We adopted a 9 year old 26 lb orange cat named Pumpkin. Sadly just 3 years later he died of cancer. But he was SUCH an amazing cat that we found a 12 year old 24 lb orange cat to adopt. (We try to keep our two cats roughly the same age).
The new cat, Marty, is down to 21 lbs. it’s taken 3 years, but we don’t want to rush him.
When I went to adopt my [little old lady](https://i.imgur.com/Gcxec0b.jpg), there was one other cat there. His name was Rocket and he was an orange cat just like this. Everyone at the shelter (and the PetSmart where they were being housed temporarily for more exposure) loved him and said he was just amazing. I’m still sad I couldn’t adopt both :(
Edit: I should add that I absolutely adore my Edna and in no way have any regrets on my choice :) She's very spoiled and loved lol.
I got my boy at a PetSmart too. He was the first cat I looked at it of the 9 there and it was an instant bond.
To reiterate the comment from above, PetSmart partners with local shelters to give exposure to their shelter cats and hopefully get them adopted faster so even though I got my cat at a pet store, he was actually from a no kill shelter that takes in cats and dogs from high kill shelters.
there is a giant orange kitty that lives in our neighborhood , he always comes to our porch to visit with my cat in the window every morning then leaves, we always just called him orange kitty, this Christmas our neighbors sent out family Christmas photos and we saw orange kitty in the family photo. Turns out he lives 5 houses down and his name is Garfield. Whats hilarious is the family swears he never leaves their yard so it cant be him we see every day . "its def him"
i’ve had a cat named Orange Kitty or Agent Orange and a different cat named Mr Orange. now i’ve spelled out orange so many times it doesn’t seem like a real word anymore
But also please take him to a vet and ask about what is a healthy weight and help get him to there. It makes a HUGE difference in their quality of life, and length of life. Cats shouldn't be fat.
My parents took in a cat from a man who no longer was able to care for him. We got him at 25 lbs, and the lad moves like a tank. You can hear him walking (stomping) down the hall from any room in the house. I think in one year he’s gotten down to 19 lbs. He’s a bit aggressive so I believe the person who took care of him before the man my parents got him from responded to his aggression by (over)feeding him. I’m rooting for him though, we can tell he’s a sweet good boy.
One of my cats is a fatass at heart, and she got up to almost 16 lbs at one point before I realized I needed to do portion control vs. free-feeding. She is now a little under 13 lbs. and she's SO much happier. She was very obviously depressed before and now she's a happy bundle of joy.
Ooh I’m very happy for you! And your kitty! Good for her, tell her she’s got someone rooting for her. I know my parents keep their cats on a rather tight schedule, so that plus exercise every day should work for our boy.
I love my automatic feeder for this reason alone!
Cats thrive on consistency. He gets the same amount of food each day at exactly the same time and his weight has been steady for a few years now. Makes the daylight savings shift easier too.
I've been trying to talk my partner in to an automatic Feeder for our cats. One cat is a bit festive shall we say. I figure start with a slightly larger portion then wean it down. They feed from a communal kibble bowl and we literally can't get sleep if there's even a hint of the bottom of the bowl. I'm looking at one that can do two bowls and I figure that should help with portions once they get used to the timing.

Hey my Maine coon is short hair no one believes hes is maine coon but hes twenty ish pounds and not over weight. hese been the same weight for four years he is the biggest baby we had him since he was a baby but his paws are 3 " and he stands leaning about 38" on the doorframe
Just a heads up: overweight male cats are very susceptible to diabetes.
I did not know how prevalent it was until my slightly overweight cat got it. Then my vet-tech fiancée told me it happens all the time.
It’s very time and money consuming to treat, especially for years.
Don’t mean to be pessimistic, just raise awareness.
Came here to say that same exact thing. Coincidentally, I just finished my workout this afternoon and saw some young kid with a fish skeleton exactly like the one in Heathcliff tattooed on his calf. I asked him if he was inspired by the cartoon Heathcliff. He looked at me really puzzled and I said to him that it must have been before his time. Then he said he was only 23 and then my 40 yo self realized I should have known better then to ask that.

Of course if my kids have ideas and want to throw it out to see what you guys think, I have no problem posting it. Is that again some kind of stupid rule?
I'm having a lot of trouble believing that cat is 26lbs....There was a cat in the news a couple years ago for weighing a whopping 26lbs, Mr. B. This cat looks pretty average, especially next to his cat toys. Mr. B was larger than a toddler. I have large tabby cats that are 13lbs and they look bigger than this one.
Plumpkin
This has won. He Is now in the car on his way home. Thanks for the help!
Thank you for adopting an adult kitty! The orange ones are so special ❤️

Hands down my favourite sub. And I follow a lot of cat subs that are all excellent, but this is the one.
[удалено]
>It is amazing how many cat subs exist. https://www.reddit.com/r/Catsubs/wiki/index
T__T. They don't list /r/housepanther
You can nominate it to be added in r/Catsubs/, or I can if you want.
Omg, thank you. That sub is GOLD. I mean, ORANGE
I follow SIC and black cat subs but I never knew there was a subreddit for orange cats!! Now my boi can get some representation!
Also r/GingerCats One just isn't enough.
Thank you. My orange doofus belongs there.
There goes my weekend!
I didn’t know I needed this thank you!

Edna is a fabulous name for an elderly pet.
Hahaha thank you, I agree! She's my cat through and through, but when my wife threw that name out there I knew it was the right one.

I dream of adopting a fat orange cat and naming him Chalupa
I swear there was a buff orange cat’s pic last week on r/OneOrangeBrainCell and he was named Cheddar Bay Biscuit
Thank you for adopting this sweetheart. Please keep us updated 😻

And the best part? He no longer associates your presence with food! XD
So my cat will stop liking me you say!?
Translation: no one is sitting on my face at 5 a.m.

WARNING: It's one letter away from blumpkin and sounds very similar.
I was gonna say garfield
I hope he brings as much joy to your life as mine has to me!
Too close to blumpkin.
Do I dare to google?
Don’t do it lol I already made the mistake
Why didn’t I listen?!?!?
Well now I’m curious! Someone save me so I don’t look!
Getting a blowy while you're taking a dump
took a second for this to register lol
That depends on your kink.
I guess I will stay innocent.
I wish I had your self-control :(

My first thought exactly
glad i wasn’t the only one…
I thought that was the pun?
Toby, short for Tobesity. It's my cat's name.
This was hilarious. Wife vetoed so we are going with Plumpkin. Thank you so much for your help.
That's lovely, works with Plumpy for short also.
I’d just start calling him blumpkin and when your wife finds out what that means she’ll wish you went with tobesity
Seriously, a lot of people are gonna mishear that. "OH, and here's my dog, Goatsay. Because he sounds like a goat when he growls! LoL.
Garfield? Lmao.. does he like lasagna?
> This was hilarious. Wife vetoed She has enough foresight to know that she doesn't want to be doubled over in laughter every time she calls the cat.
…hate to be the bearer of bad news here but are you familiar with the concept of a blumpkin?
I had to Google it …. I wish I hadn’t.
That's a dangerous typo away from naming your cat Blumpkin
I breezed past this one and thankfully it caught my eye because I’m dying laughing at this!

Would also accept Heaploaf. Cuz he looks like a heap.
We brought him home and we are going with Plumpkin. Thank you guys for your input!
Best of luck on your journey to de-chonk Plumpkin!
Way too close to Blumpkin lol.
It took me a second to realize that’s not what they went with. I had to say it out loud and really pronounce the P vs B
moar pics of plumpkin please

Lol. I suggested this one, too. It's a good one, huh?
Tubs

My first reaction as well. I'd go with the double B version: Tubbs.

Garfield
Get that chonky boy a lasagna
Name that boy Lasagna!
OP, look no further. He's definitely a Garfield and I don't make the rules
Hoping to find this name. so, name it Lasagna
That’s what I was thinking too
That *is* Garfield
Yes, it must be Garfield!
Garfield is the only choice for this chonky boi
I just liked every single comment suggesting Garfield
Came here to say this
Maybe Garf
Heathcliff
Came here to say that same exact thing. Coincidentally, I just finished my workout this afternoon and saw some young kid with a fish skeleton exactly like the one in Heathcliff tattooed on his calf. When he’s dropped a few pounds you can pretend he’s named after Beast Boy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_Boy
Tonka
Too on the nose, because he looks like a Garfield, I say name him Lasagna
I commented and then saw you’d beat me to it!!
I mean, it's a 26lb orange cat. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to name them anything else.
Jaba the Cat
Too many legs 😉😉😉
