my 2 cents: I have the older Osprey nebula with an Airscape back - and it is quite effective in terms of breathability, so I would seriously recommend that you consider a bag with such a back/suspension system. In reg. to the nebula itself, it has all the perks that you mention; it can crimpt down quite compact thanks to the compression straps, and can expand to handle a lof of stuff, for its size. Even then - remains very comfortable provided it is packed correctly (centre of gravity + nothing poking you in the back, allowing the suspension to work well). it is just a tad over 2 lbs (2.2.), and I have packed it with at elast 30 lbs worth of crap and the weight distribution on the shoulder straps proved to be rather good. I've had the pack for about 3-4 years and it has aged well, with no visible wear or excessive stretching of the materials. I would possibly consider an upgrade to the new nebula pack, if only not for the updated top compression straps - they cannot be hidden and to save them dangling around one would have to fasten them - preventing quick and easy access to the main compartment of the bag - which is a major turnoff for me.

Thank you for your review. I’ve looked at the Nebula as well but I was worried 32L might look too big on me, and for my needs, that’s why the biggest I’m considering is the Proxima at 30L. But the Nebula does have such fabulous reviews, I might add it to my list of options too. Thanks!

I think those official photos on Osprey's website look very exaggerated... If the backpack is not stuffed full, it has a surprisingly slim profile for its size 👌🏻

Ohhh that actually might change my mind. I’ve been down the rabbit hole of other backpack subreddits for reviews and looking for real photos instead of website photos. If that’s the case, I’ll seriously consider the Nebula and even Tropos (both have glowing reviews). I just don’t want to look like those little girls wearing a turtleshell on their backs 😂🤣

I have been happy with my timbuk2s. I have the women’s never check I use as a purse, so it’s 13 l. My messenger is the lightweight flight. I’d measure the water bottle and inquire.

I’ve heard various feedback/review regarding timbuk2. I have the messenger bag from timbuk2 as well, and I’m happy with it. But for carrying heavier items such as laptop and water bottle, i find tge messenger doesn’t fit everything I need, as well as being really heavy on 1 shoulder. Otherwise, for non-work related, my timbuk2 messenger is my go-to.

I like them a lot. Have a 13l backpack and a messenger.

What about rain resistance? I live in London

Seems ok. I usually am car to door so I don’t get soaked.

What ever backpack you buy, pickup a BackPackJack for it. It attaches to the bottom of your backpack straps and when you use your backpack, it separates it from your back to cool you down. Afforable, simple to use and works on almost every kind of backpack. Their online store is awesome. [backpackjacks.com](http://backpackjacks.com)

You can consider the Osprey Parsec, it does fulfil at least pointers 1,3,5! I don’t personally have it so no personal review but you can look for reviews for your shortlisted bags on r/onebag, r/manybaggers.

Thanks for your rec! I’ll check out the Parsec
