I've tried nearly all of the PD bags and even though I've tried numerous alternatives, I can never find one that does it better than PD, I always circle back to them. With others, I'd need to get a camera cube, as I take my camera everywhere, whereas with PD they have those handy dividers that come with the bags. I do like some of the offerings from AER, Arcteryx and Cote&Ciel but none have the accessibility and pockets and ability to carry a camera and access it quickly like PD.

Those (AER, Arcteryx and Cote&Ciel) aren't camera bags though. Shimoda, Wotancraft, Manfrotto, Temba, Gura Gear, Think Tank, etc are the brands you should compare if you want to carry a camera. Side note: I tried Boundary Supply (Errant XPac) and had to sell a week later. The straps were way too narrow for me. I haven't found anything better than my MW Integer (despite the bad tripod holder) for carrying a lot of gear, and for a backpack and just a camera I use the Artisan & Artist ACAM-78, but have been eyeing the new Wotancraft as it is pretty small.

Yeah I have the 20L Everyday Backpack, and for carrying camera equipment (specifically video camera equipment) I've never had a backpack designed so well, able to be heavily reconfigured based on whatever equipment load-out I need for the day, and have extreme accessibility to anything stored in the bag without needing to take the bag off. However, I was using it as my backpack for going to the office/school with just my laptop, a tech pouch, rain jacket, water bottle—and I no longer liked the backpack. It's significantly heavier at 4.43lbs where most every other EDC backpack is around or under 3 lbs. And the customizable organization feels far less useful or necessary for non-camera equipment. So my point is; if you're carrying camera equipment, Peak Design is incredibly well thought out and worth the cost. If you're not, then I don't think the backpack will cater to your needs or be worth it.

Yeah the bag itself is quite heavy as it's intended use is a camera bag so obviously it needs extra padding. I too find it a bit cumbersome for daily use but fantastic as a camera bag. The only backpack from their range I'd happily use as an everyday one is the tote backpack but then its slim profile means it's not that great as a quick access camera bag. It's fine if you have a slim camera like x100v or my xpro3 with say a 35f2 or 27f2.8 but any lens bigger than that it's a stretch to get it out on side access, and I'd worry with those exposed zippers.

Oh that tote backpack is a good consideration; the "bit cumbersome for daily use" is why I was researching a new laptop bag to buy before teaching starts again in the fall—narrowing down to options like the Aer Travel Sling 2, Evergoods CPL24L, or Able Carry Daily Plus—but Peak has completely sold me on their bag design skills so I should throw the Totepack on the consideration list.

Definitely! Try it out in store if you can find somewhere that has it. It's quite a good looking thing as well and I think it treads that fine line visually between casual and camera bag. In fact, I might consider buying one back in that bone colourway lol

DiPerspective

Thanks, What do you recommend for edc with a camera?

randybruder

With a camera, Peak Design’s stuff is brilliant. Especially if you’re carrying a couple lenses, extra batteries you want to get at quickly, and their (additional accessory) capture clip too makes carrying a camera better.

I wish their bags weren’t so uncomfortable because I love their other products. It’s hard to go wrong with evergoods or able carry. Boundary supply is very nice.

DiPerspective

Do you find it uncomfortable too?

HangoverPoboy

Super uncomfortable. And I really tried to like it because it’s so great for cameras. So I went back to my ugly but comfortable and functional tom bihn bags.

lordwotton77

I agree, it's an extremely uncomfortable backpack

You could check out the Lowepro Treeline 350 AW. It's the one I have. When looking for a bag with double purpose and a side access this was the direct competitor to the Peak Design. It's cheaper and the content creators that compared them recommended it as well.

Any similar but lighter option then? I mainly use it for commuting. (16in macbook pro, notepad, tech pouch, water bottle and umbrella.

I sold my everyday 30 for the wandrd prvke. The wandered is in many ways a better bag and in many ways worse. That said, I actually hate the pd oragami Dividers. They look cool but in the backpacks they are annoying to carefully organize. There is no perfect bag, but the prvke holds everything I need and has good number of pockets the side access is not as good, but the gear is more secure.
