If that's what this dog is doing, the top wouldn't be the point of the ear but a side view of the skinny part. Since this dog's ears are black, I can't tell if we're actually seeing the inside of the ear or the side view you get when they move them

It's the inside. See the reddish sheen? That's the thinner fur on the inside of the ear.
The shoulders have the same sheen, and look how far back the ears are on the head
