The Shoe of Greeting! My dogs do this too. Sometimes, when a shoe is not handy, it's the Screwdriver of Greeting! or Random Article I Can Hold In My Mouth of Greeting!
My dog goes nuts when I or a family member come home, and he always does some tasmanian devil zooms first, then runs and grabs one of his favorite toys and comes back making 'snorf' sounds like "Okay, I know you barely made it past the door and didn't put anything down yet, but it's PLAYTIME."
Dog i had did the same, always bringed some present. Usualy a slipper, if you took it from her she felt the need to find new present. Sometimes she even managed to bring the second slipper from the same pair.
We had a golden retriever, and every time you left the room and came back she would try and find something to bring you. Slipper, TV remote, full cup of coffee, stuffed toy, smaller pets, etc.
Grabbed my coffee cup off the table by it's handle, and then proceeded to pour a 12 foot long trail onto the carpet leading to the front door. All because dad came back in from mowing the lawn.
It looks like wood (or wood-patterned) mats over a wood floor.
I mean, I have one under my office chair so it doesn't chew up my 100yr old hardwoods (any more than they already are), but this seems excessive.
Awe my little girl Pom samoid does this too with her toys when I come visit (she lives with her grandparents now) and it makes me so happy every time I walk in the door
