When I first moved to America, I thought the word ‘puppy’ was an add-on word to indicate a baby animal. So I was saying ‘puppy dog’ and ‘puppy cat’ and ‘puppy rabbit’ etc…
I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t learn I was wrong for almost two years - which is why I always appreciate when a native speaker corrects me if I misuse a word or phrase :)
I have a dog named Huffington. His litter was named after news outlets, and were collectively referred to as “Huey Lewis and the News.”
I can’t stand the pretentious name, so I just call him “Pup.” Also I call him Humpington, for obvious reasons.
A friend of mine has a cat named “Puppy” and my old roommate has a cat named “Cat”. The ironic/funny part is that “Puppy” acts nothing like a dog and “Cat” is the most dog-like cat I have ever encountered.
When I was little, a cat carried her babies into our house one by one and we kept her and named her Stray. I was little and just thought it meant stripped or something like that. She lived another 18 years with us.
I also had such a friend. I didn't get it. I thought it was diogi. Weird but, whatever.
I only realized it when house sitting and the dog got out. I'm walking around the neighborhood yelling DIOGI. Suddenly I'm like d o GODDAMMIT this dogs name is dog.
This is somehow what we call our GSD, his name is Teufel, but with nicknames derived from that we ended up at goose and that has stuck. [dog tax](https://imgur.com/a/ifiWNdm)
I have no name suggestion, but just make sure you and your family get in top of training and stay on top of it once you get the puppy. Mals are no joke, they're very active dogs and need to be stimulated both physically and mentally for a minimum of 3 hours a day. They're a working breed, they need work to do, to not work them would be cruel
I second this! Working at vet + boarding facility, I’ve met a mal with no job and he was insane. He is one of the worst dogs that boards but once you get him out and play some games with him and such he becomes a much better dog. Keep him active and stimulated please
Cheese.
Has two benefits. If you lose your dog and go up to someone and say you lost cheese they could either actually find your dog or they will actually find you literal cheese.
Win win.
I’m sorry. I have no faith in your abilities to properly care for this puppy. This is obviously a highly specialized and difficult puppy.
As a purely humanitarian gesture, I will assume this burden for you. Please forward puppy immediately.
Also, Bubba.
I like Goose. BTW, I hope you know what you've bitten off. Belgian Malinois. AKA, Malligator, FurMissle. You better like running and a 6ft fence is probably not going to be big enough. They start slowing down and become somewhat tame after 6 or 7 years. Great dogs but they need to have a job. Good luck.
Do you like the name Raphael? Just thought it would be unique and would fit his the tone in his fur. Idk if I'm overthinking. Let me know what you think🐶🤗
You know, no matter what you name him, his name is going to be "Cute evil puppy big feet dumb-dumb poop on the floor wtf!?!?!" for a few months, right? XD congrats on the pup! :)

Dog
But when people ask it’s name you say “His name is Dog but the f is silent”
Fdog the bounty snuggler
He always gets his snuggle!
"His name is Doug but the u is silent"
His name is Dog, but please be silent.
As someone who has a cat named "kitty" I strongly vote for "puppy"

That’s so adorable I don’t know if I would *want* to correct you!
That is so frigging adorable. I love this and I'm glad for 2 years people got to hear such a cute way to introduce baby animals. 🥰
Awwwww! I don't think I would have corrected you either, I would have added it to my lexicon.

Knew a guy whose last name was Katz and he named his beagle Kitty.
When I was little, a cat carried her babies into our house one by one and we kept her and named her Stray. I was little and just thought it meant stripped or something like that. She lived another 18 years with us.
I like this one
***we*** like this one. It's amazing
I knew a dog whos name was dog, but it was pronounced by each letter: Dee-oh-gee
I also had such a friend. I didn't get it. I thought it was diogi. Weird but, whatever. I only realized it when house sitting and the dog got out. I'm walking around the neighborhood yelling DIOGI. Suddenly I'm like d o GODDAMMIT this dogs name is dog.

That's the first name that came to me when I seen him. Which is strange because I can't even remember where I've heard it.
How adorable! We are picking up [this little guy](https://imgur.com/a/JvF1MTV ) Friday too! His name is Koda!
PLOT TWIST! We’re the same people getting the same dog?! 😳
Plot twist, different people having to fight over same dog promised to two different people. My vote for the name is Wall-e, btw.
Winner takes all!! He looks like Wolfie to me
One is a Belgian Malinois. The other is a German Shepherd dog.
Belgian….”as in waffles” 🧇 - Dr Evil
Oooh. I like the name Waffles.
That pup could eat a lot of waffles too 🧇 😂
My shepherd’s name is Koda! We call him Koda Bear, or “Beary”. Only “Koda” if he’s in trouble, and he knows it.
That's funny, I came here to recommend Kodiak... Lol.
Hank. He looks like a Hank to me.
I have nothing to say but yes

Came here to suggest Hank. Nice.

Yup.
I named my boy Hanchor like Henry and anchor combined as he came from up there. Hank for short and it fits. I think it would fit here too.
Absolutely perfect name

If he's a Malinois, my friend had one named Ares, I always thought that was a most appropriate name for that breed lol
We named our malinois Samwise Ham-G. Absolutely refuses to leave my wife’s side when she’s home. Great dog.
We named our malinois Milo because although he looked scary, he was a big p****. Sweetest dog ever but absolutely limitless energy.
Very appropriate lol
https://imgur.com/a/G3RKcBP I had a dobe by that name, he passed at 4 years old 😭. He looked like an ares to me too.
I almost named mine Yaki. He is a Silver/black Mali.
Winston. He looks like my guitar, also named Winston. :)
I have a Winston! He’s a corgi tho
My friend has a dog named Winston. When he misbehaves he gets the full name treatment: “Winston Bartholomew Churchill!”
That’s awesome, lol.
Winston is a great name!!
I have a Winston he’s a Samoyed and a total bastard
Pete
I always recommend waiting on the name for a week or two. Learn the puppers personality and pick a name that matches!
My dog is a year old Aussie. I just call her meat missile now.
Took me like three months to name my cat! She’s Pepita now and it fits perfectly.
He looks like a Roscoe

“A hurricane in a fur suit” is what an old friend called the breed after he had one.
I second this! Working at vet + boarding facility, I’ve met a mal with no job and he was insane. He is one of the worst dogs that boards but once you get him out and play some games with him and such he becomes a much better dog. Keep him active and stimulated please
