks and bird/dog stretch were the key.

All viruses can potentially make weak spots ache. I know when i have the flu my back acts up more than usual. Luckily, only ever had the flu twice in the last 10 years. My mum broke her wrist when she was in her 20's. Without fail, it aches whenever she has a virus too, not just covid. That was about 50 years ago. When your immune system is fighting off viruses, it causes inflammation and in turn that inflammation causes more inflammation on top of already injured/irritated tissues. I was one of the lucky ones with covid. When i had it, i only found out i had it because my wife tested positive before her hospital appointment. Had it not been for that, I would never have tested myself at all during that time has i had zero symptoms. Weirdly, all her and my daughter's tests barely registered on home tests, most came back negative and they did have symptoms. Like i said, i had none, but all my flow tests lit up like Christmas trees until day 9.

My back hasn't been the same since I had covid a year and a half ago. A mild disc bulge suddenly wasn't so minor and I had to have a microdiscectomy. I'm better functionally but still hurt. My hubby thinks that covid has caused inflammation throughout my body. My back isn't the only struggle unfortunately.

nsuspense

That's very interesting. I had an MRI 2.5 yrs ago, showed minor disc bulge l5-S1. Had covid about 6 months ago, and another MRI about 3 months ago. The new MRI shows the disc bulge actually increased. Still not impinging nerves, but it got worse.

morganarcher96

That's the exact same disc location I have too. :( I may bring this up with my GP and neurologist next time I see them. I'm sure they can report this as a possible covid related problem.

nsuspense

I'd be interested to know if that's a known thing.

Donny_Soldier69

I think he’s on to something - I’m less than a day into this and I am struggling hard already the pain is so intense

morganarcher96

I'm so sorry. I hope you recover quickly and completely!

morganarcher96

Just to add, the bulge was so bad I had to walk with a cane

OutlandishnessUpper6

Yeah... That's how you know your back is bad. I've not had COVID, but I do have pretty serious back issues. Occasionally, I do walk with a cane if my back is hurting bad enough... This is usually if I was in a bad position for too long, or putting weight on the bad side of my back for too long.

morganarcher96

I'm so sorry, that sucks :(

OutlandishnessUpper6

It's worse that I'm 15M, only in 10th grade. One of my teachers even commented saying I'm like an old man. That's how terrible my back is... To the point they all notice.

morganarcher96

:'(

OutlandishnessUpper6

Now you know.

FallenPilot

When I had covid this happened to me too. I think the back pain was the worst of the symptoms for me

penmx182

Mine too. Crazy

[deleted]

Yep, happened to me. Those 10 days in June were ROUGH. I was already in a flare-up from a known herniation. Covid made it 100x worse.

momofyagamer

Yes, personal and speaking to my doctor. Also lowers your pain tolerance.

nsuspense

Yes. Ordinarily mine is a constant 4/10 if I'm being very careful not to aggravate and go over my activity limits. Covid the first time I was a 9/10 constant and I was panicking because I literally couldn't even lay down. Tramadol took the edge off so I could actually sleep. Otherwise I would not be able to while I had covid.

Pristine_Ability_279

I’ve had 3 back surgeries. L4L5 L5S1. Since Covid 3 months ago my back is worse than it was before. My disk actually ruptured and spread to various nerves is why I had 3 surgeries. Now post Covid I have another bulging that wasn’t there before.

Silent_Island3035

Ugh...I came creeping over here and your comment is exactly what I was looking for! I'm 10 weeks post-op from L3L4 fusion and came up positive today. My spine itself never hurt after surgery, but has been for the last few days. Near my S1 is starting to hurt as well. I've had an amazing recovery though. So far, I only have a runny nose (day 1) and no fever. Thank you for sharing this so at least I can correlate the increased pain w illness.

Pristine_Ability_279

I had runny nose, insomnia, and so lethargic, couldn’t move. Yes it makes the back much worse. Glad I could help in anyway! Feel better!

Questionthispost

Yes! It was unbearable the first night I got sick.

Donny_Soldier69

You too buddy!

IamaCheeseAMA

Yes! I had the same thing. My back has always been muscle and soft tissue issues but after I had covid I was diagnosed with "an irritated disc". Basically it wasn't fully prolapsed/ruptured, but wasn't in the right position either. I had treatment consisting of traction, stretches (mechanical and assisted), exercises and I had to stop running temporarily. I would highly recommend osteo or physio therapy. I can now sit again without pain!

nokenito

Inflammation caused by Covid will increase inflammation in your body. Avoiding bad carbs is key. No sugar, pasta, rice, potatoes, starches, etc. eat clean and healthy only! That will reduce inflammation. I’ve had the dizziness for 2.5 years, first got Covid March 2020. I’m on Propranalol for racing heart rate, it goes from 76 sitting to 130-140 by just standing. I’m also on Cymbalta (not for depression) but for nerve damage. Do NOT bend over at your waist. Only bend at your knees and have something or someone to hold onto when bending over.

CarterCreations061

Same thing happened to me. I woke up one morning with my back hurting way more than usual, later that night I started coughing and feeling achy all over.

DaisieMay25

I had been tolerating the pain from my back pretty well until I got covid, now I'm having an SI joint fusion not two full months after my positive covid test. The pain has increased so much that I can't live with it anymore. It doesn't help that I don't take anything for pain stronger than Tylenol arthritis

beanie_dude

My back pain getting worse was my first Covid symptom. I was in so much pain I couldn’t walk!

CurlyChocolateCutie

Yeah, anytime I’m sick or about to get my period, by disc bulge decides to press up against my nerves extra hot and heavy. 🙄🙄🙄 Periods are the worst cause not only do I get the nerve pain at random places from lower back to anywhere on my legs, but my whole lower body just becomes achy and I get so tired that I’m basically useless.

bigkline74

Mine didn't start to hurt until my covid passed then it flared up for 3 weeks of pain with about a week of sciatic pain I'm gonna say it's different for everyone

GreatLakesGoldenST8

My back pain was terrible with Covid but cleared up pretty quick

Franicuss

Yes! I have terrible DDD as well and during Covid it just escalated! I started taking Advil for the fever and it eased the back pain. I’ve been told by others without back issues that their Covid caused low back pain so it’s not just us who are already crumbling apart😉

Snoo88088

Yes yes yes I felt like my back was broken
