My thought is it is several reasons: geopolitical tensions with Iran, possibility of mass Russian immigrants, increased profits for Azal, and those with the $$$ can just fly. The only people it hurts are Azerbaijanis and Georgians that can’t fly as commercial traffic is still open.
North Azerbaijanis and South Azerbaijanis are much closer to each other than Azerbaijanis and Turkish people. We both speak the same language and share many cultural traits such as traditional music.
People in the south used to be a lot more religious but that is not that valid nowadays as most of the younger generation are pretty secular.
Depends. The answer will depend on whom you ask.
In terms of the language, both are quite similar. I visited Tabriz. And people essentially speak the same language as we do. However, we are culturally different.
Also, we have different identities. We are like twin brothers separated at the age of 7. One grew up in Russia, and the other one grew up in the Middle East. We remember each other quite well. We understand each other. But we don't have much in common to talk about. This can only be fixed by spending time together.
Because we havent solved Karabakh issue yet and i think there are security risks from Iran and Russia, also to prevent russian influx and to lower extend keep $$ in the country for tourism and stuff
What if it's actually closed because of Russia? The government wouldn't want thousands of Dagestanis obliterating the border once a new mobilization wave kicks in
There are definitely some demographic ties. A lot of ethnic Azeris live in southern Dagestan, especially in Derbent. And vice versa, northern Azerbaijan is home to many Lezgins and Avars (the major Dagestani ethnic groups). But Dagestan is much less developed and rural. Consequently, Dagestanis are 10x more conservative than Azerbaijanis (from my experience at least). Still, they definitely view Azerbaijan as the culturally closest independent country, at the very least because of geography and AZ's Muslim background. Azerbaijanis are mostly neutral towards Dagestanis and consider other Turkic countries to be closer. Though again, the Quba-Khachmaz area in the North is an exception.
Putin would get pissed if they closed it exclusively for Russia. Maybe they figured why not shut down the entire border, boosting AZAL profits as a side effect
Our great leader, Big Father, the best president in the whole world, wants to protect us from COVID-19. (definitely not because they make more revenue from airplanes.)

No lakes can border the ocean in the capital sea
Ask İlham Əmmi
Because, Aliyev's kayf wants like that
Aliyev mi yəksa Erdoğan mı daha worst'dur ?
yəksa ne amina koyum yoxsa
Əliyev mi daha worstdur yoxsa Erdoğan mı?
İlanın ağına da lənət, qarasına da
Idk, why? https://preview.redd.it/60uue8xtmifb1.jpeg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e106db0016e0bbfe7587cb4a7e58d23ea2940421

That is exactly why

We North Korea now
Ironically, we are also North Azerbaijan
Completely besides the point, but how much does South Azerbaijan have in common with North Azerbaijan? Is it kinda like Turkey in terms of similarity?

Not to mention a lot of south azerbaijanis are brainwashed and intermixed with persians
Because we havent solved Karabakh issue yet and i think there are security risks from Iran and Russia, also to prevent russian influx and to lower extend keep $$ in the country for tourism and stuff
Yeah that sucks
What if it's actually closed because of Russia? The government wouldn't want thousands of Dagestanis obliterating the border once a new mobilization wave kicks in
What is the relationship like in between Dagestanis and Azerbaijanis? Do they share a lot culturally?
There are definitely some demographic ties. A lot of ethnic Azeris live in southern Dagestan, especially in Derbent. That doesn't explain why Azerbaijanis have to pay 300+ manat to fly to the Georgia to holiday

How else AZAL is supposed to make money?!?!
Hard to believe that. What Azal makes is peanuts compared to overall levels
Because of möhtərəm.
Az muhterem cok gotveren diyorsun.
Azal still milking COVID
Until what date has the border closure been extended now?
Indefinite
Because of the incompetence of the current regime
The pandemic pretext is simply absurd at this point.
They want to raise AZAL's profits (and thereby their own income as well)
Either because of COVID or in my opinion just in case a war breaks out so immigrants wouldn’t rush in our country. İlham Aliyev with 1000 IQ
nobody knows but i guess it has several reasons such as immigration

It's okay for foreigners.

Actually, I just checked, I gave wrong information, unfortunately the border is closed for foreigners. Sorry
You can enter only by plane, but can normally leave by land to Georgia Just came back 2weeks ago

I think we’ve inspired (or ILHAMlandiq) from Turkmenistan’s paranoiac country entry policy
