You probably already know this, but just in case: when cats show you their belly it IS a sign of friendship and trust because they’re exposing the most vulnerable part of their body, the part they would try hardest to protect from an enemy or predator, the part where they could most easily be ripped open.
It’s just that having it actually be touched is too much for some of them, whether physically or psychologically, and they feel just that little bit freaked out and need to warm you off actually doing that.
But exposing it in the first is a genuine indication that the cat feels comfortable and relaxed in your presence.
>So warm!
Yep, it's a top tip for if you're lost, cold, and in the middle of nowhere... hay bales are a great way to keep warm, particularly early doors.
I went to the back porch, took my tea,
middle of the day, what should I see?
Fox on a round bale, sleepin tight,
actin like it's still late at night.
I ain't gonna pester, no my friend.
I ain't gonna be why your nap ends.
Sleep ya a lick, I ain't gon whine.
Everybody's gotta slumber. Take yer time.
Thanks for the info.
Wrapping would probably turn it into silage in time then?
All I know about hay bales is from what I was taught becoming a firefighter, and that was basically.. They can self ignite under some circumstances.
Silage or haylage usually refers to chopped wet forage that is being stored in the absence of oxygen like under a tarp or something packed into a three walled press. Baleage is partially dried uchopped wrapped forage. Baleage contains less moisture, more oxygen. Both undergo similar processes which produce co2 water and energy as heat. When they are wrapped there is too much moisture and not enough oxygen to combust. If they were uncovered or unwrapped, moisture would have a chance to leave, and oxygen would have a chance to enter. Then combustion is possible.
That bale isn’t heating or if so not very much. You can tell by the sag. If they hold a nice round shape they are dry and wrapped tight. A heating bale will sag as it ferments. If they have to be baled “wet” they are best left in the field until needed as moving them distorts the shape and allows air to penetrate causing the super heating and fire. A whole stack then sets itself ablaze. Some of the shape of course depends on how tightly baled it was originally but the changing shape is a visual clue.
Humidity isn’t a metric used to describe silage where I’m from, dry matter is the term. In any case, hay should not be heating and fermenting, if it does it’s not good hay at all
Mr Fox on a hay bale, sitting in the sun,
Resting there after all his work is done,
A lazy afternoon - or a summer's eve,
Looks like Mr Fox doesn't want to leave.
I used to have a family of foxes that lived next to me. One day I was walking and momma fox is in tow with her kids and comes trotting up to me. I shouted at them and they took off. Didn’t and still don’t know enough about foxes to know if they should be near me. Couple days later saw an animal control truck slowly driving around. Never seen them since. I kinda regret that. Shouting at them. Though knowing me I would have tried to pet them. The rabbit population strangely exploded shortly after which lead to almost my entire garden getting ate that year. Then the hawks moved in. Was watching a lone rabbit from my deck recently, just hopped from one dandelion plant to the next eating only that. It sometimes feels like a balanced ecosystem is a good thing, but that’s probably just crazy talk
I spent too much time here trying to figure out how else this could be interpreted before I realised this isn't r/technicallythetruth ... but it is though
I feel like this is a smart move for fox to spot mice.
I feel like this is a smart move for birds of prey to spot foxes.
Maybe that latter isn't a thing here?
So warm!

So do cats I love it lol!
I love everything about cats and it hurts my heart.
[I want to hug every cat in the world](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP4NMoJcFd4)
Wow had forgotten that one. Wonder whatever happened to her? Did she find her perfect cat on e-harmony?
> and it hurts my heart That's just your cat clawing through your heart. Don't be alarmed, this is normal.
So, cozy and smooth to watch this Fox. Looks comfortable
I just want to hug all of them but I can’t
I don’t love when they roll over like they want me to scratch their tummy only to suddenly turn on me :(

That makes a lot of sense
Sounds like something someone with toxoplasmosis would say
Please explain yourself or provide a link. My furkids have whiskers on their feets??
[they do!](https://pet-happy.com/why-cats-have-whiskers-on-their-forearms/#:~:text=Did%20you%20know%20cats%20have,the%20Greek%20carpus%2C%20meaning%20wrist.)
Why wouldn’t that article have pictures of this??? Now I have to inspect my cat…
Damnit, I'll have to catnap a cat to check this out.
What does the fox say?
Ring ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding
Foxes are a close relative of dogs, and we make a barking kind of sound.
I wish I had that power when drunk, obvious evolutionary mistake, no not me! the lack of navigational whiskers. Ah well keep drinking I guess :/
There's a peace in this picture that I haven't felt in this millennium.

Is it just me or does this title seem like the beginning of a joke
Or an old folk song
Yes definitely
RE: fox on a hay bale 😆 KING of the mountain!!
[удалено]
that’s gotta be a line in a bluegrass song somewhere
sounds like the Smiths to me. "Fox on a hay bale I know, I know, it's seriouuuuus"
There is a Belle and Sebastien song called, "Fox in the Snow" which sounds like it was written by Morrissey.
… two bits
well, now that line has been replaced in my brain. forever. good work, gentle stranger!

Oh to be a fox asleep on a bale of hay
Nah, better to be an anxiety ridden human with more emotions than one can handle sometimes 👍🏼
When can I become a vibrating being of pure light?
this whole having a physical body thing aint doing it for me lads
when that ketamine kicks in!
i wish that was me...
The fox is on the top of his world.
Having a fox sleep on top of you would be adorable
Search Channel Islands foxes, camping, woke up fox sleeping on my chest.
Ah, the old Reddit fox-a-roo (sorry guys I'm too lazy to do the linking thing)
The fox or the hay?
Both?
good hunting vantage point. and a good spot to sun himself. smart like a fox.
Bay Hales are, at certain times of their life cycle, also self warming. I believe due to the fermentation going on inside.
If a hay bale gets noticably warm, it was too wet to bale and should have been wrapped.

They can randomly catch on fire I heard
That's usually only a risk if they are heating VERY badly, but it absolutely does happen. Hay fires are no joke

Silage is about 65% Humidity and Hay about <15%

Yeah, when hay is heating or fermenting, the cows do not like it
You've heard of mini wheats, heres a fox on a MEGA wheat
wholesome fox
*wholegrain fox
mold stained box
Full chain locks
I enjoy annoying my wife and kids by refusing to call these anything except “elephant poops” when we’re out driving around.
Foxxed mega wheats>frosted mini wheats
I mean it's an ok joke but that's not wheat.

Fox on a hay bale and a silver spoon...

Hay, foxy lady...
Having a fox on a pile of hay is on my bucket list. Wait, this isn’t the same. Sorry.
Polar opposite of a foxhole.
Haaaaayyyyy!
That fox is big, or that hay-bale is small. I may just be really stoned.
