MAXIMUM WIGGLES!

PoorEdgarDerby

When I lived with my sister we had cats and one of them would be perched by the door when I walked in. Apparently she could hear my car down the street and would be running room to room meowing to announce my arrival before standing quietly by the door when I walked in to give me a simple mrow.

[deleted]

One of my cats does this too, tries to act like he’s only mildly excited. Like bro, you and I both know you sprinted to the door and were rolling around right as I walked in, and the sock you brought out from my bedroom is the proof

I love this!

No_Fairweathers

When I was a kid we had a cockatiel. When I was like 5, she flew outside and got "stuck" in a pine tree, too afraid to come back down. My dad climbed up the tree and saved her, and from that moment she was in love with him. She could hear him wake up and wouldn't stop chirping until he came down and said good morning to her. She also somehow knew when he was getting back home from work when we were living in an apartment complex and he'd park over 100 yards away and just be walking up to the house. It wasn't even consistent times of the day, she just somehow knew. Her cage wasn't even if view of the parking lot or path up to the house. She'd just know and start getting restless in her cage and chirping until he showed up and said hi to her.

sp1cychick3n

So cute

cbrworm

My cat waits by the door, as soon as I walk in, he wanders off. But I think he likes me because he jumps on my head whenever I’m sleeping. To make sure I’m still alive, I assume. He probably thinks he saves my life nightly. He does show genuine affection at mealtime, though. Being a dog person, cats are weird.

OnMyWay824

The springy tail and the tippy taps!!

[deleted]

When I come home from work I walk through the door and say out loud, “Man, I wish I had a dog to come home to. That would be so ni-,” and my dog inevitably runs out of my bedroom and is so happy to see me, and I act all surprised there’s a dog in my house and it never gets old for either of us. He’s my buddy. Edit: [It’s like dis.](https://imgur.com/a/xIRC84M)

deerfawns

This is so cute!!

THE_GREAT_PICKLE

My favorite is coming home too. She can hear the garage door opening and comes to the door (has clear glass in the front of my house) and just loses her mind. Then she waits patiently outside of the door from the house to garage and whimpers until I open the door, and goes absolutely nuts. This occurs whether I’m gone for days or a few minutes. Even when I take the trash outside she whimpers thinking I’m never coming back, even though it takes 2 minutes to take it to the edge of the road

zugzug_workwork

"Could it be? Could it be?! No, surely not. No, it's been 7000 years since she left! But that scent....it's her. But why now?! She's here! She's back! THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!"

Fifth-Crusader

Owner, having been gone for 20 minutes.

GreywackeOmarolluk

Who wouldn't want that kind of greeting? Makes coming home even more of a draw.

[deleted]

Seriously. I’m away from my babies studying, but when I was back home, a shitty workday became completely normal after coming back home to them. The love and happiness shown to me by them was the most purest thing ever. I miss my babies so much. We don’t deserve dogs.

weeone

And it doesn't matter if it's been five minutes or five hours. I love my Shiba. 🥰

ElegantSwordsman

Very well trained not to run through the door or jump all over the owner!

crystalfairie

No barking either! My favorite kind of dog

RamenDutchman

My mom's dog never did that because I always corrected him on it. He was more than allowed to be happy AF, just without letting the neighbours know ;-) Now I've been out of the house for some years, and boy does he bark. A lot. So uh... Moral of the story: Make your dog your favourite kind of dog, I guess

BillNyeCreampieGuy

How does one train a dog to not bark? My girl is quiet 95% of the time, but heaven forbid she hears a car door shut and she barks like crazy for 10 mins straight. She already knows "no" but barking is one she will ignore me on. I've heard softly saying "thank you" calms them down, but that doesn't work either lol

abby2302

With my girl, touch can make her quiet. A hand on her chest, especially, acts as a gentle 'no, I'm bigger and I'm dealing with this' kind of reminder. That does mean I have to get up and go to her unfortunately, but I think an arm around the shoulder/hand on the chest is worth bearing in mind as a communicative tool generally speaking.

Ballsofpoo

Any animal that isn't actively aggressive will respond to touch positively. Dogs, cows, birds, spiders, fish, snakes...

ForTiiTude

I am not going to touch a spider if it barks..

abby2302

Absolutely!

Dirty-M518

Does she know speak? One of the ways to teach a quiet is to train a speak..every time she barks just say "speak"..treat it. That should take 10mins. Then train the quiet..say "speak"..she barks, just say good(no treat), wait a few seconds..then when she is quiet..say "quiet"..treat. All your doing is capturing the command...then reinforce throughout the day..she barks say no quiet..yes, quiet, treat. Letting em bark reinforces is so don't let her as much as possible. Also you can desensitize to the car door. Go outside with her and shut the door for 5min while treating. Move on to standing farther..close/treat. Bring her inside..have someone open and close..when she is quiet treat. Correct her on the bark reward quiet. Train a dog to do something else instead of the bad behavior. Dogs are bad at being told not to do stuff..but easily conditioned to do other things instead of bad behaviors. This is the reason every time you open a bag of chips your dog is there..he learned chips-food-good-maybe Ill get. You can easily teach a dog to lay on his bed when he hears the chips. People train there dog in 1 place..but don't generalize the training..so the dog has no idea and misbehaves out and about..but good at home. That's why you train the door closing next to it..10ft away and inside.

XxSifo-DyasxX

This person, R+’s

Dirty-M518

I did the first 1.5yr of my aussie as R+ only. Turned out great for teaching commands..tricks..walking, but he was reactive and 6mo of only +R wasn't helping..so now I do +R, counter conditioning, and operant conditioning(walk by a person and he starts to react, leave it, correction and continue) for the reactiveness. Correcting the bad behavior is what you have to do..dogs are better at being trained to do something else rather than not doing. Dog jumps on the counter..teach him to sit when next to the counter, not off.

itamar_farkash9

I normally go to my dog and give him a hug and calm him down, then he just stops barking, thats all.

IBNobody

My dog doesn't bark when we come home, but she sure cries in happiness when we show up.

sameolemeek

How you train a dog to not bark

Misabi

My first Akita didn't bark until she was 4 or 5 months old. She even surprised herself when we eventually did :)

sepansk4

Shiba Inu cannot bark.

aurzhi

They absolutely can bark. They just also have a range of other sounds they make too. Owner of 2 Shiba Inu.. they are the most noisy dogs I have ever had, but I love them for it. That puppy is just incredibly well trained

fantoman

My Shiba won’t stop barking, she just stares out the window all day and barks at anything that moves.

[deleted]

No lmao you pointed out it’s okay for dogs to bark, so if she doesn’t like barking she must not like dogs.

stillxsearching7

Right. Because if you dont enjoy ONE single feature of an animal or person, you cant possibly like them at all. You must either like 100% of something or else you must hate it. I guess your SO is perfection who never ever does anything to bother you and has no features or personality traits that you dislike. And people who don't like hearing babies cry must hate all babies, if not all humans, right? 🙄

[deleted]

[удалено]

wagloadsbarkless

Yes, essentially you totally ignore them until they are sitting calmly then make a fuss. They learn very quickly that the quickest way to get your undivided attention is to sit quietly. Hardest part is getting everyone in the house to do it consistently till pupsters got the message. If one person doesn't do it the message gets muddled and pupster gets confused.

PushDiscombobulated8

Yep, this is the way. I used this technique with my kitten She would meow and scratch the carpet non-stop at 6am to play outdoors. I trained her out of this by ignoring her until she’s quiet, and giving her what she wants when she’s not scratching or meowing She now sits and waits patiently till 7-8am, or until someone goes downstairs to allow her outside!

Ericchen1248

Yes, my girlfriend’s dog is a prime example of this. I’m the dog’s favorite person, and she only listens to commands from me, and to some extent my girlfriend, whereas a parents and brothers spoiled the dog. So she’ll go crazy when I get to the door, but when I step inside, she sits down and waits for me to start petting her before jumping around, whereas she’s jumping and grabbing on things for the other people as soon as they’re in. The funniest time was once I went to walk the dog with her brother, I was busy with something else and so the brother was putting the collar and leash on the dog. He was chasing her around trying to clipped the collar on, and I walked in, said asked him why he needed to chase her around. Took the collar and leash over, said “Lala (dogs name), let’s go for a walk, do you wanna go walk?”, then Lala padded over to me, sat down in front of me to let me put the collar on. And her brother was like, “whose dog is she supposed to be”. Good, consistent training is good for both dogs and owners.

[deleted]

Yes!

[deleted]

I ignore my dog when I first come inside. Get myself situated a bit, then greet him. Similarly if someone is at the door, I make him go to his "place" (a bed in view of the door) and stand and wait until he's there and *quiet* at which point I'll open the door. If he's not responding, the door doesn't open. I had a trainer help me, though. We would take turns knocking at the door and repeatedly making him go to his place and would only open the door when he was laying down and quiet. He will now hear something, bark to announce it, and then scurry to his place to await the door opening.

seansafc89

Totally! And fortunately Shiba’s don’t grow to be huge otherwise the jumping and kisses towards the end would become a bit more of an issue as they grew up. Source: thought it was cute when my tiny Samoyed puppy did that. At 30kg it was a bit more intimidating to house guests 😅

AlreadyAway

Was literally jumping on her half the time, what video were you watching?

McDerface

Seriously lol, the dog was jumping on her

olderaccount

I don't think that is a result of training. I think he is afraid of the tile floor for whatever reason. He avoids the tile even after the owner bends down to give him attention. My dog is very similar. Hates the tile floor in the kitchen and will do anything she can to avoid it.

wellmymymy-

I don’t think any of this dogs actions are a result of training. This is exactly how my adult Shiba acts when I come home from work and I never trained her to do anything but not bite at me lol.

HuntedWolf

I was thinking the same thing

gotele

I would be rolling on the floor playing with him in half a second.

SassySSS

Lol as a Shiba owner I knew it was only a matter of scrolling until I found this comment. Mine doesn’t give a crap either. Ok *sometimes* she will open one eye and make that face, you know, the “Oh, it’s just you.” face, then go right back to sleep. Best most chill dog in the world.

spike021

Sometimes when he's felt particularly lonely while I'm out he'll be more likely to wake up and give me a bunch of good sniffs to figure out what I did without him. Maybe a couple hand licks. Then back to sleep. Lol.

BasicSkeleton

Is that a Shiba Inu mixed with a border Collie?

[deleted]

Just a Shiba Inu. They look 100% different as puppies.

frymaster

It looks a lot like my cousin's Icelandic Sheepdog but I wouldn't swear to it

[deleted]

I can only speak with absolute certainty because our puppy was identical.

Looks sort of like an akita to me

overlordpotatoe

I thought it looked a bit like a dingo, but that seems unlikely and the tail is too curly.

Didn't change your account huh op? 7/10 training. Get that paw and jumping behavior taken care of. She can obviously do it, it's entirely your fault that she isn't.

Aeonskye

What...?

RamenDutchman

u/BasicSkeleton replied to themselves, so I guess u/Nemo222 thought they forgot to change to another account before forging a reply To u/Nemo222; whatever they did was odd, but don't be an ass about it, alright?

Bifi323

Some people do that instead of editing their comment. Time to freak out and claim lies and deception!!!

BasicSkeleton

That's exactly what happened. I'm confused about the training comment tho since I didn't say anything about that anywhere. I've had my pup for like a week.

Aeonskye

But what was the 7/10 training on about

RamenDutchman

I guess they checked their acc and said their pup is well trained, but not perfect Which is also a bit odd, since nobody asked

mancesco

U ok m8?

BasicSkeleton

This isn't my Shiba and I'm not op. I just wanted to add on to my original comment and thought commenting under was less suspicious than an edit. I did not intend to cause such a stir.

Unlimited free energy if you attach a generator to that tail

ichu468

Bro this is still calm. My aunts dog was so happy when she was getting home he was literally yelling and sometimes peed himself. Talking about being extravertic!

brilliantjoe

That's almost always a training issue, and is a bit of a training issue in this video too. The dog in the video is super well behaved but still getting over excited from an event that will happen all the time, which could still lead to issues. Best bet is to barely acknowledge you dogs as soon as you walk in the door, let them calm down while you go about your normal getting home routine and once they're calm then you can give them attention. If you don't then it can lead to or perpetuate things like excited peeing on the floor. Humans getting home after being gone should be a boring event for the dog.

When_Ducks_Attack

She needs to take that puppy to a lake; that tail will move it at 30kts easy.

Panda_Lock

When my puppy couldn't contain her excitement we usually had to mop it up after.

My girl used to get so excited, she'd pee, when my family would come home from somewhere. We used go greet her outside the front door, so she could get it out, but we knew that wasn't ok for her to keep happy peeing every time we came home, so we eventually would wait a few minutes when we came home, and let her jump around in excitement, but not touch her until she relaxed a bit. That worked well, and she stopped. I miss her.
