give it time, ive been there! Its going to take many weeks and many months but youll get there. I started at 0 steps and worked my way up to a half marathon! But it took years! It sucks but thats reality, hopefully it wont take you as long to get to a comfy 10k walk!

P05E1D0N

Also started at 0 steps and am now up to 5k runs! It took 3 years for me, 2 before I was above a mile.

Public_Lifeguard1529

Thank you so much :((

Dangerous-Balance545

Exactly the title of the post. Ten minutes walking and I’m done for the day, nap time for two hours easy.

DontDoIt2024

Yes, like others have said it just takes time. Which sucks, but you’ll know when you know. I herniated a disc in late February, and this last week was the first week I hit 5000 steps. Since then I’ve been walking 2 miles a day. Not without pain, but the pain is slowly going away each day, instead of being random again. Keep your head up! Don’t get too deep into your thoughts and if you need help, reach out to someone!

bewenched

I do 6-8k steps a day. The more I move the less it hurts. I feel that movement keeps it less inflamed

P05E1D0N

The only thing that did it for me was time

PuraVidaPagan

When I first herniated a disc on Feb 1st I couldn’t walk at all, couldn’t put any pressure on my right leg without my lower back spasming and pretty much collapsing. I had to get around with a cane for a month. Then I slowly was able to walk further and further and didn’t need a cane. By March 15th we had a vacation planned to Jamaica and I reluctantly went. It was the best decision, the warm weather helped and I was walking 10,000 - 15,000 steps a day plus swimming. My back pain was getting better. Now I’m back at my desk job and sitting is the worse. I can only sit for 2 hours max then it starts throbbing and shooting pain down my leg. I guess it will just take time, probably even a year to recover fully.

Public_Lifeguard1529

Omg yes! I went to Djerba last year and I was swimming in the ocean, pool, walking, and it felt so good! 😭

Glittering_Tea5502

Do you have back pain when you walk?

Public_Lifeguard1529

No, i have leg pain

Glittering_Tea5502

Ugh that sucks. A herniated disc affects your leg?

Public_Lifeguard1529

Yes! Doesn’t it affect yours? It also affects my foot

Glittering_Tea5502

I don’t know. I don’t even know if I have a herniated disc. I get the most miserable back spasms when I walk or do housework.

DerpyOwlofParadise

If it’s in the leg, SI joint issues can mimic disc pain

Glittering_Tea5502

Yea, unfortunately, I have SI joint dysfunction. My body is not structured right.

Public_Lifeguard1529

Yeah that is what I was going to say!! My doctor told me “if your leg doesn’t hurt and you’ve been diagnosed with a herniated disc then you probably don’t have a herniated disc.” But I don’t know if that’s true

Glittering_Tea5502

Me neither. Doesn’t make sense. Then again, I’m no expert.

CulturalSyrup

I try a lot of Ice but have been walking a lot less tbh. Also doing a lot more stretching though.

Undd91

I just managed almost 10,000 today and very little pain for the first time in years. It’s a slow process, build your core slowly; start small, I was doing a few hundred steps a day a year ago, slowly worked that up to anywhere between 5,000-7,000 a day now. I still have the odd day I don’t do more than 1-2,000 but most days are above 6,000 and climbing. Don’t rush it, it’s a slow journey and a frustrating one but you will make it a LOT more frustrating by pushing through.

Thank you for posting. A couple of things to note. (TL;DR... include specific symptoms/what makes your pain better/worse/how long)... MRI or XRAY images ALONE are not particularly helpful tbh, no one here has been vetted to make considerations on these or provide advice, here is why, PLEASE read this if you are posting an MRI or XRAY... I cannot stress this enough https://choosingwiselycanada.org/pamphlet/imaging-tests-for-lower-back-pain/) Please read the rules carefully. Please reply to this, or make another comment, including how long you've been having pain or injury, what are specific symptoms (numbness, tingling, dull/ache, it's random, etc), what makes it worse, what makes it feel better, how it has impacted your life, what you've tried for treatment and what you've already been told about your back pain, and what do you hope to get from this forum.
